in the history of qb recruits who were #1 overall and #1 qb, there has never been a qb who missed. most were AT LEAST very good. the worst (jimmy clausen) were merely really good. the best (vince young) were world beaters. this is a game changing recruit for michigan. jadyn davis was a 4* recruit whose stock had dropped considerably when he didnt grow between sophomore and senior year. underwood is on a different level. davis is welcome to stay but probably wont, and that's ok in today's cfb. he will be well compensated to play for an ACC school next year and will be just fine. now michigan needs receivers and some oline portal transfers. oh, and a guy who can call plays. -

michigan just recruited vince young 2.0. if they can keep him they will be very good in 2 years. recruits will follow. portal recruits will follow. -
harris gets the loose ball on the rebound and.... loses it. because he sucks in the clutch.

what a play by larkin.

does anyone know why red wings games are suddenly blacked out in chicago?
-
who knew?????
-
prashanth has a nice writeup in his substack on the wings' "contention window" starting two years from now. so dont panic about this year, the wings are planning to be good in a couple years when seider/raymond hit 25. and then compete for the next 5 years after that. so all these moves are really just holding down the fort til then. its not all rosey - he has a lot of criticism for them and wonders where the defense will come from given that he doesnt think much of buium, wallinder, etc - but it presents a different look on this year: transition year.

you just got the consensus #1 recruit in the country who plays the most important position in the country and your response is snarky "hopium"? man, you are one jaded sob. lol -
i told him "go tigers" and that we missed him in chicago. he said "thank you." were in "first class." "first class" on a flight to syracuse is not exactly the posh surroindings one might imagine... given his travel schedule he's probably triple platinum plus. #milesenvy

Flying to syracuse this morning and Jason Benetti is on my flight! he's very polite.

putting all the anger about this season aside and looking at the big picture, this season was what i (sort of) thought it might be coming into the year: a throw away year. next year the cap goes up, their prospects from early yzerman drafts SHOULD be up (huge caveat there), they get rid of lalonde and get a developmental coach. get a high pick (lol, they'll pick 6th) this year and next year they should start to see progress. all that said, watch them do nothing and not spend on any top free agents because no one can make more than the "captain".
-
the wings are the worst team in the league. if yzerman truly believes this is someone else's fault besides his, then he has to fire lalonde. they played much better last year with a similar group of players. what is happening this year that turned them into the worst offensive team in hockey?
-
if they hadnt signed tarasenko and instead just called up mazur or kasper from the start, they could have kept walman and paid seider and raymond...
-
still costing the wings $1 million against the cap...

-
how does kris draper still have a job?
-
restock the picks for what? they dont have one player outside of round one who has done anything. or that they trust to do anything.
-
they definitely need a new director for nhl scouting. what have gustafson, tarasenko, or motte done? not to mention petry, holl, copp... chairot and compher are overpaid but at least they're "ok." replacing perron and gosthibere with gustafson and tarasenko has killed this team. motte is a non-entity.
-
outshot 41-19.
-
wisconsin's terrible offense and qb play bails out dan lanning. lanning is such an ass, he matches up with oregon's attitude completely. i cant til phil knight dies so oregon can disappear as a program.
-
i would say next year is the year they go for the youth movement, but they will have to move some people to do it. copp and compher are here for two more seasons. tarasenko (who has been completely useless this year) has another year. rasmussen. at least they can get rid of veleno. but where is the help on defense? buium? tuomisto? wallinder? all of them HIGH second round picks and none of them have made it after 3 or 4 years in the system. lombardi, mazur, danielson, asp, even mbn should all be here next year. enough with the kenny holland "let the prospects sit in the minors until theyre no longer prospects" garbage. if were going to be one of the worst teams in the league, at least give us a prospect to get excited about. this is disgusting. not only are they getting walloped, theyre the most boring team in the league!
-
they've had 12 second round picks since yzerman took over in 2019 and the only thing they have to show from it is 8 games of albert johannson playing on the 3rd defense pairing.

Time to blow this team up? Or stay the course?

last year was a puck luck fluke. this year has been the opposite as they turn back into the gang that cant shoot straight. nothing excuses that collapse in anaheim. that was pathetic. i hate the way they play. i dont know if that's on lalonde or the lack of talent or both. i tend to blame yzerman more than lalonde. but really, a grown man who still goes by "newsy" has some issues. -
terrible.
