Smart approach.

Means testing has been discussed. I wouldn’t rule that out in the future. Just my opinion. For years there have been suggestions and/or solutions discussed, here and everywhere else. To date, nothing! We are currently seven years out from a consensus date as to when the program will cease to be solvent. Currently the projections are 24% cuts across the board at that point. Again, the 4th quarter of 2032. Individuals that are approaching retirement or in retirement but delaying filing, this can be frustrating. How do you plan? You don’t have any insight into what the system will be like in a few short years. It’s ridiculous. Do you file early, wait, whatever. When you file to start, you’re locked in.

From Evan Woodberry in June- DETROIT -- Detroit rookie starter Jackson Jobe will undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the rest of the 2025 season, the team announced Wednesday. Recovery from the elbow procedure typically takes 12 to 18 months, putting Jobe’s 2026 season in jeopardy as well.

VG is pretty transparent. Our IRA’s are with VG as well. Like most reputable fund companies, VG lists the holdings of all their funds and the weight of each holding. Anytime the words “complex” and “sophisticated” are associated with an investment, AVOID!

My wife and I traversed to Pittsburgh last week to see the Giants and Pirates three game series. Verlander pitched last Monday and left the game after five innings with a 4-1 lead. The one run Pittsburgh had at that point was unearned. The bullpen blew the game and the Pirates won 5-4 in bottom of the ninth, walk off style. It’s been something all year with JV. He’ll pitch well, no run support. He’ll have games where he’s just really bad. And there have been four games that I recall, including last week, where the bullpen blows the game after he leaves. We did enjoy finally getting to attend some games in PNC Park. As Jim would say, “Nice area.” Nice folks there as well.

…and there won’t be any Social Security to fall back on in a few short years. The latest projection as to when SS hits the wall is in the fourth quarter of 2032. Think about that.

This is a pox on average investors. The great majority of workers that contribute to 401k plans know little to nothing about what they’re invested in. Far too many are auto enrolled because they won’t do it themselves. They’re the ones that will likely suffer the most. They’re not financially literate enough to follow their accounts and police them. These folks are going to get rolled. The fees will cost them bigly. They won’t know the difference. I am so glad we are retired. Prior to this destructive move, I have always suggested folks get their retirement account into a personal brokerage account when leaving a job. Don’t leave it with an employer.

Would I be correct if I suspect you left out a word in this sentence? Just a guess.

Justin Verlander became the 10th pitcher in MLB history to strike out 3500 batters. He came in to today’s game three K’s short of 3500. He got his three strikeouts in the first inning. Mission accomplished.

My perspective as well. Morton left a couple of pitches in the zone and they didn’t miss, unfortunately. His stuff was good.

Norris’ career ended with the Columbus Clippers in September of 2023. If he’s pitching on foreign shores, I’m not finding it.

I was a little surprised he got the deal he did coming back this year. He found his best self under Fetter last season. Maybe a bit too optimistic about the expectations of a repeat season from him.

Can you imagine the number of inebriated “fans” there as they wander out to the parking lot, not having a clue where they parked, and get behind the wheel headed home. The place probably made a fortune on alcohol sales with all the down time. What a cluster!

I got into it for two or three years (1997-2000). I had a friend/coworker that worked with an ESPN contractor with NASCAR. He’d fly out to wherever the race was on Friday and fly back in on Sunday. He loved it for a while. He kept telling me he could get me free lodging and this and that if I wanted to go with him. I finally consented. I attended the 1997 Labor Day race in Darlington, S.C. That was the same weekend Princess Diana died. It was on every news outlet anywhere. We drove out to the track that Sunday morning and hung out a bit. I was just tagging along and trying not to get in the way. I was a Dale Jarrett fan the little time I was following NASCAR. Prior to the race my friend introduced me to Dale’s dad, Ned. Very nice gentleman and former Cup winner. I also met the late Benny Parsons. Still have pics somewhere we took together. I spent the entire race in the television booth overlooking the track as Ned and Benny called the race for ESPN. Jeff Gordon won the race and an additional million bucks over the first place payout. Jarrett finished 2nd or 3rd. It was an enjoyable trip. Dale Jarrett won the cup in 1999. I felt that my work was done at that point and I began to take an interest in the newly minted Carolina Hurricanes. Never really followed NASCAR after that. OK, that’s my contribution to rain delay fill-in time.

What a total cluster. I wonder how they’ll handle a rainout. I’ve got a feeling a lot of people are going to get the shaft on this deal.

A Detroit native, btw.

Never a doubt. Piece of cake.

The Yankees acquired Jake Bird (Rockies), David Bednar (Pirates), and Camilo Doval (Giants) for their bullpen at the trade deadline. Last night the Marlins scored NINE runs on these three pitchers over the last three innings to come back and beat the Yankees. As the late Jackie Gleason used to say, “How sweet it is!!!”

Vest is the opener for the closer. New approach.

Wouldn’t it be some s**t if this Bristol game got rained out after all that’s gone into the planning and work!

The site I attached cited the number of murders on a per 100,000 basis. Total population has nothing to do with this number.
-
The link below is specific to the year 2023. It is specific to deaths recorded as murders. This information is recorded by individual counties, not cities. Philly recorded a higher number of deaths than did Detroit in 2023. Interesting link: https://usafacts.org/articles/which-cities-have-the-highest-murder-rates/ Not being a Detroit or Michigan native, it has been my impression that Detroit has rebounded considerably from the 2008-2009 financial crisis. We now return you to your regular game day thread discussion.

The best thing Atlanta can do for their club is fire Snitker.

Great. He and Alex Cobb can talk baseball together.

The shut down inning that wasn’t.
