  1. Seattle beat the Jets last year so they are better than the Jets this year.
  2. It was more than a half. It was 10 games. I mean, why isn't Seattle being asked to prove the first half wasn't a fluke and Geno Smith isn't a fluke? The Lions were close to beating the Eagles, Dolphins, Vikings and Seattle early in the season. Those close games early in the season started becoming wins by the end of the season. The Lions were the 2nd youngest team in the NFL at the start of the season. The team grew as the season went on.
  3. BTW, Geno Smith didn't put up 48. He had two touchdowns. Goff had four but he had a costly pick six. Without that pick six, Detroit wins. Goff has since gone on one of the longest streaks in history without an INT.
  4. I'm curious to see how the Packers do. I like that Holmes didn't just go defense and continued to build on an already good offense and still address the defense. The Packers haven't spent a 1st round pick on offense since 2011. It will be interesting to see if the same phenomena happens with Green Bay that happened with New England. Was it Rodgers carrying that team and their neglect of the offense finally shows, or have they really been building a good supporting cast?
  5. If you aren't taking a player because of positional value, then who do you take? I think the argument could be made for Gonzalez. Of the players taken after Gibbs, that's the only one. You could also make the argument they stay at 6 and take one of Carter, Wilson or even Robinson but you also have to factor in they picked up LaPorta in the trade.
  6. Rodgers bitches that the Packers didn't do enough to help him and out and he kept forcing them to sign Cobb. Just let the poor guy retire already.
  7. Not that I'm thinking about Seattle, Hendon Hooker reminds me a lot of Geno Smith. The good Geno Smith at least. The good thing about the Geno Smith comparison is that Smith finally figured it out at 32 so Hooker isn't too old yet.
  8. Remember, Aaron Rodgers denied he was making the Jets sign his former receivers.
  9. And Jared Goff put up 45 on Seattle. Seattle finished the season 3-5 with two of those wins coming against the Rams. These are power rankings for next year. I think the Lions did more to secure their areas of weakness, Seattle was regressing, and I simply trust Goff more to repeat his performance than Smith.
  10. I bet that Seattle game goes differently if they played each other the 2nd half of the season. The Lions over a 10 game stretch were one of the best teams in the league.
  11. Seattle had the same record as the Lions, faded down the stretch, and Geno Smith is much more of a question mark than Goff.
  12. He would be pissed because if Goff signs an extension, he's relegated to being a career backup and never getting a shot at being a franchise QB. He won't become a free agent until age 29. It's not about Goff's contract but the fact his opportunity to start basically goes away.
  13. Of course, Goff isn't a douche but he's going to want to get paid. If he goes out and repeats the year he had, the Lions will need to either pay him or move him.
  14. That's fine. The trade request would be if the Lions don't give Goff an extension. If the Lions have the season they are expected to have, Goff has the potential to do something no Lions QB, including Stafford, has done in over 30 years. I would call the Lions bluff and say if you think you can do this with Hooker, then do it and move me somewhere else. This would be Goff wanting to stay in Detroit but the Lions not committing to Goff. The scenario wouldn't be the same, but you acquiesced to Stafford but not Goff? Again, this would be Goff wanting to stay.
  15. They don't have to. They didn't have to with Stafford but acquiesced and took a large dead cap hit. Maybe Goff can go to Cabo in the offseason and go team shopping?
  16. Request a trade like Stafford.
  17. No way Goff should go into a third prove it year. Goff would have all the leverage if the Lions make a playoff run.
  18. I just don't see Goff playing 2024 with the Lions without an extension. I don't think he is just going to play the final two years and they depart and go their separate ways.
  19. Goff is also much better than Flynn. I also believe the original idea of taking Hurts was as a Taysom Hill type. Wentz also had an injury history that Goff doesn't have and has been a headcase. A lot of people considered Hooker to be a 1st round talent but age and injury dropped him. I'm not sure people were high on Russell Wilson coming out or Hurts for that matter.
  20. If they extend Goff, I would be pissed if I was Hooker. Guy is 25 he's not getting any younger. By the time his Lions contract is over, he will be 29.
  21. Like I said, he will demand an extension or a trade meaning if the Lions aren't willing to extend him than trade him. He shouldn't have to go through a 3rd prove it year.
  22. Hendon Hooker is not leverage. If Goff has another season like last year, he should demand a contract extension or a trade. He can tell the Lions if you feel comfortable that Hooker can take over and win the division than trade me. I have a feeling this is Goff's last year in Detroit. Either he regresses and they decide to go to Hooker, or he plays well and forces them to trade him.
