What a weird period that felt like

Czarnik is going back to Grand Rapids so hopefully someone is close to coming back. We need some firepower.

I think Czarnik just cleared waivers so I doubt anyone would give up anything of value for him because he makes less thank $800k so it isn't his contract. They kept him up and played him even though he cleared. My best guess is that he's skating hard so Lalonde doesn't want to scratch him. Elmer hasn't played a NHL length schedule in his career yet so it could make sense to manage his workload but I thought he looked fine the previous game from what I saw. I'm feeling a bit anxious regarding the Wings, I wonder how Yzerman is viewing this season after making offseason moves to contend for the playoffs a bit. Does he ship off assets to get value for them while the team seems to be stalling or does he bring in more help? Guys coming back from injuries are our acquisitions? Wings have been awful at 5 on 5 for the most part lately so something has to give.

Purely an AHL move, Griffins haven't been playing great (and maybe they retained money on del zotto?). If O'Regan plays in Detroit then things are beyond dire.

I think they said he was a healthy scratch which surprised me.

The fourth line of Soderblom, Kubalik and Veleno is buzzing. Veleno made the game 1-0 after good plays from everyone and then drew a penalty a few shifts later.

Good news everyone, Vrana and Larkin are both at practice with non-contact jerseys (guessing they are both a ways away) and Hronek was wearing a regular jersey (this dude's brain must be made of iron). Maata skating too which is huge.

With all these injuries I think this season is toast. They're barely ahead of their point pace from last year if even that at this point, I'm too scared to look it up to confirm.

Reaves absolutely lit Hronek up with an awful apparently "legal" hit though I thought he targeted Hronek's head. Even if it is somehow legal it isn't a hit that needs to be made unless your goal is to give people serious brain injuries.

Hellberg gets the start tonight

No clue what's up with Ned I'm guessing at this point it is something mental since he just randomly gives up awful goals. I don't think they've had their first kid yet either because at first I was wondering if he wasn't getting enough sleep.

Bo Horvat is hitting the trade market after rejecting the Canucks latest offer. Apparently he was a Wings fan growing up and he'd fit well with the team but I don't see Yzerman giving up the assets for him.

I think I saw that Lalonde said they'd see how Husso did on the front end of the btb and he may even go Husso for game 2. Hellberg did nicely down in GR I wouldn't mind seeing him get a start.

I love how he's playing, that tip was really a beauty. He still has some lapses now and then but he's added much needed skill and IQ to the fourth line. He's skating again at least! It would be really interesting to see this roster with Elmer, Bertuzzi and Vrana healthy and in a groove.

Haven't been able to watch closely but leading after 2 is great to see! Hopefully they keep playing hard and don't shell up.

I will say, Berggren is on a 52 point pace over a full season since being called up and I've thought he's looked like a solid NHLer. I'm quite happy with that myself. I didn't watch the last few games since I was in Philadelphia though so maybe he's looked bad.

Agree with your take. At this point I would even just try Oesterle with Seider. You can't break up Maata / Hronek and Wallman is too freewheeling like how Chiarot is playing right now I think. Chiarot should be the stay at home guy but he has more 5 on 5 shots than Seider does 😕

Thought the Wings looked / played pretty good outside of some lapses. Husso finally faltered a bit. I thought Chiarot looked pretty bad though, I would love to get him away from Seider. Hopefully they can start getting better results against good teams.

I really am not a fan of these reverse retro jerseys, the black just doesn't work for me.

Probably not a popular take here but I disagree. Faceoffs are overrated and Glendening has the worst possession/advanced statistics of the entire Dallas Stars roster and yet somehow has the 4th highest PDO so his overall numbers could get even worse. I would rather lose faceoffs and have a fourth line with Veleno's and Berggren's who can contribute in all zones theoretically. Winning a faceoff is nice but if you can't do anything with it afterwards then it really isn't much of an advantage in my opinion. I really dislike players who's game revolves around being stationary in the defensive zone and hoping the puck hits you, so I fully admit I have always underrated him compared to others. But in general I think having elite faceoff guys doesn't have as much of an effect on games compared to other areas. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
