Campbell has a higher RAS than Curry who a sizeable number of people wanted to draft over Stafford.
-
The consensus is that Gibbs was the second best RB in the draft and Campbell the best LB. The issue appears to be the Lions drafted two positions higher than people feel they should have. It's not like they took Campbell over another LB who was rated higher.

I've read the Steelers are getting calls about the pick presumably to take Levis so it's not a forgone conclusion Porter is gone. I would still like to add to the offense and am thinking guard or receiver. I think they should keep all their 2nd round picks and start consolidating later in the draft.
-
It was probably more likely Jalen: "Give me a second. I need to change my bet. I had money on being taken 7th."

Uh oh

Campbell's RAS score was one of the best over the past 30 years. Tavai was a 4.3. Holmes has pretty much said they go by GPS and don't put a lot into 40 times.
-
I was reading the scouting report on Campbell on Walter Football and they were gushing about his pass defense. PFF had him as the highest rated pass coverage LB and yet I see people talking about him as if he is a plodder similar to Tavai.

Hopkins has a hard to move contract. They may have to take a player back. Someone will need to pick on the slack on the ground from missing Murray and Swift is a low cost option. It would be Swift plus a pick or two.
-
The Eagles are in a better position to take the risk on Carter. They don't have many holes and can afford to have a bust. The Lions are on the cusp and really need players who they can't miss on.
-
Murray was a big part of their running game. They will now have to rely on others to pick up that slack. It gives them a chance to audition Swift. At first I thought Swift's cap number was larger than it was so it seemed like a way to offset the cap hit of Hopkins but Swift has little guarantees.

The Rams drafted Gurley 10th and I don't think they have any regrets with that pick. We know Goff can take a team to a Super Bowl when he has a strong running game to fall back on and play action pass off of. Gibbs is a HR hitter so he's effective in the play action game, he also a great checkdown option which we know Goff can get a little eager to do at times. The Lions also have John Dorsey in the room who put together the foundation that beat Roseman's team.

Holmes and Campbell weren't going to draft a player who shows up to a pro day fat and out of shape.
-
Would Arizona have any interest in Swift as part of a package for Hopkins? This offense once Williams gets back with Hopkins, St Brown, Montgomery and Gibbs would be a matchup nightmare.
-
I just don't know there is room for three RBs. We could see Swift get the Kerryon treatment. The Lions signed Peterson and drafted Swift which relegated Kerryon to the third RB and basically got little use before leaving.
-
I would rein it in a little. Think Alvin Kamara. Upwards of 1,500 yards from scrimmage and 10+ combined TDs.
-
This also signals to me they are committed to Goff. Goff is at his best when he has a good run game to fall back on and can play action pass off of. Now you add someone like Gibbs as a safety valve and this offense is being built around Goff.
-
Dan Campbell comes from the Payton tree and I think people forget how well those high scoring Saints teams ran the ball. Between Kamara and Ingram, they averaged well over 300 carries a year and over 100 catches per year. That's over 400 touches by running backs and those Saints offenses were always top 5 in scoring. Gibbs and Montgomery are the new Kamara and Ingram. Brees didn't have elite arm strength and was similar to Goff in arm talent. You can see the Campbell imprint on this offense.

I've read they will likely move Anzalone to WILL and Rodriguez will rotate off the bench along with Barnes.
-
This doesn't come off to me as someone who has regrets and would choose a different player. I think he got the player he wanted.
-
I don't know, he seemed awfully excited to get Gibbs. He had a bigger reaction than when he got Sewell.
-
Once the QBs were off the board, that pick became less valuable as we've seen with the Levis slide. Still, 12 and 34 seemed fair for 6.

Who knows if this is true but I don't take Holmes to be a BS'er.
