  1. Witherspoon was on next. He literally said, “I got that dawg in me.” I could see them going for Witherspoon at 18 but not six. PS: Your boy Charlie Campbell has Witherspoon slipping to the mid first due to size concerns. And that was before he wasn’t able to perform at the combine.
  2. Pat Kirwan used to be a coach and front office guy. He likes to ask the combine guys softball questions about scheme, then if they give a good answer, he digs deeper. He had Gonzalez talking about all the coverages, when Oregon ran what against who, and Gonzalez was eating it all up. Kirwan never got to those questions with Witherspoon. Also, Gonzalez talked about his athletic family. The guy is a thoroughbred and he knows it. Has that swagger that you want a CB to have, but you don't have to worry he's going to go all Pacman Jones on you. If they took him at 6 I wouldn't be upset.
  3. Imagine being the guy who shows up at LCA in a Vrana jersey.
  4. He didn't make them get rid of Davante Adams, and he didn't make them pick Jordan Love instead of Tee Higgins.
  5. Pretty good pair… in 2012.
  6. Fast for a guy that big. He was on Moving the Chains last night, before they had Witherspoon on. Gonzalez came off very polished when they asked him about various techniques. Witherspoon came to football later in life and talked about toughness. If they pick one of them at six I hope it is Gonzalez.
  7. Who was he throwing to?
  8. Holmes: “It’s easier to get worse at QB than it is to get better.” Interviews Richardson at combine. Fans: Let’s trade Goff to Minnesota and sign Jimmy G as a bridge to Richardson. I guess anything is possible, and I do expect Holmes to make a bold move in the draft. But drafting Richardson at 6 is not it.
  9. I don’t believe there is any chance they will take a QB at 6. That said, they have to do due diligence. It would be irresponsible for them not to interview Richardson. Also, for competitive reasons they cannot signal that they are not considering QBs who may fall to 6.
  10. If he's truly an every down back, he lights up the combine, and he is there at 18, well, 🤷‍♂️.
  11. Well, I guess the dorks on Reddit will have to quit talking about “2z” now. It’s a shame he wasn’t dealt last season, but how could Stevie know he was going to have such bad puck luck this season? It always seemed that this season was too early to expect a playoff run, but I’m not SY.
  12. Whaaa??? Big if true. I heard speculation it was spinal fusion surgery and return to action was doubtful at best. Would be fantastic if that is wrong.
  13. Was anyone enthused when they signed John Cominsky? No. But he turned out to be one of the team’s most valuable defensive players. They didn’t say they were sitting out free agency, but they did say they will fill roles and not look to one FA signing to get them over the hump. That makes perfect sense. And if they can fill holes through FA, Holmes has demonstrated that he will be aggressive to get game changing players through the draft. I think this will be a fascinating draft for Lions fans, and I suspect Holmes will make at least one major move that catches everyone by surprise.
  14. Yes, it doesn’t seem like there is a CB worthy of a 6. Maybe someone blows up the combine and that changes. There is no clear hierarchy to the DL prospects, beyond the top two. Ideally Holmes finds us a game wrecker there but it seems like all of the scouting reports have some kind of asterisk. (Which is why I wouldn’t be surprised to see them go with the guard/future RT.)
  15. Was that two pages of debate about how people should respond if Goff is upset if the Lions pick a QB? Wow. I still think it is more likely that Goff is the Lions QB on his 35th birthday than the Lions pick a QB on day 1 or 2. If they have to stick at 6, I have a hard time seeing them pick a CB. Still suspect they might surprise us by picking Skoronski if they stick at six. Yes it’s high for a guard but he will be a ten year starter. Also Decker’s contract ends after his age 33 season in 2025. That will be his tenth year.
  16. A scenario like that is almost enough to make you feel bad for Aaron Rodgers.
  17. Are we talking about Jalen Ramsey in this thread or the other? Unnamed execs quoted as saying he is no longer an elite player: https://www.walterfootball.com/nflhotpress/article/Teams-Feel-Ramsey-Not-Worth-a-First-Round-Pick
  18. Who needs luck when you have a top-tier OL, a QB who gets the ball out quick, and an OC who can scheme guys into five yards of separation from coverage?
  19. Yikes. There’s the rest of the story. Carter will probably fall, but I don’t see this Lions leadership taking him.
  20. Yes. If the team is looking for backups, it would be far more important to have them on the OL so Goff can stay upright if one of the big guys breaks a finger or a toe. On Holmes’s comments… I would be astonished if they take a QB on day one or two. He can’t tip his hand, as it would be to his benefit if there was a run on QBs before pick 6. But I wouldn’t at all be surprised if Goff celebrates his 35th birthday as Lions QB.
  21. I am certainly no Lombardi defender (and I don’t need to be since apparently Sean Payton is). But I seem to recall the blocking schemes under Lombardi being utterly inept. Like multiple unblocked rushers all the time. In my recollection, I had pinned that at least in part on Prince as OL coach. But as I refreshed my memory I saw that Prince was TE coach those years. In retrospect, maybe Prince was de facto passing game coordinator as TE coach and got demoted to OL coach after Cooter got elevated.
  22. Lombardi gets jobs because he is connected to Sean Payton. I recall him being horrible with Detroit, but looking back it’s probably fairer to say he was not very good. And he was saddled with Ron Prince who seems to have been a terrible coach. Caldwell’s loyalty to him may have cost Caldwell his job. With the Chargers, Lombardi had a season where he was fifth in points and fourth in yards, and then got fired after a season when he was 13th in points and 8th in yards. That’s a pretty tough pill to swallow.
  23. I have a hunch that the biggest loser will be Sean McVay.
  24. One glorious season. I know he’d never trade it, but imagine living through a decade of clown shows only to leave and have the franchise turn the corner as soon as he leaves. He must be wondering what he could do with ASB and Jaymo and an OC who can scheme players into ten yard cushions.
  25. It might be hard for Les Snead to trade Ramsey to the Lions for less than a 1 when he's dealing with the bad taste of sending us a #6 (which he assumed would have been more like a #26).
