  1. Agreed, but nobody had any reason to think Fields would amount to anything. Holmes had insider info on a buy-low asset. AG will end up with a top-three pick and get his QB of the future. Unrelated, I just watched a Ravens DB get away with a blatant defensive hold on a catchable 3rd down pass. Terrion Arnold would have been flagged for that 100 times out of 100 and maybe even disqualified just to be on the safe side.
  2. Feel bad that Aaron Glenn is stuck with such a bad option at QB.
  3. Watched the replay. Skaters were much improved but Talbot gave up two weak goals. Goaltending has to be better than it has been.
  4. Absolutely could not get a hit last night, and really from the All Star Break onward. Let’s hope McGonigle is ready to start next season and some of the other young bats are ready by the end. But it feels like they need to bring in a proven bat as well.
  5. Also this. I know there are people upset about Hinch pulling Skubal after six, and Harris getting cheap and useless relief help at the deadline, but if slots 2-9 go 1-33, well, that’s not going to win many ballgames. Now I’m just a simple fan but I am smart enough to hear the TV crew point out that the Mariners were pitching sliders all night. At what point should a major league hitter recognize and adjust to this?
  6. One year, $1 million. If he doesn’t play again this season it’s no big deal.
  7. Looks like the big culprits were the new defensive pairing, but Mac was calling someone out. Rasmussen was a -2 on the night, so were Soderblom, Kasper, and MBN, but they haven't been "doing it for years." Wonder what happens when Danielson gets healthy.
  8. I'm not sure Rivers is the right comp, at least at this point. Goff still has maybe ten years to play and he is playing with a loaded roster and one of the top GM/head coach duos in the league. Vegas would probably set the over/under on how many Super Bowls Goff is likely to win at 1.5. Maybe he won't get there, but we know Rivers won't.
  9. Philly is likely to figure it out but there is a non-zero chance they implode again. One of the advantages of taking talent over character is that sometimes everyone is on and it works. But those character issues can surface and ruin the locker room. We will see about Washington. They already ruined one mobile QB in RGIII. Are they on their way to doing it to Jayden Daniels? Anyway, I see them as a slight favorite to win the NFC East at this point. Baker Mayfield is easy to love, but TB is 4-1 with a +3 in point differential. They are clearly the class of the sorry South, and they are a tough out, but they are about the weakest 4-1 team one could ever find. Are they better than, say, Seattle? Not sure. But they have the benefit of playing three bad teams twice. Green Bay is a good team but caught Detroit at the right time and the right place. I do not believe in Love.
  10. Oh this has to happen.
  11. I have wondered this a bit, and there is this narrative out there that Stevie is afraid to promote the kids, but he called up Seider at age 20. He called up Kasper at 18. Mazur was a bit older, 22, when he got the call. Maybe Stevie calls up young players when they are good enough to beat out proven NHL players (or “washed up veterans” as some call them). I have no doubt that the locker room wanted these kids. McClellan wanted these kids. That made it easy for Stevie to call them up. But I don’t believe for a second that Stevie is afraid to call up the kids when they are ready.
  12. I think the Wings will make it to the playoffs this year. McClellan seems like a good coach to play for. Don't be afraid of making a mistake (like Lalonde and Blashill preached), just step on the gas and have fun. They'll lose a few games 6-5, but I don't think they'll have any embarrassing collapses where they just lose their nerve. PS: Anyone see a resemblance between MBN and Shanny?
  13. If only the trade happened last Tuesday we could have beaten Flacco two games in a row.
  14. Maybe but Coen gives off some punk vibes.
  15. “Hopes to avoid IR.” If I understand IR as a four-week stint minimum, this would mean he now thinks he could be back for Minnesota in Week 9, right after the bye. Incidentally, since McNeil was questionable on Sunday, I assume he is likely to go against the Chiefs.
  16. Last I saw Danielson took a nasty cross check across the back. It is alarming that they haven’t announced a timetable yet.
  17. Bad news on TA. It will be good to get McNeil and Paschal back. DJ Reed probably week 9. Unfortunately we have the Chiefs and the Bucs coming up, then bye, then Vikes, Washington, Philly. Not sure we can wait for reinforcements.
  18. Strong endorsement of TA. Would have had his first INT if Kerby Joseph didn’t get it. I hope the Lions send the league office a cut up of TA getting called for nonsense that no other CB is getting called for. He is a good player with a bad rep.
  19. Not a glowing endorsement of Manu, and a bit of an ominous report on Decker.
  20. Would have had three sacks and a safety if he had lined up onside and if Terrion Arnold had been wearing someone else’s jersey.
