edvinsson is a big, young, strong actual defenseman. hughes is a forward playing defense. edvinsson should be able to be re-signed by detroit for long term. hughes is not signing and is likely to leave than to stay. hughes is a great player, but edvinsson's development combined with the uncertainty about re-signing hughes would make me balk at including edvinsson in any deal. i'd rather have edvinsson than zeev buium too.

speaking of yzerman, his free agent signings this year have worked out much better than last year. still pisses me off a bit to see tarasenko scoring in minnesota when he was such a POS here.

i think he'd give up non-first round picks and potentially some depth prospects for a guy like faulk. but i also think other teams will beat that offer and start throwing first round picks out there. yzerman is probably the most secure gm in the league. the owner isnt going to fire him and if he wanted to leave, he's got plenty of cash. he's got little pressure to do something stupid like giving up first rounders. (i say that and watch him deal a first for some depth defenseman...)

i havent watched a super bowl since the lions lost to the niners in the nfc championship game. my friend is a pats fan. he's rich and has a nice house so i might go watch if he has a super bowl party. but i couldnt care less.

1) dont count your chickens 2) they definitely need another defenseman. cant go into big games with asp on the second pair and hamonic on the ice.

rumor for what it would cost for elias petersson for montreal: kapanen, a first rounder, and reinbacher. i dont know if montreal gives that up. theyre more desperate for a second line center than detroit is. if i'm detroit, i dont match that. no way for petersson, not even with a 25% cap retention. the more i listen, the more it seems like any depth defenseman is going to cost a first. including justin faulk. its not yzerman's MO to trade high picks for marginal additions, but maybe this year they do it considering the playoffs are in sight.

vegas puts up 6 on toronto. marner with a quiet night, not on the scoresheet. it was a big game for toronto so leafs fans should have expected that.

kent's peak was better than whitaker. he slugged over .500 for like 8 years in a row (after he started juicing and batting behind bonds). kent hit home runs and voters notoce that kind of thing. i dont downplay whitaker's end of career, i just noted that he was much more of a platoon player at that point in his career. look, i think he should be in the hall, but i understand why he isnt: low peak, low media attention, out of the game after his career, played in a minor media market, overshadowed by bigger personalities on his team.

getting one point in a game that should have been a schedule loss is a pretty good outcome. minny is the third best team in the west, they were playing at home, and the wings were on a road back to back after a big divisional game in toronto. AND they didnt have edvinsson. it was a good point to get. finnie played 8 minutes tonight. a trip to GR in his future?
