  1. As long as the top students (maybe top 20%?) get admitted based on merit, I don't think affirmative action is a big deal. If an average White student misses out because of an average Black student, then I don't care. I think stupid lazy people getting admitted because they were born into wealthy connected families is a bigger issue and a very common one.
  2. Are they also going to ban legacy admissions?
  3. Just look at his 2022 stats with Oakland. They are pretty much the same as Wentz except Wentz got more strikeouts. 57 IP 6.79 ERA 5.76 FIP 1.544 WHIP 6.6 K9.
  4. It would be pointless. Trump would just do the same thing he does in every debate - insult people, throw out ignorant one liners and make goofy faces. Then his followers will talk about how he owned the debate.
  5. I just tried it today and it was bad. I would have been really good at this when I was younger. Having the Marlins in the grid didn't help. I care less about the Marlins than any franchise ever.
  6. Don't they know he's supposed to bat 5th?
  7. Also, if I want to know the truth, I am going to disregard anything he says. That's not to say that he never tells the truth. It's more to say that truth is simply another transaction for him. He will always say what will sell whatever he is trying to sell at the moment. If that happens to be coincidentally true, then he will tell the truth. That is not unlike many salesmen. He just goes to the extreme.
  8. I have noticed that there is a noticeable difference in fielding between the lower levels, upper levels and the majors. The strong fielders stand out to me as much as the strong hitters and pitchers.
  9. "if you want to know the truth"
  10. I was a big Lou Brock fan for a while because I wanted to be a Cardinals fan like my father and I though Brock was cool. My father told me I had to find my own team though, so I became a Tigers fan in 1968 and then of course they beat the Cardinals. I still liked Brock, but Willie Horton became my first favorite Tiger and he eventually overtook Brock.
  11. I disliked both of them in their shows. I didn't think either character was funny or clever the few times I watched.
  12. Not that MLB would ever give up the long ball, but it might be too late anyway. The pitchers know how to get strikeouts now and won't give that up easily even though is takes a toll on their arms. I guess the next step would be to convince them that pitching to contact will extend their careers and earn them more money. But we know MLB is not giving up the long ball anyway.
  13. I remember Ted Williams getting credit for helping the Senators become better hitters, but I later figured out that it was Boston sports writers putting a positive spin on something that really a result of a lowered mound and smaller strike zone.
  14. When every team in baseball is doing it, you know it's not organic. It's harmless and they enjoyed it at first, but it's gotten old.
  15. Most teams have gotten bored with their home run gimmicks. That's what happens when you force artificial celebrations.
  16. Echoes is a hater. Too impatient.
  17. I tried to listen to the Tigers TV broadcast tonight. I could not handle it.
  18. They showed the replay of Vierling's slide. Pretty slick.
  19. Every time something NEW comes up, it just takes attention away from his previous transgressions. He's been doing that his whole life and it works.
  20. The true poster boy is Steve Blass. He went from 2nd in Cy voting in 1972 to an 8.5 BB9 rate in 1973. He had the same problem as Rick Ankiel, but the drop was even more extreme.
  21. Yes, in the first two weeks before his injury.
  22. It's miles ahead of politicians too and scientists tend to be more honest (who isn't more honest than a politician?). Of course, the politicians in the federal agencies can deliberately misinterpret the science which many people confuse as scientists lying.
  23. He's streaky but he's clutch. He always seems to get a hit when they need it the most. 😃
  24. That is a remarkable streak. If we assume they have a 35% chance of winning any game and they play 90 consecutive three-game series, there would be a < 2% chance that they never sweep a series.
