Michigan's Hamlet-like debate about its own soul re: transfers and NIL
buddha replied to romad1's topic in College Sports
sure, but lets not lie to ourselves that michigan takes working class strivers over rich mediocre kids as some sort of guiding principle. that's a myth. michigan people have a very over inflated opinion of michigan's "working class" sensibilities. also, as a side note, it is an interesting shift in what america values that michigan grads would think that's something to be proud of. 100 years ago it likely would have been an insult. -
goff stepped up in the pocket!

michigan taking a working class kid over a mediocre rich kid is more of the myth michigan people like to believe. michigan takes as many donors' kids, rich kids, and kids from hoity toity east coast private academies as anyone other top university. i like mgoblog, but those guys get a little annoying sometimes with their um homerdom. -
raymond is starting to slow down. teams are targeting him and really going after him physically. welcome to the league, kid. seider seems to be the same. still making the occasional mistake but pretty obviously their best defenseman and one of their best players. he seems to always be on the ice, pp, pk, against the other team's best players. the fact that he's doing well and not just holding his own says a lot about him.

harbaugh should be a top candidate for any nfl head coaching job every year. he's the most successful nfl head coach not currently coaching. who else? doug pederson? he's likely to get a gig this time around. my biggest fear is harbaugh to the bears because he would be the best man for that job and it would make me root for the bears. ugh. i could handle the raiders, but not the bears.

trump is a notorious germaphobe, so its not a surprise he was all in on getting the vaccine. doesnt explain the desire to be schtooping porn stars though...
-
well sure, "trump" doesnt set up the organization himself, no president does that. but that's why i said the "trump administration" deserves credit. and trump is a part of that so he deserves credit too. do you think obama came up with the details of obamacare? me neither. but he deserves credit for it because he was the president and it was his administration's idea. franklin roosevelt for the new deal? teddy for trust busting? trump for space force? ok, maybe not that last one but you get the idea.

vincent gray declares for the draft. also not a big surprise. the departure of 4 cbs says more about the state of their cb recruiting under don brown than it does about the state of the program as a whole. gray was a 3* shot in the dark and was starting to give up time to younger players below him last year and michigan has a stacked cb class coming in. he has graduated already and saw the writing on the wall. might as well take your shot and move on with your life. that said, he has no shot at the nfl. although if teez tabor can get a spot playing safety on the bears, maybe gray too can land on someone's practice squad and then get some playing time when the entire team's secondary is out due to injury or covid?

its more than just "oking" the tax dollars. an administrative organization has to be put in place and a plan executed. they deserve credit for that.
-
conversely, the biggest aid to helping people during this epidemic has been the vaccines. and the process to develop those vaccines was started by the trump administration. they deserve credit for that. that may be all they deserve credit for, but its something. biden hasnt done anything to prolong covid and there is nothing they can do - or trump could have done - to stop it. trump deserves blame for contradictory messaging and serious blame for not promoting mitigation measures earlier. if he had done so, there's a good chance his people would have followed in line and not raised as big of a fuss. but that wouldnt have prevented covid or its spread. its a virus and were humans. its gonna spread. i mean, the chinese locked up their people and it still spread like crazy. biden cant do anything to stop it. and he doesnt want to take the next step of telling people were just going to have to live with it and its up to you personally to take responsibility. but that's the next step.

you think there's no "misinformation" in the uk? sir, i direct you to my wife's favorite web site: the daily mail. and do you WANT a regime like the one in england? getting rid of american speech laws could open the door even wider to prosecuting people for "wrong speak" on all sorts of issues. do you want donald trump's doj to be able to prosecute people for saying bad things about the people he likes? or him? or evangelical religion? do you want the democrats to have a "committee of anti-racism" to judge you on your past posts and your deep thoughts on d & i provosts at michigan? i'll take my "misinformation" and rely on my ability to figure it out.

my earliest lions memory was billy sims on the cover of sports illustrated when they started 4-0 in 1980 (and missed the playoffs). then going 8-7 in 81 and ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS BEAT THE BUCS IN THE LAST GAME OF THE YEAR AND THEY BLEW IT. then the strike year when they (and everyone else) made the playoffs at 4-5 and got obliterated by the skins. and then. 1983. they had the niners. they had them. despite FIVE gary danielson picks they had a 40 yard field goal to win the game. and little buddha at his grandparents' home in ypsi watching between his fingers cause he couldnt look, monte clark in prayer on the sideline, and reliable eddie murray just needing this one simple kick to send the lions to the nfc championship game and he.... ....pushed it wide. i came in with pain and its been nothing but pain since.

yeah, but it wont stick to kloubachar, or biden, or joe manchin. it will stick to brown.

i dont see how you put the toothpaste back in the tube unless you want to become china or russia. if you dont eliminate access to the internet, there will be places on the internet to find "misinformation." once the printing press was invented, they couldnt put martin luther back in the bottle either. this idea that you can make it unprofitable, or just "nudge" people to the "right" information will not work. you either go full china or you go home. or you stop listening to those who exaggerate the threat...
