  1. Erie plays Richmond in Game#2 tonight in the best of three series. Jobe pitched Sunday. If Richmond wins tonight and forces a Game#3, do you think the Tigers would permit him to pitch tomorrow?
  2. If I don’t hear the fans chanting, “Sell Our Team!” tonight I’ll be disappointed. There are some die-hard fans there and as a lifelong baseball fan, I really hate it for them, whatever the circumstances.
  3. As early as it is and after only a couple of starts, I’m liking Sawyer Gipson-Long. He’s 25 years old and Olsen is only 24 years of age. And…they’re both natives of the Peach state. ERod or not, there should be a decent competition for the rotation in spring training.
  4. Their Low A club (Charleston RiverDogs) won their third consecutive championship last night. The High A club (Bowling Green Hot Rods) just missed the playoffs this year but won their league championship the last two years. Montgomery (AA) is in the playoffs for the eighth consecutive year. Triple A Durham has won the AAA championship the past two years and may make the playoffs this year. The entire system is top tier. The fact they can sustain this level of success is very impressive.
  5. Several years before I retired this exact conversation/debate had begun to take place in our production facility. The practice of mixing and matching by having numerous individuals certified (I do not use the word “qualified” here) to staff several different poisons along a production process. I was a part of supervising pharma production lines and never was a fan of this approach but realized the trend was in place. I was ‘old school’ as they would say. Like baseball, each responsibility could be unique compared to the other positions up and down the production lines. This conversation regarding baseball is so similar to what I experienced. I admire what Atlanta has done this year. However, I look at how the Rays do things and am impressed with how they operate. I guess it’s really all about how you draft and what you look for in trades and drafts, an overall philosophy.
  6. Of the Opening Day starting five pitchers, Joey Wentz is very likely to be the only one still active and pitching at the end of the season. So goes the Tigers luck.
  7. Looking closer at the IL playoff format: The first half winners will host the three game series. There will be no home games for the second half winners. So Norfolk and Iowa will host. The winners of these two brackets will go to Vegas for the championship games. Not really sure why there isn’t at least one home game for each team that makes the playoffs. When all else fails, I blame Rob Manfred.
  8. Anyone feel free to correct me if I’m wrong. The first half winners in the International League were Norfolk and Iowa. Norfolk in the East and Iowa in the West. Currently the second half leaders are Durham in the East and Nashville in the West. So, if the regular season ended today, Durham would play Norfolk in a series and Iowa would play Nashville in a series. I believe these are best of three series. The East winner would advance to play the West winner. Don’t know if the championship game is a single game or not. From this point I believe the IL champ would play the Pacific Coast League champ in a single game championship.
  9. I wouldn’t take anything for granted against the A’s. They’ve been a better team as of late.
  10. Dan said the Tigers haven’t swept the Angels at their place since August 1993. I’m no math guru, but that’s 30 ******* years!
  11. Jobe finishes six innings. Four hits against six strikeouts- zero walks!
  12. Bought tickets this morning for the Erie/Richmond playoff game Tuesday night. It’s as close as Erie plays to our area. The Richmond team led all AA teams in attendance this year. Considering they play in an old and very outdated stadium, it’s quite a compliment to the organization and fans there.
  13. I’ve never seen so many different color baseball shoes as these guys wear now…on the same team. Neon this and neon that. Don’t even start on all the chains, literally, that these guys wear around their necks. The only thing that is uniform on the MLB mandated uniforms is that ugly Nike slug on the chest.
  14. Cohen is a genius! 😁 David Stearns hiring is proof that Cohen is learning.
  15. Is there a game today?
  16. Currently Jobe is not on the Erie roster, fwiw.
  17. Monroe in the booth with Dan. 👎
  18. As the late Jim Price would say, ‘You can’t make this up.’
  19. He thinks so anyway.
  20. According to the resident manager, Faedo was heading to the pen and Wentz was going to stay in the rotation. So much for that idea.
  21. MLB has Faedo listed as the probable starter against Cole. Just last week Hinch stated that Faedo would transition to a middle innings reliever. Perhaps this is a planned bullpen game and Alex is first up. We’ll see.
