LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?
buddha replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Tigers
The previous record for money spent on free-agent contracts in one offseason was around $2.4 billion in 2016. This year, 130 players have signed major league contracts for $3.265 billion. That's a 36% increase. *** poor players. i dont know how they get by.- 1,851 replies

if the lions dont like any qbs this year, then i hope they can trade down and get some picks because they will need a shit ton of ammo to trade up next year. 75% of the nfc needs a qb. 50% of the nfc will be just as bad as detroit next year. there is going to be a lot of competition for qbs next year. that said, the last thing they need is to draft the next akili smith...

ivey is very similar to jalen green.

turnovers are overrated as a stat anyway. if youre the main offensive creator and ballhandler who can get his own shot and shots for others, youre gonna have some turnovers. if youre just a point guard standing on the perimeter lobbing the ball into the post or hitting a jumpshooter on a curl and are surrounded by good finishers, you'll have less. and yes, this is a comment on why isiah was and will always be a better player than john stockton's supremely overrated ass. -
ernie was a really good egg.

isiah had a few 9 or 10 turnover games when he was a rookie too. cade's handle hopefully will get better, but its tough for such a young guy to have the entire team on his shoulders. -
they remind me of the mid 90s red wings before bowman got there. a lot of flashy offensive players who couldnt win in the playoffs. leafs need their mike vernon and brendan shanahan.

nobody does strawmen quite like mcs.

i dont mind the veto, a lot of these laws are poorly written (like most laws), but the general principle will need to be addressed at some point and in some fashion that recognizes trans rights while also recognizing the reality of the effects of human biology and the sex differences between men and women. i doubt a bill from the indiana legislature does that.

https://law.duke.edu/sports/sex-sport/comparative-athletic-performance/ high school age boys routinely outperform the best women in the world. and its not close. the us womens soccer team (that's supposedly far superior to the rest of the world) played a team of high school boys from dallas. and got crushed. i'm not sure how they go about reconciling this with the current trans-inclusion moment were having, but at some point people will need to realize there is a difference between "biological sex" - which USUALLY comes with all sorts of physical advantages for males - and "gender" which is largely a social creation. sports is one are where the differences in biology between men and women matter. a lot.

i loved watching gloria steinem and the rest of the democratic "feminist" establishment rally around bill clinton and say that monica....and gennifer....and paula....were just asking for it or crazy. its all about whose ox is being gored.

good loss. cade scored well and the team lost to the blazers' B team. -
let's just laugh at the leafs for a moment. waive mrazek and sign sateri to play goal...then have to pass sateri through waivers and he gets claimed! so they have to take mrazek back! looking forward to the leafs scoring 5 goals in the playoffs and losing by 2.

mike hughes was let go in minny for a reason: he was terrible. he was sheltered in kansas city and when he played against good teams that game planned (like buffalo or the chargers) he got roasted. see above. he's a depth piece and a swing on a guy with draft pedigree, but the odds that hughes will be good are low. i hope okudah is healthy, oruwariye contines to improve, and hughes rarely sees the field.

what goes around sometimes comea around. otoh clinton definitely did it.

like all those frat boys from duke who raped that stripper. or all those frat boys from virginia who raped that girl who ran to rolling stone? look, i'm jaded because of my job. i see these things when people want money and say all sorts of things to get it (see watson, deshaun). so perhaps i'm not the best person to ask. lol.

same applies to democrats. republicans need to "respect stare decisis" and democrats need to judge from their "life exoeriences." politics. rinse. repeat.

the allegations against thomas were more disqualifying, imo. thomas was someone's boss taking her out and making inappropriate comments. the allegations against kavanaugh strike me as a drunken college episode that may have gone farther than she wanted. and it was over 30 years ago. kavanaugh strikes me as a middle of the road justice who will be fine if youre center right. nothing special, nothing groundbreaking. likely to have a non-descript career. like breyer, but center right instead of left. alito is becoming much more outspoken in his libertarianism and now he has gorsuch, who is not only smarter, but a much better writer. thomas is thomas. roberts is trying to herd cats and stay the center-right middle ground. kavanaugh helps there because he seems to follow the chief more often than not. we'll see if he develops his own voice as he gets more experience. acb is a wild card. i think she'll end up more to the right than the chief, but not as far as alito/thomas. last thing, it will be interesting to see gorsuch and kentaji brown on civil liberties issues. alito may be a libertarian on economics but he has never met a cop he didnt like. unlike gorsuch who has taken over scalia's fifth amendment attitude, which should dovetail with kentaji browns.

if someone accused you of rape and you didnt do it (like kavanaugh says he didnt), how do you think you would you react?
-
and let's be honest, if the republicans could drag up some allegations of kentaji brown, they would have done it. the fact that they havent is likely because they dont exist.
-
i really have no idea. none of us do. however, they struck me as being greatly exaggerated.
-
you think kavanaugh had fake tears and outrage? if someone falsely accuses you if rape in a public setting, you might be upset too. nothing the republicans said to kentaji brown comes close to what the democrats accused kavanaugh of. at the end of the day it is politics. and those making noise on this board about the injustices done by democrats to poor little republicans will be the first to do the same to them if the tables were turned. there's no crying in politics (not even you, brett).
