  1. stopping seattle once might have been an even bigger factor...
  2. hate hate hate these third jerseys. love love love jake walman being aggressive offensively.
  3. if im ranking those ten qbs for last season i would have it: mahomes allen burrow brady hurts goff lawrence tua geno garappolo might flip goff and lawrence. would definitely take lawrence moving forward.
  4. a lot of the "touches per game" this season waa becauss swift wasnt 100%. you could tell when he played. shying away from contact or looking out for contact instead of running hard. i think mc is correct that swift just hasnt been able to stay healthy, and that youre right that when he is healthy and playing he's an excellent back. i dont know what you would get in draft capital by trading him, likely not very much. the league knows he's injured a lot and running back is not a premium position.
  5. 3. limited mobility in a league where more mobile qbs are becoming great weapons. 4. higher salary moving forward than a rookie qb. 5. he hasnt been great against good defenses because his arm talent is limited, imo. he looks like a "system qb" more than a difference maker. he's alex smith, not matt stafford. none of this means they cant or shouldnt move forward with goff. but it does mean they should be on the lookout for talent upgrades at the most important position in sports.
  6. michigan's poor performance in a bowl game is a return to the past! everything about that tcu game was ridiculous. i think the defense is less of a strength than the offense. their defense has been set up to beat ohio state and has been able to do that. other than that, they werent really challenged until tcu and that went rather poorly but might be more of a one off than anything else. the offense, otoh, should be excellent again and should have put up 70 on tcu. im more worried about this year's fall off in recruiting anf their inability to use the nil money cannon theyre sitting on. and ultimately, the real concern is harbaugh leaving or continuing to flirt with leaving.
  7. if stroud or young are somehow there at 6 they will have to consider them, but i dont think they will be. i'm not sold on levis, but if holmes is sold then he should be considered too. the ability to sit a qb for a year (or two) and watch and learn would be very valuable. as ive said, i think that was always the plan. otoh, goff has played well enough this year for them to put the plan off for at least another year. and next year's qb class is supposed to be very good.
  8. sauce gardner will win defensive rookie of the year because 1) he's been very good, 2) he plays in new york, and 3) the media annointed him weeks ago.
  9. this really is a return to levels michigan hasnt seen in a long long time. its really a return to where they were for much of the 70s and 80s under Bo. great teams, but never the best and usually just a rung below the national elite teams. now its georgia and alabama, just as it used to be nebraska/oklahoma/usc, and then florida state and miami.
  10. ohio state is a southern school that plays in the big ten. texas is the real underachiever. they have one of the most fertile grounds for recruits, more money than god, and a fanatic fan base. usc is an underachiever too given their inherent advantages. teams like michigan, notre dame, and penn state are national schools with solid recuriting foundations of ohio and pennsylvania, but theyre at a disadvantage because they dont have a home base like california, texas, louisiana/mississippi, and florida. and its harder to get kids to come somewhere cold like michigan or penn state than it is to get them to go to cali (even though ohio state does it pretty well). michigan has a bigger national profile than penn state, but penn state has a better natural recruiting base in pennsylvania. conversely, notre dame has a bigger national profile than michigan, but has no real recruiting base because indiana isnt much and chicago isnt a real high school football hotbed.
  11. if georgia fumbled twice inside the one and threw two pick sixes, they'd probably be losing too. michigan is fine and - if harbaugh returns, - will be better next year. sorry g2, i know how much that bothers you, lol.
  12. gabriel is being dragged for that post all over the internet. a guy who used to have credibility has turned into a bears shill. combine that with his defensive attitude and know it all bullshit and you get a guy who blew all his credibility to stan for justin fields. speaking of fields, the smart play for the bears would be to trade him and start over. he's going into year 3 and will be very expensive very soon and still cant be a qb. great rb who hasnt really improved as a passer. but its the bears. they'll double down on fields.
  13. you dont think anyone who plays for your favorite teams sucks.
  14. crazy money for jamaal williams would be crazy. i like the guy, he's a solid contributor, but he gets what the oline gives him. you can get that out of a lot of backs. bring him back on reasonable terms. if he gets a crazy money offer you pat him on the back and let him go. they have a lot of other positions of need. cominsky was huge for them. what a great waiver pick up. buggs seemed to be better at the end of the year. lets remember, this defense had a bad season. part of that is youth, but part of it is poor play from a lot of overmatched players, especially in the secondary. this team needs an overhaul of the cornerback room and probably the linebacker room too. does derrick barnes improve enough to stick? can okudah stay healthy? is julian okwara going to stay? and does aaron glenn stay? if not, does his replacement run the same type of defense or do the lions switch it up? do they play more zone? if so, that requires different types of corners. lots of uncertainties.
  15. we need an influx of better players at all positions. seider, raymond, and kasper have to hit. larkin has to be re-signed. whatever they get for bertuzzi has to be turned into a valuable player. that's the thing about signing larkin long term, he'll be past his prime when the next great wings team is made. this team is STILL digging out of 5 years of draft hell from kenny.
  16. saints and bucs should suck next year. bears will suck. rodgers will retire. viqueens luck will run out. maybe mahomes gets hurt? lamar is always hurt and might not even be in baltimore next year. by this time next year, the schedule may not look at that hard after all!
  17. the lions are the third team to start 1-6 and finish with a winning record. the other two are the 1970 bengals and 2021 dolphins. the 1971 bengals followes that up by going 4-10. the 2022 dolphins went 9-8, losing 5 of their last 6. what you did last year doesnt always portend good tidings for what you do in the future. right now, the lions are a goff injury away from picking in the top 5 again. as strange as that sounds.
  18. good to see im not the only debbie downer around here!
  19. lions schedule is now complete! home: bears, viqueens, packers, falcons, panthers, broncos, raiders, seahawks away: bears, viqueens, packers, chiefs, chargers, saints, bucs, cowboys, ravens. that is a TOUGH schedule. SIX road games against playoff teams.
  20. i almoat hope they trade down from 6 and pick up another first rounder for next year. then sell the farm to trade up for a qb next year.
  21. even with the refs on their usual pro-packers bullshit the lions still won. good on em. if only the refs in seattle had played fair.
  22. pre season bets: colts to win divison: LOSER packers lions to finish 1-2 in nfc north: LOSER eagles to win division: WINNER bears under 6.5 wins: WINNER really, that bears bet was the easiest money ive ever made. just had to wait a few months to get it.
  23. he wasnt fired because he was black. interim head coaches rarely do well if hired, even if theyre white!
  24. if the vikings lose, the vikes get the lions 2024 4th round pick. if they win, they get the lions 2024 5th round pick.
