I want aware of that. It's interesting. I thought "markets" were limited geographically I guess.

Without doing research I doubt Detroit metro is top 10 wealth wise in the USA. California alone probably has 4 or 5 greater wealth wise. I would guess closer to 20 to 25.

Javier Báez 6/130....not who we want but not drunken either ..20-20-22-22-23-23 with opt out after 2. He fits Al's budget, improves the defense, has power, prime years within contract and stays on the field. Barnhart -6 ( after new 3 year deal ) Erod 14, Baez 20 = 40mil which leaves al $ for 5mil starter and bullpen or outfielder. -
I wonder if Al is on a strict spending allowance this off season. He seems to be trying to cut some corners to have more monopoly $$. Save 2 mil on EROD, cut Boyd, Goodrum etc and maybe get Barnhardt down from 8 to 6 million by spreading out a 3 year deal. It could add up to nice bullpen arm or outfield depth. And if he did have say 30 million left to spend is it better to get Correa or Story over 10 years or say Chris Taylor AND Jon Gray over 5 ?

This is a solid sign. $ for value is solid. Way better Than Zimmerman. Going for the young pitcher in their prime rather than name recognition. Solid improvement for Al who is now 2 for 2 in the off season. Fingers crossed for a good shortstop. Al seems to move quickly like DD always did which I think puts a little pressure on the player to sign. Maybe it will work for a shortstop who doesn't want to twist during the work stoppage. -
Yes I saw that and while I agree tanking needs to be addressed I think mid season trades build fan's interest for both sides..getting a veteran to win or a prospect to build upon. As for tanking is it possible to rank draft order by increased wins or increased win percentage ? Meaning the team that improves by the most victories from the year prior picks first. That is easiest done for teams that have low win totals so it still should help the lower teams but also eliminates winning 55 games for consecutive years to keep tanking/drafting low. I haven't thought it through but it might work. Use increased win percentage to break ties.

I think Baseball will start on time FWIW

yes that also works.

What about offering Seager and Correa 10yr/320 million contracts paid 40/year for the first 5 years and 20/yr for the last five years and give them an opt out after 5. The player would be the highest yearly paid shortstop, have the security of a 320million contract and the option for another bite of the apple at a young age should they opt out. The Tigers get the best shortstop, pay a premium for the most productive years and then the salary reduces in half ( or most likely disappears) about the same time Tork, Greene, Mize, Scubal etc get expensive.

You make a very interesting point. Everybody assumes Carlos Correa wants to come to Detroit because of our manager but is it possible our manager does not want him at all because he did undermine him before in Houston.
-
I just read Tony Pauls top 50 free agent predictions. I don't agree with but a very few. Seems light on most and way high on others. He has a player who were offered a qualified contracts ( 18.7 mil/yr ) signing 4 year 33 million deals ? He has us with Correa, Verlander and Rondon. 2yr/50 for Verlander and 9/270 Carlos. But who knows he could be correct on most. Waiting to compare his with MLB trade rumors. I do give him credit for putting out $/yrs which isn't easy.

Semien is 31 so he is the best shot at 5 years. Also Baez because he isn't as good but I agree with the board he is not what we want but still way better than what we have.
-
I hope your right since it means we have a chance but Lindor's 10/341 deal is the sugar plum they will seek. I doubt they reach that but still think 300 ish will be attained. Also don't forget the Yankees spending big or discount the Dodgers retaining Seager especially if the Angels come calling. I think LA will sign Seager for 10/300 + and The Yankees Correa for 12/ 342 both of which will drag Story north of 200 and Simean 6/180. But thats just a guess. Probably will be February until we know.
-
Houston, Texas, Dodgers will stay in on Seager , Angels and Mets for Baez are all in the mix for shortstops plus the mystery team ! I still think Correa, Seager and Story all top 200 million and the first two 300.
-
I agree that 2 stud free agent pitchers and a shortstop will blow the budget. But we do need pitching especially for next year and Turnbull in 2023 is still iffy since it will be first year after TJ. Boyd is gone in 2023 for sure if not 22. So which do we prefer : 1.) Paul Dejong trade if it allows us to add one of Stroman/Gausmen and one of Gray/Rodriguez level. Or 2.) Trevor Story and Gray/Rodriguez and Wood/Heany
-
If your right then he will probably be a Tiger.
-
"Call me Dick" Allen was great and a bad *** to boot.
-
I would guess Trevor story will cost closer to 200 million than 100 million. Ray would worry me on a 100 million plus contract banking on just one years performance.
-
I love this move. way to go Al grabbing the best catching option without a long term commitment.
-
I hope it ends tonight so we can get on with the off season and Tiger news. And its the Bullpen.

Michigan State hit a home run with Mel Tucker. Too bad he will probably leave for LSU's $$$. -
Huge long term contracts would be forbidden if it was my $$$. There are so many options to put a team together why commit 10 years. Lindor was average this year and they still have 300 mil + on the books. Gerritt Cole slumped and now he as 36 mil/year for the next 7 years ? It can work..Trout..Max..but even then injuries take a toll. Can any human really stay motivated year round with 300 million in your pocket ? That takes a very disciplined human being.
