Detroit Lions Offseason Thread 2023
Motor City Sonics replied to Mr.TaterSalad's topic in Detroit Lions
Typically momentum doesn't carry over year-to-year, but confidence does and this team is confident. They've got swagger, they've got balls, and they BELIEVE in themselves and that will mean a lot. For the offseason - Hope Ben Johnson doesn't take a Head Coaching job. Arizona just feels like a fit for him. If he leaves, go get Frank Reich. - Sign Jamaal. He's more important than Swfit right now. He's the 1A. He's also kind of the heart of the team in a lot of ways. - There will be a ton of QB movement again this year (I'll post my predictions later). There will likely be some pretty decent guys available that could be a backup here with potential to be a starter. Draft. I would like the idea of trading down from 6 if THE guy is not there. I doubt that happens, because we ALWAYS want that to happen and it never does. I think it's far more likely that they maneuver up from 17 than down from 6. Draft (Top 5 Picks for Lions) 2 CBs (or 1 CB and 1 Safety) 1 RB 1 Interior D Lineman 1 LInebacker Free Agency. Sign another TE Sign a really good LB. Upgrade at Backup QB. Get more depth a CB Position Groups Quarterbacks - Goff is fine. He struggles outside, but perfect guys are hard to come by. Absolutely need to really upgrade backup. Seems like they just never had a plan here. At some point Goff will get hurt Running Backs - Resign Jamaal. He means a lot to the team. 2 years. Pay him. Need to draft one in the Top 4 rounds, Swift isn't sturdy enough. Wide Receivers - Had a great season. Re-sign Chark, if you can. We add a gamebreaker next year anyway Tight Ends - They got a lot out of this group, but they probably could use an upgrade. It doesn't have to be a high pick Offensive Line - The best in the NFL? Can make that argument. Didn't need Vaitai this year (he was great as a guard in 2021). Defensive Line - I don't think Levi will ever be a factor. With that pick at #6. Bears & Cardinals need O-Lineman. Texans and Colts need QBs. Seattle could do just about anything. There will be a very very good D-Lineman available in the draft and that will absolutely solidify the group. Linebackers - Looks better at the end than it did at the beginning but still needs a couple of players to round it out. One in the draft and go get a big free agent difference maker. Go get Roquan Smith. Secondary - This is the weakest part of the team. With so much draft capital they should be able to add 2 rookies. Okudah was up and down, but much better than he looked with the Rocket Scientist. They need Walker to come back healthy and strong, and still draft a safety. I could see a lot of changes in this group. Special Teams - Badgley is a good kicker, they could do worse, but going after Jake Moody with the last draft pick (if he's there) might be a shrewd move. I know kickers don't get drafted anymore but he is one of the best college kickers of all time and he hit a lot of clutch ones too. Punter is locked up (and also a third string QB?) -
They celebrated like they made the playoffs and that's awesome. They were not deflated after Seattle's win. That's the part that should have us excited for next year. They made Rodgers eat his words. They aren't SOL at all. Too many chances for that to come up and it didn't. The horrible loss in Carolina? All teams have a couple games like that every year. The Lions are the only team in the NFC North to finish the regular season with a positive point differential. They actually finished 4th over all in the NFC in that stat, ahead of playoff teams the Giants, VIkings, Buccs, and Seahawks.

Another black coach fired after only 1 year - coaching a team everyone knew had the worst roster. There is a real problem here, man. Steve Wilks made the Panthers competitive after they gave up and traded their best player and he'll likely get the ax. Not cool .
