  1. not only that, but he got shot in the dominican by some gangster. ortiz does some shady shit but gets away with it because he smiles a lot. although, if being a happy black dude as opposed to dick allen gets you in the hall of fame, then why isnt sammy in?
  2. its such bullshit. arod, bonds, clemens, and schilling cant get a sniff and that fat liar gets in on the first ballot because he's "jolly". four of the best players of all time cant get in because the writers have their panties in a bunch about roids or schilling's politics and ortiz gets a pass. manny ramirez should be pissed too.
  3. hall of fame day! too bad shelton isnt here. i think ortiz gets in and nobody else does. which will be a damn shame, but its the bbwaa so you cant expect them to do something smart.
  4. the law attempts to ban speech by candidates for public office, not just public officials. that's a first amendment violation. moreover, what is a "lie" about election results? did hillary clinton lie when she questioned the legitimacy of trump's victory? did stacey abrams lie when she said kemp's win was not legitimate? i am not making an equivalence between what trump did and what hillary and abrams did. but when you pass a vague law like that, you open up the possibility of one party using it against its political enemies. i think its unnecessary and could be extremely damaging.
  5. right. biden said something he shouldnt have and then apologized. that's what adults do. they dont double down on it like trump did. because trump acts like an insecure 15 year old. cause he kinda is. otoh, is jim acosta going to give a tirade about how his life in danger and journalism is in danger because biden swore at a reporter? are we going to get another report from another NGO about how journalists in america are suddenly living dangerous lives and that the us is a dangerous place for journalism? probably not.
  6. it's as bad an unneccessary as that florida law.
  7. the government is punishing people for speech. you'll be fine when they arrest stacey abrams for her comments on the georgia election? let's not pass laws to placate twitter, lets consider the wider implications of what enforcement of that law will look like when the people in power are not your friends.
  8. perfect is the enemy of the good.
  9. clapton has been a nut for a long time.
  10. you'll have first amendment issues.
  11. philly: jerami grant from detroit and jeremy lamb from philly indiana: ben simmons and a 2023 first from philly detroit: myles turner from indiana and georges niang from philly. who says no?
  12. well, i guess i'm the only one who thinks simmons and cade could be an interesting combination. but for his price tag (in value given up and in salary), its probably not worth it. otoh, i would definitely kick the tires to test philly's resolve. i'm still a bit perplexed as to morey potentially wasting an entire year of embiid's prime just to wrangle what will likely be a mid range first round pick plus a young player for simmons.
  13. probably. otoh, its ok to tell lebron james to stfu sometimes.
  14. what's the difference between "shut up and dribble" and saying "shut up and play"?
  15. we agree. my point was that rodgers has faced plenty of criticism and ridicule, just as lebron james did and colin kapernick did. people HAVE told rodgers the equivalent of "shut up and dribble". people criticize others who voice opinions they dont agree with.
  16. just as people have the right to tell lebron to shut up and dribble. right?
  17. except for all the people NOT saying that. the vast vast vast majority of sports people on tv have been making fun of aaron rogers for weeks now. saying he shouldnt be mvp, saying he should be suspended, saying he's stupid. lebron james faced some criticism for his views on police actions in america and some of that criticism was undoubtedly racial in nature and unfair to him. although the china stuff i find to be very fair and that has nothing to do with the color of lebron's skin but rather the color of the green money god he worships. aaron rodgers has faced arguably more criticism for his vaccine views than lebron has and the mainstream view is that rodgers is an idiot. a view that is echoed by the establishment and is never argued against in the mainstream of american discussion. lebron, otoh, was lauded by the majority of the mainstream press. personally, i think rodgers is wrong and he is no martyr. he put himself in this position. but he has faced a ton of criticism and ridicule and vitriol. deserved or not, he's been criticized as much as lebron.
  18. well i assume that's because most of those people agree with rodgers? but people who disagree with him have been pretty loud about telling him to shut up. as usual it all depends on whose ox is being gored.
  19. i think overtime is fine the way it is now.
  20. he's a very good passer and an elite defender. he's tall and long. play him as a rim running 4 on a small ball lineup with a good shooting 5. he'd be perfect in that role. if you defend him with a small guard, you can send your center out high and post simmons up. if you defend him with a big, he can blow by him. he'd be great in denver with jokic. he'd be good in detroit with someone like olynyk. but detroit is not in the position to be giving up young players for a guy like simmons with his massive contract. definitely wouldnt trade bey, but might deal stewart. but i would never give up a #1 pick for him, which detroit couldnt do anyway because they have a future 1 promised to houston. the only way detroit can give a #1 to philly is if they deal for someone else's and then give that #1 to them.
  21. isn't that exactly what everyone has been doing?
  22. you can do a lot with simmons if you're creative. i dont think casey is a creative coach.
  23. but the pistons cant trade a future first.
  24. i think the professional politicians all realize its part of the game and dont take it personal. its when you get folks like trump who took everything personal. amd things are getting pretty personal here in chicago but we have a non politician for a mayor.
