  1. does it really matter if Lucas pitches the 8th or the 3rd? they lacked depth, and now injuries and ineffectiveness have laid that bare.
  2. its a small sample size, but over his last 4 at bats, Javy is batting .250!
  3. makes sense to convert Holton to an actual starter
  4. Holliday-Basallo-Mayo for Skubal-Flaherty
  5. because no one else will and we don't want him homeless. I used to find him annoying, but if you don't take him seriously, I think his schtick is sometimes entertaining
  6. assuming nothing odd about last few unsigned guys taken 11-20, they have about 2.6M left to spend on 3 HS pitchers from CBP, 9th and 16th rounds. If CBP get 1M and 9th rounder get 600K, you can offer 1M to 16th round pitcher who said he did not even watch draft because he's going to Tenn. Does not sound like that will change his mind but you never know.
  7. I tell people at work to not use "perfect" but it really is the perfect storm to get a great return for Jack. I don't think it is just going to be the value of comp pick + some more. Having LAD and maybe NYY involved, maybe Philly, and Houston and Atl - could lead to irrational return. should also get good returns for average bats - lots of teams are starving for even league average production from holes in their line up.
  8. Rushing, Jackson Ferris and Alex Freeland for Flaherty would be enough for me
  9. immediate back starter and McKinstry's replacement - not exciting
  10. FG's luke warm offer - not bad, not awesome The Los Angeles Dodgers acquire RHP Jack Flaherty from the Detroit Tigers for LHP Justin Wrobleski and SS Trey Sweeney The Tigers are no doubt asking for the moon for Skubal, but they don’t have the same need to do so for Jack Flaherty, a free agent at the end of the season. Flaherty’s been terrific this year, but he’s also a rental, and teams don’t usually give up their best for players on expiring contracts these days. I kinda wanted to center this trade around one of the Dodgers’ many young catchers, probably Thayron Liranzo, or an infielder on the rise like Alex Freeland, but that just seemed a bit too rich for them to give up for two months of Flaherty’s services. The good news is the Dodgers have an extremely deep farm system, so if a trade like this were to be discussed, there are myriad ways to get Detroit interested, even if it’s not exactly these two mid-tier prospects. Justin Wrobleski is probably too much of an innings eater for the Dodgers, who prefer to juggle high-end pitching talents based on who’s healthy, and although Trey Sweeney has been passed by other players in the organization, the Tigers could still use him in their system.
  11. every trade Harris has made has been solid: Canha, McKinstry, Malloy, Kim, Veirling
  12. I see the Mariners' line up is disintegrating. Canha and Urshela for Emerson Hancock. Tigers get controllable #5 SP who lacks swing and miss stuff to crack Ms rotation.
  13. yep; Ibanez fits nicely on this team to complement Keith and Jung and fill in at 1B; but hard to see him doing any better than he is now; maybe you get a nice return for him, and see what Leonard can do
  14. Philly and NYY and LAD have been rumored to be interested in Flaherty. Possible bidding get nuts for him? I won't mention last year, but don't blow it (again) Harris! other guys are filler or will just return a flier (of course they could always find Olson 2.0)
  15. Os are not trading their blue chip guys for anyone, but you can have these blah veterans https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/07/orioles-willing-to-trade-ryan-mountcastle-cedric-mullins.html
  16. Toledo has 6* solo HRs, but Madden got absolutely rocked once again. Dingler (2), Tork, Kreidler, Navigato, Unroe.
  17. Jack is a big union guy, so I would be very shocked if he did not go into free agency and get a jackpot contract. I doubt it, but that contract could be with Detroit.
  18. Daniel Cabrera is on Restricted List; I guess that's like a limbo area before they release you to the wonderful world of selling life insurance?
  19. nothing official; Swanson told local media he was signing for 3rd round money. they would have had a general understanding with the CBP guy before they drafted him
  20. unclear if she fears the pole or the mines more
  21. they appear to actually be getting better as the season progresses - which should not be so surprising, but it is
  22. I know he said he is going to UTenn, but I think they have enough to make 16th round pick a very nice offer
  23. maybe you could have argued for Jobe to jump up if things were going well and there was just one hole to plug; too many holes on both sides of the ball to overcome lack of talent and depth (or what Chas said)
  24. I do think that VP picks can be helpful. Obama picked Biden, an old white man for a reason. Trump picked Pence, a "christian" seemingly normal person for a reason. Romney and Ryan made some sense. Getting a purple state governor like Beshar or Cooper would be interesting choice.
