  1. Then they should be discussed here too. But any time the lack of movement this year at the deadline is raised, or evidence that it’s a viable strategy is presented, the Eagles are brought up because they didn’t re-sign someone last offseason or didn’t win their playoff game this year. It’s reasonable to question the lack of movement. At the trade deadline we had needs at OL, DE (or anyone who can rush the passer), CB and S. We should be questioning if not finding an improvement at any of those hurt this team’s chances at making a run. It should be fair to question if saving mid to late round draft picks for projects is more valuable than improving the team today. I love the idea of building through the draft, but reality is that even Holmes is going to miss, and many of these mid to late round picks are only viable several seasons later. This is a rough sport, it’s highly likely that injuries are going to happen that you couldn’t have predicted 2+ years ago to have the project ready to step up, so sometimes spending draft capital to improve any area, even to league average, could be the difference. I would like to see the team get a little more aggressive now that the core is in place. I don’t think that’s a crazy ask. I’d be interested if anyone has credible info and any real trade targets from this deadline. New England didn’t make and trades but they are reported to have made several offers and just got outbid. One was getting outbid by Seattle in the trade that started the latest attack. And before the strawman of “MaYbE the LiOnS sHoUlD hAvE tRaDeD fOr ShAhEeD” gets built we can all agree that the Lions did not need a WR/PR, even given our KR was embarrassingly bad. There were just bigger holes.
  2. Also, Raymond need to figure out how to not take so many big hits. He’s not going to last if he doesn’t.
  3. Love that Seider just skated to Larkin after the goal as Cowen bounced off him onto his ass.
  4. Eagles won the Super Bowl last year and made the playoffs this year. It’s a weird angle to take, but OK. The Lions missed the playoffs. They failed. Throwing your hands up like, “welp, nothing at all we could have done differently, hopefully we get lucky next year” is a loser mentality. What could they have done better? What decisions held them back? These are valid questions. As Nate said, it looks like the RB usage has driven one half of our inseparable duo to want out of town. Is he cooked? Or was it inability to see the value of Montgomery? In mid October, “Gibbs has played 230 snaps this season, or 62 percent, while Montgomery has played 143 snaps, which equates to 39 percent of the team's action.” Would Gibbs have been more productive later in the season if he wasn’t overused in the first third?
  5. The need to act like Holmes and Campbell are always right is near cult like. It’s acceptable to be a fan of someone and still disagree with some of their decisions. You are allowed to expect more and still support them. You are even allowed to openly question them without wanting them replaced! Why are people like this? If we aren’t winning then the plan didn’t work. It’s not really even debatable. The “rebuild” is over, no more looking toward the next draft. There is enough talent on this team to be in the playoffs. Something went wrong. It’s not just injuries, SF has an entire conspiracy theory around their injuries and they won a road playoff game.
  6. They did the right thing not making any moves. Next year will be our year!
  7. Seahawks changed their season with trade deadline deal for Rashid Shaheed “Macdonald said targeting Shaheed in a trade was part of the Seahawks’ overall approach of never missing an opportunity to get better. “We’re relentless,” Macdonald said. “That’s our philosophy, we’re just constantly chasing, what are the things we can do to make our team better, all the time.” The Seahawks are showing how much a team can improve if it’s willing to take a big swing at the trade deadline. Other teams should take note.”
  8. I think being friends with a success coordinator it really something that should be on a resume. Being a midling coordinator for a bad team is neither a positive or a negative. So we shall see if he made the best with Murray and Conner, or if someone had to get some yards. We will see. I personally don’t care if coordinator leaves every year or so. Success does that. Guess who isn’t getting a HC gig? Morton. Because he was bad. Morton’s numbers probably look pretty good. He led a Lions offense for half a season that I see people here say was highly successful based on their stats. We all know he was in fact not successful. He didn’t know how to use the players he had. He was replaced mid season.
  9. Maybe this was genius. Or maybe this is a head coach afraid to hire his own mid-season replacement. Time will tell.
  10. I’d rather that than the Seahawks or Patriots.
  11. 14 quarters, yuck? Cherry-picked stats are no bueno. Curious if we think he is the reason the Lions lost in the NFC championship game. I can’t say that. I missed the Washington game, was busy getting engaged overseas and then didn’t bother watching once I knew the outcome. This Bears team played above their heads all season. They are totally due for a regression. But he did a great job of making a running game out of this garbage OL and mid RBs. He made Caleb Williams look serviceable. The Lions would have ran away with the division if he was still here. I just don’t get the hate. i’m also glad he’s not our HC. I think his shtick is going to wear thin quickly.
  12. Bears had a good run. Only time will tell if their FO is going to keep young talent coming in. Ben Johnson will be a good play caller no matter what. Also time will tell if he can split his focus and keep the team together and focused.
  13. I agree. I had a post similar to that. I think that the only way to solve the issue with gambling in the mix.
  14. I’d take a Quinyon Mitchell type if there is one.
  15. This team is way better than what we’ve had for a long time but they are still not very good.
  16. Sean McVay will coach 15th postseason game — against 15th different opponent
  17. They owed us for the Raymond penalty and for the linesman getting in the way of that outlet pass in OT. But the Wings are passive in all aspects on defense while teams like the Canes can put pressure on an offense. Don’t think we can expect to be successful in a long series playing bunched up in front of our net.
  18. Lucky. Wish I was there.
  19. I think I was in the nosebleeds for this game
  20. I don’t like what the Packers did for their long term prospects. I think there is something between that and a no trades though. I don’t value something like a 3rd round pick over picking up talent and making the playoffs.
  21. I agree. Just thinking that if the defense is slipping and Lamar and Henry suddenly fall off a cliff, maybe this team is just riding the tail end of the Ozzie Newsome wave. Or maybe not.
  22. Flip side. You have to be in it to win it. Neither the Packers nor the Eagles lost because of their trades, and were likely only in the playoffs because of them. I struggle to justify the Packers price for Parsons long term but also hate that we have to play him 2x per year. The Eagles traded a 3rd for a very disruptive pass rusher. I think trading 3rds for someone like Philips is acceptable.
  23. I’d put Falcons #2. They have a great core on offense without the injury problems and are not tied to a big QB salary. They also play in a winnable division. I have to think the Dolphins are only above the Raiders simply due to Tua. I’m personally higher on the Browns than either the Cardinals or Titans. I guess the Titans depends on if Cam is the real deal or not. Also, if the Ravens magic is over on defense that job could be a trap. Lamar and Henry are reaching their shelf life on running in the NFL.
