i'm not really disagreeing with you, i've just heard it said by a couple beat writers that they plan on keeping cossa in GR next year.

then you're just spinning your wheels, imo. he's an upgrade on larkin but then you have zero good centers on the roster.

because cossa isnt ready. cossa probably wasnt going to play much in detroit next year. i think bultman said as much.

they traded walman to free up money to re-sign seider and raymond. now, i BELIEVE they would have had that money if they had not signed tarasenko and gustafsson but i am not sure about that. i dont think they liked walman's attitude and his weak play under physical pressure. i also suspect walman will be hunted in the playoffs for edmonton. going to san jose is easy because there's no pressure. the playoffs with edmonton will be a different story. we shall see.

so we traded a young(ish) 4th line center for an old 4th line center and a goalie. this trade doesnt really make a lot of sense to me except that they wanted a veteran goalie to spell lyon/talbot. veleno is nothing, btw. just younger than smith.

i hate to be the bearer of bad news but i'm pretty sure cossa was spending most of 2026 in grand rapids regardless of whether they traded for another goalie or not. and mrazek will have more value next year at the deadline when we once again sell.

so we moved husso and used his money to trade for mrazek.

i dont mind the lions rewarding their own. they did it with anzalone and i thought it was dumb, but it worked out. barnes has improved every year so far so they think that will continue. it probably could have been a little lower with a little less guaranteed money, but its not outrageous.
