that's what i was thinking too. the problem is - like you said - using a #1 pick on that guy. you only do it if you think he's the second coming of josh allen. i think that's probably unlikely so i dont think they do it that said, i think it isnt the "same ol lions" to take him. if this regime took him, i think it would be with a specific plan in place for him this year and in the future. this isnt watne fontes taking andre ware because of his super high college numbers in a rigged system, it would be a thought out process to use richardson's skills to benefit the team's offense next year and in the future.

you have weird taste in music.
-
kind of, but you made up for it with this post.

in fairness, the south facing view is of downtown and is much nicer than the north facing view of.....desolation.

fields is 6'3 and 220ish, size wise and running the ball they are comparable. they both have big arms. much more comparable than your willis comparison. edit: LOL.

i'm not on the richardson train, but i do think he would be a great addition to their running game and a good developmental prospect for a few years down the road. ultimately, i dont think the lions go that way. that said, he's a better prospect than malik willis for no other reason than he's 6'4 and 240 and willis was considerably smaller. richardson is more along the lines of justin fields than malik willis. seeing as the lions passed on fields, they will probably pass on richardson too.

that was a nothing trade meant to lower their age in GR and get rid of a "veteran." they didnt acquire anyone with upside.
-
true. i wont shoot myself. for all of your sakes.
-
if the lions trade up into the top 10 for a running back i will shoot myself.

dont pair him with a very low energy tony dungy.

that's quite the low bar to clear. but yes, i think sheila has so far proven to be a good owner. i like her. my only gripe is she didnt fire quintricia immediately, but thats understandable from a first time owner.

hire mercenaries and they will quickly move on to the next payday.

a mobile qb would add a really interesting dimension to the lions running game.

on the possibility of the lions drafting richardson: Diante Lee: The Detroit deal comes with the highest upside, and I feel drawn in that direction. First-round quarterbacks are lottery tickets, and for all my appreciation of Stroud’s and Young’s consistency, poise and playmaking in high-leverage situations, there’s something to Richardson that I just can’t quit. His delivery and timing need work (who better to learn from than Jared Goff on that front?), but his pocket navigation and feel for the game are much further ahead than I remembered in my cursory watches of his 2022 film. There won’t be an NFL throw that he can’t make, and the issues he can create with his legs as a fast and physical runner would fit perfectly into Detroit’s smash-mouth offensive philosophy. Nick Baumgardner I was a bit surprised to see so many Lions fans throw heat at Dane for linking their team to Richardson. Most of those complaints seemed centered on Detroit trading up a few spots to make that pick and the price paid (a first-rounder and second-rounder). We’ll have to see what the board says about Richardson’s value, but I understand why Dane made the move. As Nate mentioned, Detroit’s situation — a stable veteran starter in Goff and a confident head coach who loves to run the ball in Dan Campbell — would be perfect for Richardson. And his skill set would be perfect for Detroit’s offense if the development happens.

pronman - after listing wallinder in the 100s of top prospects - lists him and mazur in his column today on fast rising prospects. William Wallinder, LHD, Detroit Wallinder has been excellent in the SHL this season, as the 20-year-old has been one of the top players for Rogle. As a 6-foot-4 defenseman who can skate quite well for his size and is showing a lot of offense this season, you can one day envision Wallinder in an NHL top four. His defending and physicality could use some improvement, but he’s not deficient as a defender. The tools he has distinguish him as a pro prospect, especially with the level of skill and playmaking he’s showing right now. Carter Mazur, RW, Detroit Mazur’s significant upward trend of development over the last few years has carried into this season, where he’s been one of the very best players in college hockey. His skating and compete level have always been positives in his game, but the level of offense he’s showing right now is quite significant compared to a few seasons ago. Mazur can shoot the puck, has good hands and offensive sense to go with his speed and direct style of play. He’s looking like someone who could be a top six winger in the NHL one day.

he played kapernick afterwards because he was a dynamic running qb. remember the packers game where he lit them up? example of a great coach using the skills of a qb to better the team. i think its a perfectly fine example to use. ymmv.

they didnt have a winning season for five years because they fired jim harbaugh, not because they traded alex smith. and i'll take five losing seasons if i get a super bowl out of it. again, im not even advocating they take richardson or any qb. i trust holmes' decision making. but if they did, i imagine it would be because they thought he had the chance to be a great qb. and im ok with them using #18 or a second rounder on a chance like that at qb.
-
i think those are all good points.
-
how much value does rodgers or goff have right now? that's the other alternative, build up the youngster and then trade the veteran. like the niners did with smith.
-
jared goff playing well last year is great news on many fronts for the lions. they no longer HAVE to take the qb of the future this year, but they still can if they want to. its good to have options.
-
maybe. but if the draft is deep at cb, they should probably take a talent at another position too.
-
in 2011 alex smith (at age 27, one year younger than jared goff is now) broke out under his new head coach jim harbaugh. that team had a rookie qb on it named colin kapernick. the next year alex smith was lights out - in fact, he had a better qbr and total qb rate than jared goff's best season - but harbaugh benched him in favor of this kapernick kid. they went to the super bowl. that offseason they traded smith to the chiefs for two second round picks. meanwhile, kapernick led them back to the nfc championship game. i'll take that from anthony richardson. that says two things to me: 1) talented qbs sometimes need good systems and structures to play well, and 2) there are plenty of ways to build a roster in the nfl. if the lions think richardson is an elite talent they can develop, they should draft him.

then you have a great problem to work out and lots of trade bait with which to solve it.

i love 84lives' lists! the hardest choice on those lists is whether casey mize or tarik skubal is going to win more cy young awards.
-
yeah, but then the list will say how beau burrows and alex faedo and joey wentz are all in the star tier! rather than the "middle relief if were lucky" tier.
