  1. Lighten up Francis. I posed a hypothetical, and it’s not that outlandish. We have a dearth of 1B in the org, including the majors, three guys who project to be bat-first with no set position (Jung, Malloy, Keith) in an organization that likes to play guys completely outside of their natural position. If it’s so painful for you, please block me. We’ll both be happier.
  2. Wonder if the Tigers give some consideration to moving Jung and/or Keith to 1B? They are both roughly the same size as Torkelson, and Spencer is no sure thing. The knock against both guys has been their defense. Could they make the transition to 1B?
  3. 3 of our starting pitchers on the DL for significant periods, along with the entire outfield that broke spring training. Can’t make this stuff up.
  4. What’s troubling is that guys who had good seasons last year in the minors have regressed, especially the pitchers. I was hopeful that player development would improve. Hard to see that so far. Flores, Madden, Hurter, Crouch, Graham and Santana are a few examples. And the injuries keep piling up.
  5. Basically no Tigers want to go to the All Star game this year.
  6. That’s going on your tombstone
  7. Phillies offense hasn’t been that hot, either. Nice effort by Reese.
  8. Canadians used to be so nice. What happened?
  9. Huge fan of Toledo Mudhen Tyler Nevin. Detroit Tiger Tyler Nevin? Not so much.
  10. Baez can’t opt out given the season he’s having, but even still, I agree that there should be plenty of payroll flexibility. However, if the market is as hot as it’s been the last few offseasons, we will likely have to agree to some bad contracts to get players here.
  11. Wonder if they want him in their facilities, like going to Lakeland. It is odd, though. I suspect a neck injury might be imminent.
  12. Why this is so demoralizing is that we just lived through an incredibly painful rebuild and the reality is that it didn’t work and we have to embark upon another one, which likely means another 4-5 years where we won’t be in playoff contention. I’m too old for this ****.
  13. Did Dombrowski give him his retirement gift yet? I expect it to be more meaningful than a ****ing brick given their extensive history.
  14. I really want to like Maton, but he makes it so hard.
  15. This has to rival the A’s for ****tiest rotation and lineup right now.
  16. The silver lining is that we don’t have to pitch Foley or Lange.
  17. Roger Craig, former 1984 Champs pitching coach, passed away today at 93 years young. RIP, coach
  18. Bound to happen. Seems like we are riding Foley and Lange quite a bit because our offense doesn’t score enough runs to get a lead, or any cushion that doesn’t require them to pitch.
  19. Not sure I’d give Harris the benefit of the doubt. How have the Giants been the last two seasons?
  20. When you have a team of Punch and Judy hitters, you have to bunt that runner over. Hinch showed Maton, and then Short, undue respect.
  21. Yeah, I think his future is at 2B. Has to learn to hit more than fastballs, though. I still like that trade, though. Vierling has done some good things.
  22. I understand. I’m assuming he could be ready in a week or two. And I concede that Harris has his work cut out for himself. But he also put himself in this position to some degree with his offseason moves. There really haven’t been any real surprises, save for the ERod and Greene injuries, which I don’t want to trivialize. I think he was hoping on bounceback seasons or improved development from younger players. Baez and Schoop have been consistently bad year over year. Could not have expected much from Miggy. Had to expect some injuries along the way. It will be hard to improve externally at this point. He’d have to be willing to move Colt Keith, likely, which would be a mistake. When healthy, I’d bring up Carpenter, Lipcius and Kreidler in place of Ibanez, Nevin and Maton. I still like Maton, but think he would benefit from some time at Toledo. It’s just unfortunate that we don’t have better organizational depth to plug holes—the division is very winnable this year. Unfortunately, we’re not in much of a position to capitalize.
  23. I have no issue if they go Skenes. If you’re looking at our system, all of the pitching in the minors is questionable. If Drews and Langford are gone, he’s a viable option.
