  1. Maybe another reason to bring back one of Candy or Schoop as 1B insurance. Doesn’t make sense to acquire anyone to play there.
  2. Coolbaugh can fix that <ducks>
  3. I don’t think the roster spot is that big a deal—we have enough position versatility to offset. The real issue is needing to give him actual AB’s, which is a problem.
  4. I think it's less about how teammates would perceive a move like this. I think they want him to leave on his terms as a reward for all of his contributions and milestones. They likely don't want to risk any negativity/bad blood--they've come this far.
  5. Daz and Short are both on the 40-man.
  6. Curious if anyone is excited about this stretch and can find any positives from it?
  7. this foray certainly didn't help
  8. I'd bet Harris goes outside of the org to get another outfielder for next season.
  9. hate to be cynical, but he has stated this in the past. In addition to his debilitating health issues, he seems to more closely resemble a 40-and over men's softball player. The extra weight certainly isn't helping.
  10. I don't love this. I'm not a fan of tanking anymore, in general, but what value is there in leapfrogging teams at this point in the season? I think we've won 7 of 8 games, and I still feel lousy about this team. I'd prefer the better odds going into the draft lottery.
  11. agree--I see the depth chart as: Greene > Meadows > Baddoo > Carpenter > Castro > Reyes, with the last two not looking likely. I don't get hung up on the OF being all LH, as long as we have some balance though out the lineup, which we do with Tork, Haase, Baez, etc.
  12. I like your chart--gives a good overall perspective of the roster and potential moves. Personally, I disagree with giving 40-man spots to the following: Navigato, Joyce, Nieporte, Charlton, Bergner and probably, Hess too. I don't see any of them as potential big leaguers and/or risks to get selected in the Rule 5. I'd rather keep Elvin, Garcia and Funkhouser over any of these guys. DeJesus could go, and I'd be more inclined to keep Cameron over Reyes, and I would tender Harold Castro a contract. Can plug into a lot of positions, LH bat and probably would be our best pinch-hitter.
  13. yeah, I assume it's 40-man roster gamesmanship so they can add Diaz without having to drop someone else.
  14. we'll know very quickly after the season whether Miggy is in the plans for next year or not. They won't cut/waive him later. I fully suspect he will be part of the roster in 2023, unless his pride gets the best of him and he can work it our with the Tigers to get paid without playing. I do think he will want the imminently retiring star player treatment, though, as he makes his way across the league (rocking chair gifts, etc.). File this under a situation we can't control, so lamenting his involvement next season is probably futile. Hopefully Harris can mitigate his roster inclusion with some creativity and Hinch can manage his playing time and ego, if that becomes an issue. I personally think that Miggy realizes he's done, and won't be a problem/distraction in a diminished role next season.
  15. That’s true. We’ll have to see if Miggy is willing to do whatever it takes to leverage current medical technology.
  16. I thought I had read somewhere that his knee could not be repaired surgically.
  17. you missed, "ideal world." Which we're clearly not living in, so at least one of them will likely remain.
  18. agree--it really is just a fairly obvious and desirable outcome for the next 5 years of Baez' contract. Anyone who has seen the guy play SS this year recognizes he shouldn't be counted on to be there for the duration of his contract. Now go and sign the guy we should have in the first place, Mr. Harris.
  19. where are you seeing this? I think any defense of Schoop is damning--just a comparison to Candelario and who is a better fit moving forward. In an ideal world, we cut both loose.
  20. I really don’t care about avoiding that milestone. Next to 2003, this might be the worst year of Tigers baseball for me in my lifetime. They deserve to lose 100+
  21. for our team, I believe Schoop > Candy. I used to be one of Candy's biggest cheerleaders, but I'm over that shit. Both have been infuriating, but I think Schoop has the better chance of bouncing back next season.
