  1. After reading the reports on yesterday’s meeting it’s looking like a delayed start is likely. Not surprising I guess.
  2. https://www.mlb.com/news/tigers-uniforms-seldom-vary-from-classic
  3. The two sides have a meeting scheduled Thursday for negotiations. *yawn*
  4. I have no idea what inspired the above comment. Bull Conners!?!? Wow. I’ve never heard of any conversation anywhere regarding suspicions about MLB discouraging black kids from participating in the game.
  5. This has been a primary complaint of mine regarding MLB for quite some time now. After their virtue signaling crusade the last couple of years, they aren’t doing crap for black kids. So much hypocrisy it’s a shame. The SF Giants had “Black Lives Matter” front and center on their website for the longest time. All hypocrisy. What have they done to help black kids play ball at a young age-nothing! What is Manfred and his crowd doing specifically to honestly help black kids get interested in the game and pursue a career in it? I am not aware of anything specific. Joe Morgan, years ago was a part of trying to get something like this off the ground but I don’t know that it ever went anywhere. Latin American players put tons of resources back in their home country's for kids interested in baseball. The decline in black participation in baseball at all levels is sad. The reasons aren’t a mystery but it is still a sad situation.
  6. Every winter I indulge myself reading baseball related books, primarily related to the Detroit Tigers. I’ve been reading two SABR publications that are several years old but still interesting. One is dedicated to the 1935 championship season and the other the 1984 season. I guess you could call this interest my personal hot stove activity. It is definitely a pleasant distraction from what and where the game is today. The one unfortunate takeaway from my readings and interest in the past eras is the glaring difference between what the game was then and what it is today. I know that by today’s standards I’m defined as just an old white guy that can’t adapt to change. I’m fully aware that I am not the guy Manfred & Company care about at all. Manfred is a disaster in so many ways but that isn’t anything I can change. Baseball isn’t the escape from reality that it used to be. It is frustrating but it isn’t going to change.
  7. Yep. We were given the gentle warning that we had to test negative before a weekend visit to see the grandkids. This was before the vaccines were readily available. We were more than happy to oblige. Out of nothing more than curiosity, I still have to wonder how many of these people waiting in line for hours for testing have not been vaccinated. And if they haven’t, why not?
  8. My commentary, free of charge by the way, was not directed at you. Apologies for not clarifying as such.
  9. For what it’s worth… I was listening to an interview with Alex Dickerson of the Giants last year. The interviewer asked Dickerson which guy on the team spent the most time in the weight room. He stated that Kapler spends more time with weights than any player does. I recall Kapler used to be obsessive about his diet and gym regimen. He’s a different bird for sure.
  10. Unfortunately, I don’t see things changing anytime soon.
  11. So I see that there are lines forever across the country waiting to be tested. Are all these people unvaccinated? Is that why they’re standing in the cold for hours to get an answer to whether or not they’ve been exposed? And they still won’t get the shot? Is this correct or am I missing something here?
  12. That Trump handled this irresponsibly is correct. I think it took him way too long to grasp what this was and what it would entail. But, playing devils advocate…the Biden team, prior to the election, raised doubts on the validity of the vaccines for the sake of gaining political advantage in November. Everyone made mistakes. It was a bipartisan effort.
  13. HUGE DISCLAIMER : I do not, and will not, support Trump and agree with much of the criticism leveled at him on this board. However, Archie is 100% correct. Trump did not engineer a new virus in the Wuhan lab, or wherever the hell this thing came from either. I can’t begin to guess at how many comments I read over numerous media boards and conversations the last 18 months that, and I’m paraphrasing here, ‘Trump has now killed (fill in # the blank) Americans to date based on virus deaths.’ It was absurd. I now see some of that empty rhetoric directed at Biden. Trump nor Biden is responsible for COVID deaths and the whole blame game accomplishes nothing. It is the lowest common denominator in rational thought. I commend Biden’s efforts in trying to get this thing contained, if that is even possible. It is a tragedy this virus has been politicized the way it has.
  14. I got Kapler’s autograph when we were there in 1999. I remember him being the guy in promoting the K Swiss athletic apparel.
  15. No, that’s when they hire Ron Gardenhire.
  16. Interesting. So is this decision to terminate the MLB team cards a directive from MLB or Bank of America?
  17. I am registered “Unaffiliated.” I am conservative politically. To your point, I don’t know what November will look like on the GOP side but the midterms will most likely define the party going forward. I’m sure McConnell, like myself, would love to see Trump go away politically. I don’t believe Trump can win at the top of the GOP ticket. He certainly won’t get my vote and he want get a lot of other votes that he got the recent election. He done himself in starting on election night and continuing to this day by his behavior. He is unfit to be president. If Trump is at the top of the 2024 ticket…it won’t be good. I will write in Magnum PI for President and TC for VP. If I were on the Democrats side of the fence, I would be Trump’s biggest supporter right now.
  18. There is a thread on the Politics Forum specifically about this topic and it is just waiting for you guys to show up and contribute. 😉 HAPPY NEW YEAR!
  19. Posey and his wife adopted twin sisters born eight weeks premature in July 2020. He sat out 2020 as a result of this and the virus. I think his real reason for retiring after this season was to be at home more with his family.
  20. Out of curiosity, do you have access to communicating with an HR person? Shouldn’t they be the point person(s) on this issue. I would think someone should provide the “why and hows” on this decision?
