I absolutely agree with you. My only concern is if the calculus required for change, gets morphed into a 'we need to do this for the greater good' rather than an honest assessment of what is going on the ground. Go back to Johnson's "What is Aleppo?" moment. Johnson, on MSNBC, gave a good response about the issues with these forever wars US foreign policy has gotten us into over the last 20 years. A network you would think would be sympathetic to his response. The "war machine" was so well greased that he gets hammered over being caught off guard with the question and being honest about it rather than any focus on his response or the US response. I just hope Kyiz doesn't look like Aleppo by the time the West believes Russia has experienced enough pain (this is all assuming the west has the upper hand right now and in the future).

Note, this is not a defense of Gabbard, but I still get her point on Syria and there is something in the back of my mind praying we don't fall into the same way of thinking here in Ukraine. Now looking at Ukraine and while things can change, I think it's becoming clear that the longer this goes on, the more dire the long-term consequences for Russia. As such, I'm sure there is someone within government making an argument that if we embolden Ukraine and turn this into a long term proxy war, the longer the better. That's assuming a view from the standpoint that a weakened Russia for the entire world is worth a destroyed Ukraine.

Russia certainly expected some sanctions and i'm confident they did have some agreements with China to help overcome hardships with those. I wholeheartedly don't believe Russia nor China expected the severity, nor the backlash from a united Western coalition. As such, i'm guessing Russia is asking for much more than China initially agreed to. As for Taiwan, i'm thinking Xi is livid with Putin over how much they got wrong over Ukraine. If Russia marches in, seizes control, and then just waits for the heat to die down on the geo-political stage, China absolutely would be using that to craft their ideas on how to take Taiwan. I'm not saying China has removed taking Taiwan off of the table, but i'm guessing they are rethinking everything they have planned in regards to that now.

I'm not saying anyone should be for lynching, i'm saying it was a waste of time to put that bill through. Just as it's a waste of time to put the GOP bill through. Just as Chuck's proposed law of outlawing orgies in Church. I was only questioning why the opposition on some of these and not others.
-
To play the pfife card, don't tell me how you think it may get interrupted, tell me what specific to that language from above erases gay people from existence? As for the law about lynching, I guess i'll go to Chuck's response to Archie. At least there are laws on the books that resulted in the murderers of Arbery to go to jail even if they didn't go to jail for lynching. Yet no one on this board has joined Chuck and is outraged that today, 2022, kids can have orgies in Church and there is nothing anyone can do to stop this. Even if we don't have any reports of this ever happening, it absolutely must be addressed.

I suspect that while not zero, both lynchings and teachers teaching sexual orientation/gender identify to kids under 8/9 years old is effectively zero. You want to use Auhmad Arbery as an example of a lynching, fine. The issues with getting them convicted, that was a real issue that should be addressed. But still, rare and illegal. So i'm not really arguing anything, just pointing out and questioning, why is this lynching law have bi-partisan support, when it solves absolutely nothing, and why is this Florida law being criticized, when your own side says the only part they don't like in the bill isn't happening anyway?

Jussie Smollet gets 150 days in county and informs everyone in the courtroom that he is not suicidal and to make sure they remember that in case he dies and they claim he did this to himself. He than puts up a black power fist as he's led out. The DA should bring him up on perjury charges although i'm guessing Chicago just wants to be done with this.
-
That was a very sad outcome for him. I guess now that Biden signs this law something can be done about what happened to him. Oh wait
-
On the flip side, are lynching's still an issue in the United States and if it happens, are there laws on the books to address it? The 'do your own research' issue aside, I'm sure it's happened. A quick google search gives me an estimate of 3.2 million teachers in the US so again, I'm sure there are some bad apples. That said, your own comment indicates that localities have addressed it by firing some. Likely reprimanding others. Even if you don't see the harm with the law itself, the conservative in you has to see the overreach for something that is at best an anomaly, at least at this point.

It's the poor folks fault though. If they would only buy a Tesla, they wouldn't need to worry about gas prices. (referencing Colbert)

Can someone get this info to Kamala?

Nah, we can hide that increase under 'transitory inflation' talking points for the next few years. 😉

I would like to believe that no one that frequents this site would find this sketch offensive.

Biden needs to have a speech from the Oval in primetime and get ahead of this. Make it clear on a stage that is seen by everyone that Putin is responsible for the surge in energy prices. At the same time, perfect opportunity for him to get his domestic agenda moving again, calling for commitments in Nuclear, renewables, as well as domestic oil/gas. Make a commitment to the left that no new drilling will be allowed, but any open permits will honored for let's say 5-10 years. Give the oil companies a set time to allow them to realize gains on any spending they put in place to help ensure next Winter isn't a sh*tshow. Nationally there is a lot of push for employee's to get back into the office. Not sure if it's the governments role here, but it would be nice to see companies maybe hold off on that to shrink the demand for gas.

I agree it's an overreach, but I don't necessarily understand how it marginalizes gay people. The law doesn't force a teacher not to acknowledge it though, it simply states they can't have pre-determined instruction about sexual orientation or gender identity. This would include heterosexual orientation as well. I personally don't understand the outrage in treating kids like kids and letting them learn about some issues when they are older and better able to understand it. My daughter (12) recently informed me that she is lgbtq as she believes she's pansexual. My first thought 'where is she getting this from' followed by a feeling that I must be doing something right because at 12 years old, 1) she's not oversexualized and 2) looking for the good in everyone. (This is based on her explanation to me of what a pansexual is) I'll be honest, maybe I just don't understand this. If she told me she was gay, I would have probably accepted that as truth as I do believe most gay people know they are gay very early on. But since she said pansexual, I doubt it. Not that I will love her less if she is, but I just have a feeling the next few years may change how she see's everything. It's a confusing age for kids and she's several years past the cut off for the Florida law. I'm not saying boys should be taught to play with trucks and stressed the importance of math while girls must play with dolls and focus on becoming nurses, i'm just saying teach kids they can do anything and let them figure out who they are sexually.
-
Life would be a lot duller without gay people.
-
So, am I missing something with this? Is the outrage that someone coined "Don't Say Gay" bill and therefore everyone must hate it, or is there a legitimate issue with the law? For Kindergarten through 3rd grade, schools may not have specific instruction related to sexual orientation. I'm guessing/hoping common sense provides that same refusal to have specific instruction on sexual orientation to kids up here in Michigan. The Libertarian in me wonders why even waste your time with this law as it's for posturing sake anyway, but i'm not sure I understand the outrage, unless that's just the reverse posturing from the other side.

Another thing that might be stupid as well, but note i'm just asking and i'm a peon, but, how much different is it to learn different drone's? That seems like that might be something that could assist Ukrainian's quicker on the battlefield, but i'm sure that would still take some time. Maybe with that though, you pull some Ukrainian drone tech's over into Poland for "training".

A saw a meme where it showed a picture of the Kyiz Convoy and a couple of A-10's with captions like "Oooh, that looks good" and "I'd so hit that." Kind of funny, but it's just a joke. With the full support of the rest of the US forces, yes, the A-10's would have a field day, but especially when you see the Russian issues with logistics, you'd think our leaders wouldn't say such definitive statements understanding that it's not always as simple as seeing tanks and assuming all we have to do is give Ukraine something that attacks tanks.

Last time it snowed hard, I put on a mask as I went out to shovel. Never would have done that before, but over time I got used to it and often found myself in the winter months wearing it as I left a business until I got into my car. I've been maskless for awhile, but my wife's doctor asked us to continue to wear them for now so i'm back at it.

I wonder what likelihood that the FSB really is helping Ukraine with these, or is this American Intelligence being used with the condition that Ukraine needs to say the FSB is helping. Seems to be that would put a lot of pressure on the FSB internally within Russia.

I'm fairly confident his words were for internal consumption so my thoughts are pretty much null and void. But I'm definitely not taking him at his word, but the last thing I heard about Putin was his call with Macron where he straight up indicated this is not a peacekeeping mission, but rather he was taking it at all costs. If within a day or two he's now telling international leaders that he feels there needs to be cooperation to return to normal, to me, that would be saying he's looking for a way out.
