  1. I still feel like the Wings are ways away from making a playoff run. Florida had the benefit of Bobrovsky playing out of his mind for the early series, and legitimate stars like Tkachuk scoring timely goals. I don't see either of those elements on the Wings team right now, but maybe that's just me. They need a lot more scoring depth to consider any sort of run I think.
  2. 3 years @ $7.142 caphit is a crazy steal for a point per game player that is still only 26 you're theoretically getting what old school people consider players' prime. I'm honestly trying to think of comparable trades recently. I'm guessing you can get more than Eichel fetched since he doesn't have major injury concerns / asked out? Probably more than Fiala since they still needed to work out a deal with him and that was a top prospect and a first. My total guess here would be..... Both first this season, a first next season, maybe like.... a third and you'd probably have to give up one of Edvinsson or Kasper (maybe both)? I honestly am not sure just that it would be a tonnnnnnnnnn is my guess. These trades don't happen super often.
  3. I would probably do 9, 17, future third and an okay prospect (Berggren?) or something for Keller? Maybe future second instead of the third? I also am probably willing to overpay at this point I am sick of the Wings' offense being so blah. Trade all the picks and get Keller and DeBrincat haha.
  4. I'm with buddha I doubt Connor gets moved, but I would give up a ton for him. They're probably moving Hellebuyck and Scheifle, Connor's contract is too much of a steal even when strapped for cap IMO. But I guess stranger things have happened.
  5. I think I would, 24 and had a great season last year. Never had much help in Arizona. That seems like a no brainer for the Wings, would the Sens even entertain that? Would anyone want to take Zadina?
  6. DeBrincat is also only 25, has scored 40 goals twice and was on a 40 goal pace in the covid season. His "bad" season last year would have put him second in goals on the Wings (he would have comfortably been second in points too). He also had the lowest PDO of his career last season and second lowest shooting percentage. His possession numbers were still really strong so I would be shocked if he suddenly was over the hill at age 25. I would love for the Wings to find ways to add some scoring because they desperately need it and young scorers just aren't available usually. The Wings would definitely need to get an extension in place prior to the trade. Friedman seems to think that Detroit is a potential destination but my guess is that no one knows and media are just throwing out logical destinations. It would be great if Detroit could add some scoring talent to the team somehow.
  7. PLD seems like such a high maintenance player. I would do a similar deal to what Ottawa gave up to get him: 7th overall, 39th overall and a third round pick. I have read that they're looking for a goalie and a package like the Eichel trade, so could maybe do something like first round pick, Cossa and a second round pick? I'm not sure I'd want to give up Kasper since he's a center and I don't know if the Sens would ask for anyone else outside of Edvinsson, Wallinder and Mazur. Maybe throw Mazur in there? I just feel like it is going to be a lot.
  8. I am surprised on one hand, but on the other hand the NHL is just an old boys' club that recycles the same coaches and GM's through all the vacancies no matter what. Even outside of his actions being labeled beyond the pale by old school vets like Chris Chelios, the dude didn't have any real success in Toronto and the players in Detroit basically said they won their one cup with Mike in spite of him not because of him. Detroit could never sign any real free agents because no one wanted to play under Babcock. So I don't know why you bother with the public heat for an overrated coach, but it is the Blue Jackets (who also just acquired Provorov) so hopefully they just keep their same status as a nothing franchise under Babcock.
  9. Maybe he's a long lost relative of Benjamin Franklin!
  10. That makes me want to dig my Helm jersey out of storage 😂
  11. This seems like a really miserable way to live your life, yikes. No wonder our country is so messed up a ton of people are treating it like their favorite sports team.
  12. Mazur has been looking really good at Worlds playing among the other pros, I'm starting to think he'll be on the team next season after initially guessing he'd be an in-season call up.
  13. Jamie Benn is an awful captain and selfish lover, good riddance!
  14. I think that is his second IIHF suspension oddly enough, I think he headbutted someone before? I don't know what turns his brain into mush for international play because he doesn't do dirty stuff that I notice in the NHL.
  15. Think this will be good for him, more KHL minutes yikes
  16. what an awful play by joe here
  17. I don't disagree with any of your assessments. He flashes some high end offensive talent, sometimes his vision and play-making combo is really fun to watch and he seems to have a pretty solid release on his shot. He'll probably stick in the power play specialist/third line sheltered minutes role at his peak which can be pretty valuable to a team if they don't overpay for it. But like you said, he drifts sometimes and I think that gets him lost in his own zone. At best with that, I think he can be invisible for large parts of games which is tough since you know he has the offense in there (but at least he isn't giving up chances?). I don't think he'll ever PK but I think I can envision him as a solid offensive minded third line winger if he finds more consistency in his game. From the "eye test" I didn't think he ever really looked completely outmatched or anything with his size. He was only a rookie playing 13 and a half minutes a night, and a good amount of his points were at even strength last season. I think there is hope he is still getting better at the NHL level, we'll see. But I'm pretty pleased with grabbing him in the second round of that draft specifically, tough to ask for more at this point. I will say, I thought he actually had more points than he did last season before checking, so I am probably higher on Beggren than people with more knowledge than me haha.
  18. It is a shame we can't combine Zadina and Veleno into one player. Zadina actually appears fairly competent on the forecheck and he could really use Veleno's straight forward game play imo. Unfortunately the Filoe Zaleno player still would be incapable of scoring but what can you do. It would be nice if either player had a sort of Rasmussen emergence like last season but I honestly don't see it without things fundamentally changing in both of their games. At least Berggren seems to have utility from that draft....
  19. My completely uneducated guess is the new GM ejects Keefe asap, but who knows. It seems like Dubas might sit out at least a season but maybe a team like the Pens gives him enough money to come back right away.
  20. That game last night was nuts! I almost fell asleep before the end on the west coast. I'm kinda shocked about Dubas but he seems kinda worn out. I wonder when he'll come back to a team.
  21. If you're trying to find value in Joe Veleno's offensive game/point production in the NHL you're going to have a bad time. But outside of starting a majority of his zone starts in the defensive zone he's largely been a negative elsewhere too so I'm hoping he can round out his defensive game a bit to be a bit of a fourth line PK guy. I'm not sure many saw him being some offensive dynamo in the NHL which is why he was there at the second to last pick of the first. Honestly that 2018 draft really doesn't have a lot of talent outside the top 4. You have a couple solid guys in Dobson and Farabee who both went top 15, and Q. Hughes if you like that type of d-man. Otherwise it is just like... Sharangovich in the later rounds. Kurashev has been pretty good and some defensemen like Durzi are kinda intriguing. But overall that draft was meh.
  22. And the Blackhawks couldn't get any fans to the arena before being gifted Kane and Toews in the draft, crazy how people are more willing to support the teams when they're playing well!!!!!
  23. Then you'll be happy to hear that the Hurricanes now have one of the best fanbases in the league. I was even in the area in the offseason and Hurricanes love was everywhere. Just because they don't play in Toronto doesn't mean they don't have a good fanbase.
  24. Miro Heiskanen is so damn good
