  1. Baseball America has been doing this for years and they are almost always wildly wrong. It would be hard for this team to have a trajectory similar to the 78-84 Tigers simply because it is rare for any team to come together as beautifully as that one did. It's possible, but it's a longshot by definition. First, they would have to develop Whitaker, Trammell, Morris, Petry, Parrish and later Gibson. That is a remarkable collection of homegrown players. Then they have to be smart enough to make trades for Lemon, Hernandez, Lopez, Wilcox, Berenguer and Herndon. They only signed one free agent (Evans) and he wasn't even a big part of the championship team. There is nothing about the current Tigers organization which makes me think they are going to pull all of that off. The belief that they will do it is totally based on faith and not based on any likelihood.
  2. Or he could be like Pujols this year and be bad in a limited role but not embarrass himself.
  3. Don't worry. Chasfh guaranteed that we would love him. Be patient. 😄
  4. Is she really as dumb as she sounds? Unbelievable.
  5. No, I am asking which players on the 2022 team (at their current skill levels) would have been able to make the 1984 team. I am leaving projection for the regular season and prospect threads.
  6. I'm just talking about 2022 and 1984 (since the theme of the weekend is Lou Whitaker). I am not attempting to dampen your optimism about the fantastic re-build in any way.
  7. I am talking about 2022 and 1984. I am not talking about 2025.
  8. Dan Petry without a mustache!
  9. I think the default assumption is that someone owed $30 million dollars will play and get payed. Anything else would be an upset.
  10. I hope it doesn't. I'd have been happy if he was done a few years ago. His first nine years were awesome - the best Tigers hitter of my lifetime by far. The last six years he has been a replacement level DH.
  11. How many players from the 2022 team could play for the 1984 team?
  12. Good point. That will likely be the middle infield next year. I think Schoop will bounce back next year. Some players drop off a cliff when they hit 30, but it seems like that is usually accompanied by injuries and declining defense which definitely hasn't been his problem. Without doing any research, losing it offensively without losing anything defensively seems atypical.
  13. Shortstop is the strongest free agent position again this off-season, so it would make some sense.
  14. Despit his throwing problems, Baseball Savant still has Baez at +3 outs above average. EDIT: The OAA stat only measures range.
  15. I generally consider a lot of talk to be a negative, but his talk is so insightful that I consider it a positive.
  16. Play like you're sick for a comp pick
  17. White guy with lots of facial hair wins heart and hustle award.
  18. It saves Ilitch some money.
  19. Fans pump up prospects too much and are then are too fast to write them off.
  20. It's surprising that they brought him up at all given that he batted .132/.270/.245 in July.
  21. Same as it's always been. You don't want your young pitchers racking up 130 innings in starts, but I don't really see pitchers being healthier today than the used to be. All the protective measures don't seem to be keeping pitchers healthier. Medical advances are healing pitchers a lot better than the old days, but they are still getting hurt in great numbers.
