Bertuzzi is supposed to be back tomorrow, he practiced on a line with Larkin and Raymond today. Then:
Ras - Copp - Berggren
Fabbri - Veleno - Perron
Kubalik - Suter - Sundqvist
Erne - Zadina (non contact jersey still)
Wallman - Seider
Chiarot - Hronek
Maataa - Lindstrom
Hagg - Oesterle
Fabbri with a couple big hits early. Tie game 1-1 early, Wings scored first but let up the tying goal fairly quickly. I missed it earlier but our old friend Givani of course got an assist haha

I still think the trade is pretty great, Mantha is a little better than a .5 ppg player in Washington and we know he isn't a defensive wizard. Mantha and Vrana have actually both scored the same amount of goals (22) despite Vrana playing 52 less games than Mantha. Now I know being able to play/be available is a skill and valuable but you throw in the picks they got and I say that it was still a worthwhile move to make; though it is unfortunate with how Vrana is turning out. Plus they got Panik which got them Leddy who turned into Sundqvist and Walman + a 2nd to wash out giving up a second with Panik. I think both players' contracts expire after next season too so they probably get less for Mantha today if he were with the Wings still. Unless you think the Wings could have discovered whatever is affecting Vrana ahead of the trade I'm not sure how much you can knock Yzerman for trying it.
Never caught this before, if I'm reading this article right Vrana didn't enter the assistance program voluntarily....I wasn't even aware that was possible.

Both Hellberg and Ned would have to pass through waivers to go to the AHL on anything besides a conditioning stint. Hellberg has been claimed like three times already this season so I doubt either make it through. I would love to find some team with a lack of goalie prospects to try to flip Ned to as a reclamation project otherwise I think waivers are the answer. My guess is that Hellberg goes to waivers if this is the plan but who knows.
Weak draft and his skating wasn't as exposed against junior players where he put up a ton of points. Teams may have thought it was correctable too but I haven't seen any improvements in his skating myself. Plus he was hyped for a few years and I think the old school hockey guys are more reluctant to go against stuff like that (why I was a bit shocked about Shane Wright last year). There were rumors the Wings liked Stutzle over Laffy and I definitely believe it at this point since Yzerman seems to go get his guy no matter what. I do think some of what Lafreniere does CAN be fixed but it is concerning it hasn't been fixed yet. He doesn't get much power on his strides and his edgework is pretty pedestrian so there might be too much going on?
I think Veleno is benefiting from better linemates but he also looks much more confident. He's making little plays I don't recall him making before and they add up with his linemates to produce chances. It is a shame that the line will be broken up once the team gets healthy because they're been awesome lately. If it were me I'd find a way to bury Suter and Erne somewhere and maybe it is time to not carry 3 goalies...
Vrana played the first game of his three game conditioning stint in the AHL, had two shots didn't see his TOI though. Griffins have been down bad this season...lost 4-1.
Soderblom I think is the first to go, he still has lapses (bad giveaway led to one of the Pens goals yesterday) and can be sent down without waivers.
Nice to see the squad actually comeback like that, feels like a different team.
