  1. Here is an article from the Athletic discussing the Tigers potential trade candidates. For Soto they list the Dodgers as the most likely trade partner because they can offer top 50ish prospects Busch, Pages or Vargas. And Detroit would likely not settle for something less than that. They aren't sure if the Dodgers would do that for those without subscriptions but that is what Detroit would ask for hypothetically. They suggest Fulmer as more likely to be traded for a lesser return. https://theathletic.com/3388230/2022/06/29/tigers-trade-deadline/
  2. Does this mean you don't think he would bring back that good of a prospect? Ronny Mauricio? Mathew Liberatore? Someone like that.
  3. I think Soto could land a top 50 prospect, maybe more. Fulmer would bring back more of a lottery ticket, and between Avila picking that prospect and our player development people it is unlikely to pay off. Having said that Lange was a lottery ticket at one time, and Fulmer will be a free agent so what do you have to lose.
  4. Fangraphs compared him to Micky Tettleton, due to the way he holds the bat almost parallel to the ground in his setup.
  5. It's not a win overall, but at this point if the contract was voided at this point it would be the best outcome for the Tigers. Sooner or later I would think they will be able to legally void the deal if he has decided to not show up. Unless there is an underlying reason he can prove that is preventing him from honoring his contract. Didn't Uwe Krupps situation go on for years while he was "injured"? The Tigers need to move on building a team and they could argue not knowing what Eduardo intends to do is preventing them knowing how much debt they have.
  6. Of all of my issues with the Tigers front office, how they have drafted in the first round the past 10 years or so is pretty low. Now that they seem to have realized that drafting relievers in the first round is a bad idea. Even Jobe over Meyer talent wise was fairly close, it was the risk involved that most that don't like the pick question. They seem to target the best player available, and aren't afraid to pay full slot values or more to get the guy they want. Now that they want badly to win I hope they don't start targeting guys closer to the majors over guys with higher ceilings but further away.
  7. If the Tigers were fighting for a playoff spot this would be a bigger issue. But since it looks like this rebuild may have a few more years if they can get out from this deal it may be for the best.
  8. I do and it sucks. Have to force stop the app every time and then it loads super slow.
  9. ESPN's Turron Davenport projects rookie Malik Willis to open the season as the Titans' No. 3 quarterback. This speaks volumes to how bad Willis looked at OTAs. Willis was never close to pushing Ryan Tannehill for a starting role and is behind Logan Woodside, a practice squad quarterback that was promoted to Tannehill's backup last year. The Titans are taking a long-term approach to developing Willis, making it unlikely he sees the field before 2023. Well here is why we didn't draft Willis.
  10. The first international guy that received a million was Danrys Vazqez in 2010. Wilken Ramirez got close to that as well a few years earlier. Both were busts. Most years they spread the money around like you said though. AA entered pro baseball with the Marlins overseeing the international operations with the Marlins. His dad was a long time scout with the Dodgers. AA was there when Florida signed Miggy. The fact that they have been so bad on international signings with has background underscores his ineptitude.
  11. SSS but it looks to be pretty clear that that there is an uptick in progress from the hitters this year. Most of the prospects with the highest ceilings are a year or more away but it is still nice to see. Looking at the MILB top 100 prospects it looks like about a third are from latin american signings, it will be nice when the Tigers get on on there.
  12. I was skeptical that having a bunch of guys who have been in baseball for 30 plus years leading us into a rebuild and twenty first century baseball was not a good idea to begin with. I thought we needed some younger minds more open to the new technologies, sabermetrics and training methods that frankly the Tigers have fallen well behind the most of the league at. Drafting and development have been awful for decades so it didn't inspire confidence that they were the front office to turn things around. Also while I don't have numbers i believe the Tigers scouting staff is much smaller than the rest league and that is a large part of the problem as well. That probably goes back to Monahan. When Hinch was hired i thought that he would at least bring a fresh modern perspective, but not many results so far. To be fair it does take time for what new methods they may have introduced to bare fruit. They do have more interesting positional prospects than in years past so maybe we will start seeing some successes.
  13. The Tigers HAD to have one of those shortstops and were not willing to wait the market out and get the best deal, opening up the possibility that none of them signed with Detroit. Correa didn't accept the the deal they offered, which he probably should have since no one else offered more, and wound up having to accept a lesser deal. The failure on the Tigers approach was they were basically in desperation mode and were afraid to wait the market out. You can blame that on ownership for demanding a big name signing, AA for putting a crap team on the field for 5 years and being forced into having to sign someone, or the development staff for not developing enough young talent.
  14. If they lose faith in Goff and really like one of the QB's next year I think they will do what it takes to get one. The best case of course would be that Goff is a top ten QB next season and they don't have to trade for one. If that happens they are a borderline playoff team right away. The offense is loaded if they stay healthy. There is a ton of talent on defense, just most of it is unproven or coming off injuries. The dline has 2 third rounders, 2 seconds, and a first from the last couple drafts. Plus Harris and Romeo. They will be a lot better this year. AO was a good corner and Jacobs was solid as well. We'll see what Okudah has left and what they have in Melanfonwu. They need a number one corner but they should have a bunch of decent depth guys. LB and safety need work but Barnes and Joseph have talent and may develop this year into starters. If they don't have to trade a bunch of draft picks for a QB and some of the young talent they have develops they will have the picks and cap space to add the pieces to have an above average defense as well. Barring some bad luck, or QB issues, they should be a playoff team for sure in 2024.
  15. Agreed. If they feel they can win with Goff, or they feel that none of the QB's coming out next year are enough of an improvement over Goff to warrant giving up the kind of draft capitol it will take, they can stand pat and wait another year. We'll find out after this year. Goff will definitely have the pieces around him to succeed. If Goff does play well does it make sense to trade for Stroud or someone else if they don't grade out as elite?
  16. If Holmes is sold on one of those QB's they will pay what it takes. If it takes 3 number ones they will do that. It isn't a slam dunk that those guys are are in the Trevor Lawrence area anyway. Stroud had the best group receivers in history probably and rarely had pressure, hard to get a good read on him. Bryce Young is 5'11 195 lbs, that will turn some teams off. So if the Lions are drafting in 10-15 area i would think 2 first rounders plus another pick, maybe a 2nd or 3rd would get it done.
  17. If the Tigers 6 years into this rebuild have to move young major leaguers to restock the farm system, it shouldn't be Avila doing the trading. I seriously doubt Avila would even consider doing it anyways. Possibly they would move guys with expiring contracts,.
  18. Wenceel has been in West Michigan for a while and he is definitely bigger than he was a few years ago. Before this year he was rail thin and didn't have the strength to drive the ball. This year with the added muscle he is a much different hitter. He looks to be just as quick as well. We have seen guys develop power after seemingly stagnating in the minors before. I think he is legit now and will be bumped up to AA ball soon.
  19. This is true. It makes the last 60 years of Lionsdom even more hard to explain. Especially the last 40 since they weren't really trying during the Russ Thomas era.
  20. What i am concerned about is aside from Greene and Tork, whom have achieved nothing to date, how many long term pieces do we have? Baez and Meadows should be two more. The rest you have to question. And there aren't any prospects in minors that look like they can be productive regulars in the next year or two either. If Candelario doesn't work out it shouldn't be a big deal. But it will be if we also need a second baseman, right fielder, catcher and a DH. It will be tough to fill all of those positions for next year and compete.
  21. Unless Goff really surprises this year they will be looking for a QB next year. Either in the draft or a trade for a veteran. If they don't find a deal they like they can wait another year.
  22. I wasn't making the prediction that the Lions were going to win 10 games and go to the playoff's. It is reasonably possible if a few players step up, which is a lot different than the feeling going into the last couple of years. By my count they play 6 games against teams with winning records from last year. So if the young guys on the d-line step up, and the corners are ok i could see them surprising.
  23. The only teams they are definitely worse than is Buffalo, Dallas and Green Bay. If they are healthy and aren't overly unlucky in close games they could win 9-10 games. They have a lot of talented young guys who may or may not be legit that could step up this year. I expect Goff to be functional and when they have all the pieces in place on offense it could be around a top 10 unit, even with Goff. The defense will be better just by virtue getting a bunch of guys back healthy. Add in the guys they got in the draft and they will be much better. They still have huge holes at linebacker, a young DL, and need a #1 corner so they will still be below average. Maybe it's too much kool-aid but they could make the playoffs if they hit on some of these top draft picks from the last couple of drafts.
  24. Now Jerry Juedy is in jail. Ruggs is prison and Ridley is suspended for a year. Maybe we should have avoided Bama WR's.
