Major Pet Peeve. The No-Reason Traffic Jam and I-94 is the epicenter. You will slow to a crawl wondering where the accident is and there is no accident and there's no extra traffic merging. SO WHY AM I GOING 7 MPH ON A FREEWAY! Also, those who won't even get up to the speed limit in the left lane and just keep puttering along while everyone is passing them on the right. Ticket them and take their license away until they understand the flow of all the lanes. And don't get me started on people who do not react to a green light until someone honks at them. I usually assume it's someone on their phone but sometimes it's someone just staring into space. Self-driving cars can't be worse. Flying cars are possible. They could be made, but as long as we keep driving like this on the ground, they're never gonna let us take to the air and based on the dwindling attention span of the population, that'll be never.

Shortstop is a continuing black hole In September. Javie OPS is .353, Trey Sweeney is .118. At this point, why not give Trei Cruz a look? He could not be worse than Sweeney.

They have to to win 2 out of 3 vs. the Braves this weekend and pray (and I am atheist) that Cleveland cools down. This is awful.

You get great pitching from Mize, Flaherty and Skubal and get swept. How pathetic.

I think they just lost the division (and playoffs) today. And, I don't know about what next year looks like after this. Sometimes teams don't recover from epic collapses. The absolute arrogance and stupidity of doing next to nothing at the trade deadline. Like you're so good you don't need to go for it now. After the All Star Break when they were brutal I made a post that was sort of a joke where I wrote "this is going to be really painful" This is very very painful. Sitting still (at the deadline) didn't send a good message and you heard that from the Red Wings last year. The team captain, Dylan Larkin, talked about how let down the team was when they did nothing at the deadline. I think it's kind of the same story here. If this does happen, doesn't someone need to go? I don't know who, but someone?

Yes. People saying the Tigers got fleeced did not understand the situation. If Smoltz has stayed with the Detroit organization they would have probably brought up up too early - to pitch for a team that was in decline. 1987 they made the playoffs by 1 game, on the last day, they needed every bit of that Doyle trade. It was their last real hurrah. The Tigers fell short in the AL East by a game in 1988 - and then in 1989 it all crashed and burned. That's the team that Smoltz would have been coming to and they would have ruined him. Smoltz was put in a perfect situation for a young pitcher. (Edit:Update) I just looked at the stats for the 1988 team and it's a miracle they won 88 games. Must have been one hell of a job by Sparky Anderson. Talk about a close race.

The one I remember living through, that benefitted us, obviously, was the 1987 Blue Jays. They pretty much had to lose all 7 of their last games for us to have a chance - and then they did. Great slide, Bill Madlock ! I remember that last weekend vs. the Blue Jays. Tigers had to sweep. Friday night Scott Lusader hit a HR and made an incredible diving catch Saturday Jim Walewander scored the game winning run from 2nd on a base hit in extras Sunday - Larry Herndon's solo HR was the only run of the game The Tigers and Blue Jays played 7 times in the last two weekends. Jays won the first 3 in Toronto, Tigers won the last game in TO and then swept them at home. All were 1-run games. That was incredible. It's Division-Or-Bust this time. Tigers can't get swept here. They just can't.

I watch Ordinary People every couple of years - it's such a great movie. How Donald Sutherland never got an Oscar Nomination for that movie is baffling. He's brilliant in it. Everyone was.
