  1. This was the exact reason Ilitch dumped DD. Loyalty means everything to Ilitch and DD was disloyal just "talking" about the Red Sox (He said about two weeks prior to his release that he would "love" to work for an organization like the Red Sox, what a wonderful Org they were...). THAT is the reason he was released.
  2. This is where I think you are missing something... The FO is perfectly in their rights to send him home and tell him he's not playing for the Tigers in 2023. They pay him $40 Mill regardless of whether he plays or not. But you're making the assumption that Miggy can FORCE the team to put him on the opening 26? Can FORCE the team to play him? That's just not true.
  3. That hasn't been determined yet. Until he's on the 26 next April 1st, it's all just... talk. By all sides.
  4. Oh I was on the bandwagon to part ways with him last year. I'm ready to move on and try out new guys like Isaac Paredes (whoops, too late!), Kerry Carpenter, Austin Meadows, and/ or whoever else we can drop into that spot just to see if anything sticks. Starting last year... I was going to say "what's the point of stringing out Miggy's time in MLB, he's done for..." But like I said, I was ready last year and was outvoted so that he could hit his milestones. And I'm glad I switched trains and jumped on board with the milestones... And I probably was ready also, like you say, right after he got his 3,000 to move on... but I can wait for the offseason. But it is time to move on. Before he embarrasses himself. It was pretty hysterical though to read that "there's NO POSSIBLE REASON WHATSOEVER that he will retire before the 2023 season..." because, like I said... I can think of a few.
  5. This is why I stil have belief in Avila... You can disagree with me on each and every single name on this list (I'm projecting what our 2025 Lineup could be, plus 40-man guys, AAA guys not on the 40... and probably a few too many bench guys but that can be whittled down... probably quite easily as I see at least a few names I'd like to show the door...) just to take a look at some expectations/ available/ and push back where there are more names available than spots... Also, the bullpen is fungible so you can swap any or all names there too... 2025 Tigers (projection): Projecting Detroit Tigers, 2025: Position Starter Backup 40-Man or AAA Catcher Dillon Dingler Jake Rogers Josh Crouch 1B Spencer Torkelson Harold Castro Peyton Graham 2B Javy Baez Kody Clemens Jace Jung SS Wenceel Perez Gage Workman Christian Santana Manuel Sequera Trei Cruz 3B Colten Keith Adinso Reyes Izaac Pacheco OF LF - Akil Baddoo Daz Cameron Jose De La Cruz CF - Riley Greene Bryant Packard RF - Parker Meadows Willi Castro Roberto Campos DH Kerry Carpenter Eric Haase Andre Lipcius Andrew Navigato Rotation Matt Manning Reese Olson Tarik Skubal Joey Wentz Eduardo Rodriguez Beau Brieske Casey Mize Jackson Jobe Wilmer Flores Ty Madden Bullpen Joe Jimenez Dylan Smith Greg Soto Aaron Haase Alex Lange Juan Polanco Jason Foley Ignacio Briceno Ty Alexander Darwyn Zambrano Alex Faedo Rony Garcia Brant Hurter Donal Montas
  6. I was ready to move on last year too but... the clamor for him to reach his milestones won me over. I'm glad he got his 500 last year and his 3,000th hit this year... But at this point he's no longer even a replacement DH. Have some dignity and retire Miggy... after this season would be perfect timing. We'll cut you a check for $40 mill for your retirement planning...
  7. I think Candelario is in the "Coming Back" section. He is... until he isn't. And right now... he is.
  8. Maybe it's just me but... I don't think this is going to age well... IIRC: Jim Cowan was also on the bandwagon of there is absolutely no reason that Miggy won't play next year. I can think of a few...
  9. Speaking of which... I know this is from the game thread... but... Springs has a killer changeup...
  10. Castro too. I don't see enough Tigers games to know differences between Haase & Harold (in "gritty" factors...); I just have seen enough of Baddoo that I think he kicks ass when he's on. Hasn't been on this year though... so the door is open... and I guess Haase was the one who walked through that door...
  11. I've been on this bandwagon all season. As soon as he got number 3,000... it was time to discuss. After this season... it will be time to DO.
  12. Baddoo could absolutely win that... But a .408 OPS on 84 AB's is too discouraging to have that chance... Maybe next year...
  13. I don't think they need to change his stance based on how he holds his bat. On the other hand, if he had a disastrously high and long-held leg kick... sure... but just holding the bat? Nah...
  14. Yes... and to your point... Why aren't we seeing heavy (HEAVY!) Changeup usage lately? Wasn't that Fernando Rodney's ticket? A great fastball, but an even better changeup? Mix in a few curves and sliders but dominate with the changeup and that would be a lot less stress on the arm... methinks.
  15. I don't think I have a problem with Avila making draft selections. It's everywhere else that he seems to be... just... a little... too... weak.
  16. Same answer to Alex Jones.
  17. I love how people straight up MISREPRESENT the facts (I consider that a form of LYING) to bolster their position. Wanna try being honest in your next post?
  18. I think they're going to be forced to play Stew and Bagley at PF and Hami at SF...
  19. I'm feeling very mixed on the job Al is doing lately... And it's not based on this season's record... I get that the team is not guaranteed to take a step forward every single year... and with a boatload of very, very young pitchers, maybe we should have expected the same amount of injuries we've had this year when we went from a 10% pandemic year to a 100% full-blown schedule... with all these young arms. Or maybe we are demanding too much spin rates (arm/ UCL torque) from these arms. I also support the changes that Al has made to our system in the draft and development side. And actually think our system has a lot more in the pipeline than what their "rankings" say... But on the flip side... it just seems like we should have "more": more International development/ investment/ productive players. More/ higher level of trade returns/ pro-active trading. Higher standards for players on the field. I'm generally optimistic (just in case that wasn't known), and I still see lots of positives in our future... So I don't want to implode over this season. It's a step back. Which sucks. But we were NOT guaranteed only steps forward. And given multiple "meh" players that we were fielding, the overabundance of young pitchers and young pitcher arm troubles... maybe we could have foreseen this step backwards. But I do want more. And if that means kicking Al upstairs (the most likely scenario) and bringing in a young hot shot GM from Tampa or wherever, who can seriously move this team forward and back into contention, I am all for that. I believe I was fine/ for that earlier this year... but may not have been vocal about it. Summary: I still think this team is headed in the right direction, despite this year's backwards step, it might take a couple of years, I see lots of talent in the minors, even if no one else does... but is there anyway of moving this team faster into the modern age? And if that means kicking Al up and bringing in a hot shot... I am all for it.
  20. One step backwards and the Sky is Falling. I guess NO backward steps can EVER be allowed for the Detroit Tigers. Only linear steps forwards and upwards to World Series Championships because... that's how the world works, right? Every. Single. Time. Yeah...
  21. PS: I've been down on Parker Meadows for a couple years now... But since June 3rd, in 41 games in Erie, 180 PA's: .311 BA, .911 OPS, with 7 HR's and 3-1 SB's to CS's. I guess that's what I mean that he's making a power move to get to the next level. If he regains his prospect status to what it was thought he could do at the time of the draft... he could turn out to be big time player in our OF in the near future... I had basically written him off.
