read it pro hockey rumors. no idea if its true.

he lists him as the "best bet in a bad class." i'm fine with drafting him just for that reason alone. its a bad class. if he can make the shot respectable he could be a good wing player, i'm fine with that because we dont have any of those and that's what the nba is built on these days. ausar thompson is going to be a great defender who can make some layups. he will never shoot well enough to be anything more than that. holland may end up in a similar situation shooting wise but without the amazing defense. that would be the worst case scenario and is thus the one del focuses on. however, in THIS class, he presented the most upside, imo. i liked carter too. i like the "trade back for assets" route also. if they did stay put and make the pick, the holland choice seems like they made the best out of a bad situation.

holland is hollinger's #1 player. "The other reason to like Holland is his defense. His 3.5 percent steal rate stands out; some iffy gambles spiked the total, but there is real talent (and fire) on this end. Overall, his rates of rebounds, steals and blocks compare favorably to former Ignite lottery pick Dyson Daniels, for instance, who has now become an awesome defender at the NBA level. I think Holland has similar pathways to being elite at this end." "On top of that, there’s the good ol’ eye test. I’ve seen Holland shoot a ton, both before games and during them, having watched him in person several times over the last year. He has a low push shot that needs some work, but he’s also not a 24 percent 3-point shooter. His 72.8 percent mark from the line is a more accurate tell on where he stands as a shooter — he isn't Stephen Curry, but his shot isn’t broken either. Just reaching the point where he makes one in three would make him a potent two-way wing, and that feels attainable." "Lastly, consider Holland’s age. With a July 2005 birthdate, he’s nearly a full year younger than several other players vying for places with him in the high lottery: He's six months younger than Rob Dillingham, nine months younger than Stephon Castle or Matas Buzelis and more than a year younger than Donovan Clingan and Reed Sheppard. Teams get caught on class year, but birth year is what matters."

Hollinger’s analysis: Yes! I love it! Holland was the No. 1 guy on my board, and I was absolutely perplexed that he was falling so far in mock draft world when his output at G League Ignite was superior to that of several other recent lottery picks. Holland may struggle out of the gate as he works on his shooting and half-court reads, but the Pistons shouldn’t be in win-now mode and badly need a second wing creator to help Cade Cunningham. This is a great pick to start off the Trajan Langdon era in Detroit.

i agree. pure upside play. as of now, they've drafted YET ANOTHER wing player who cannot shoot. maybe cade won't sign that extension after all?
-
if youre worried about holland's shot - and we all should be worried about it - why do you all love ausar so much? he's unplayable on offense right now.
-
it's french, bitch! france is dominating this draft!
-
the nba is about athletic wings. that's ron holland. he's got a lot more offensive upside than asaur (who has almost none). he's athletic and gets downhill. the question is the shot (like ausar) but it's not completely broke (like ausar). trajan must think his shot doctor can work with him. if so, the pick has potential. unless they trade it of course...

20234-24 14-68. Now what? (The 2024 Offseason thread)
buddha replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Pistons
but that was WEAVER'S plan. as if any good player woulf ever hit free agency, as if any team would deal a superstar to get off a contract. i hate troy weaver. -
most of the future consideration trades i could find, turned out the future consideration was nothing or a small amount of money. sometimes a low draft pick or player went back the other way. i thought - and wrote - that it most likely be an ahl guy. but it doesnt have to be, it could be something different. we just dont know yet.

the wizards are trading avidja to the blazers for brogdon and the 14th pick? why?
-
i'm hoping it's something like what you mentioned before, but the league nas to approve these trades and theyre not going to approve something with shenanigans in it. an agreement to do this or not do this in the future is probably not going to fly. then again, maybe it hasnt been submitted for approval yet, who knows? but traditionally, "future considerations" means $ or an AHL roster player.

deion sanders is not a leader. he's an narcissistic, immature, ass hole. they may stumble into some wins here and there because he's able to charm a bunch of 18 year olds and pay them NIL money, but it wont be a successful program. and once his kid is gone he'll lose interest. deion doesnt want to work, he just wants the spotlight. that will become apparent to people after a while and they'll stop wanting to be with him.

if were taking gibson it better come with a nice trevor zegras attached to it. some people swear by gibson, i dont get it. lyon is better.
-
please not john gibson.
-
i wonder what they could realistically get for cade? bridges got so many picks because he's a really good player and his contract isnt crazy. cade will be better than bridges but his contract is about to be a max, so maybe not as many picks/pick swaps as we might imagine. but there's no way theyre trading him unless he wont sign the max extension and wants out.

2024 Trade Deadline Rumors and Discussion
buddha replied to LongLiveMaroth's topic in Detroit Tigers
randy smith was terrible. al avila was also terrible. differenr situations. smith took over an aging mlb team but had some younger players in the system who turned out ok. higginson, clark, weaver, justin thompson, rob fick! i dont think smith gets credit for any of them except maybe weaver (who was really just "ok") and fick (also just "ok"). he should rightly be criticized for the juan gone deal. smith's team's came within a whisker of 500 a couple times. better than "avila constructed" teama have ever done. avila's only good season was a team he inherited from DD and the proceeded to add jordan zimmerman to. i come not to praise randy smith but to bury him. but i'm burying him right next to the guy who traded away hall of famers for peanuts, signed jordan zimmerman to put the tigers over the top, and inked javy baez to a long term deal. winning % smith: 422 avila: 415 (not counting the covid season, which helps avila). theyre both terrible.
