It seems unnecessary given the size of the pitching staffs today, but it happens so infrequenly that it doesn't bother me. If there is one game where Harold Castro has to pitch in a 14-0 blow out, it doesn't hurt anything. I think it's entertaining and it's something that has happened throughout the history of the game.

Anthony Rendon batted left-handed for the first time in his career when the Rays brought in a position player (Brett Phillips) to pitch. Rendon homered. Sounds like it was an entertaining game!

My mom has gone through every stage of dementia. My dad has gone through the natural cognitive decline of an elderly person. Biden is a lot more like my dad than my mom. That being said, I think he's old for a president as was Trump. I'd like to see younger leaders in a position which involves a lot of stamina.

It is surprising than a MAGA can see an ailment in Biden, but can't see that their cult leader is suffering from so many mental health problems that he can't stay coherent for more than 30 seconds.

Did he throw the ball up on the roof over and over and catch it as it fell off? Did he get yelled at when he practiced line drives and grounders by throwing the ball hard against the garage? How many times did he climb a ladder to retrieve balls stuck in the gutter?

That is true every Spring, although probably a little more this year with the shortened spring training. The home run rates and batting averages across baseball will go up soon.

The home run rate so far is the same it was back in 2010-2014 when the Tigers had good teams! The ball is not the problem. The Tigers are the problem.

Dead balls are good for the game. If there are really dead balls this year and it's not just a weather thing, the Tigers will need to adjust long term. MLB will surely liven them up though.

The eyes matter as far as knowing which players are struggling/thriving at a given moment and thus likely to perform different from their averages. I don't know how much insight a manager can have in detailing with a situation has never happened before though.

If something has never happened before, I think a manager can only guess what's going to work though and how many wins is that going to amount to in a season?

I don't think a managers job is so much risk analysis or game theory. The analysts can figure that out better than a manager. It just requires more detailed analysis than we are used to seeing. I think a manager's job is less risk analysis and game theory and more trying to figure out when a given player is not up to performing as expected in a given situation.

I agree there is not much a manager can do without players or even with players for that matter. It's the players. I need to see what the team looks like once Green, Torkelson, Manning and Mize reach their potential before I decide that the franchise is doomed. And I do realize, there is a good chance we'll be disappointed by some of the results.
