  1. the 1%'ers make money if the market goes up or down. If it blows up the banks in the process, we bail them out. News at 11. Read things like it's 1999 again, just before the dot-com blowup. Might be right. The only people who will get ****ed is us. Fun watching your retirement account take a beating in only a few months. Late 2008 it all looked pretty good. By March 9, 2009, the S&P bottomed (intraday) at 666 something. Ain't that wild? It's different this time they will tell us. Giggle. I think I also caught a Cramer clip saying it was time to buy.
  2. 5/3rd bank sucks in about every way possible. Maybe every way. You will have your very own personal banker that ain't worth a bent ****. Of course all banks suck, for the record.
  3. The Tigers hitting approach at the plate looks like a bunch of drunk 10 year olds playing Wiffle ball in the dark under a full moon.
  4. Which Economic Reports May be Cancelled Due to the Government Shutdown? Government shutdown = market all time highs (or close). You can't make this **** up.
  5. They talk about The Mick, but he was a junk-baller, a completely different deal, so I agree. But, these guys throw every day, they have to. I don't know how to look it up, innings are easy to find (not really for me because I don't look for them) but I would be more interested in pitch counts. And how far between starts. Didn't Skubal have like 6 days between starts not long ago? Maybe the arms are too expensive today.
  6. I just read he is the projected starter on Sunday. WWJLD? What would Jim Leyland do? He's my hero, followed his whole career. Was mad when they hired Sparky (had a dog named Sparky) instead of Jim. Was thrilled when he finally got the job. I live an hour a way from a high school baseball field named after him. I was so sad when he retired. I can't watch his hall of fame speech because I would cry like a baby. I'm guessing Jimmy would give Tarik the ball game one, and tell him to get it done. You take the game to them. Go with your best. Win game one, the pressure is on them. No matter, I'm going to get 40 years older in the next week.
  7. Depending on what they decide, Skubal will pitch game 1 and 4, or 2 and 5. If he goes 1 and 4, game 4 will be in Detroit. If 2 and 5, both will be in Seattle. What is the advantage/dis-advantage to the ball park and matchups of the parks?
  8. I'm old and I'm old school. I don't see how they don't start Skubal game one no matter when it is. I don't know how to look up the stats, but like someone said, he's had some rest. I think he went a little over a hundred pitches that day, and around 92ish the game before. He's a horse, and shouldn't be overworked. He throws every day except maybe the day after a start. Besides, he will be gone anyway. And Detroit should be glad that happens. He will be too expensive, so get something. He will break down early and never make the end of the contract he will command. He's already had arm surgery as I understand. He has a violent delivery that will eventually doom him. I love to watch him work, and he is absolutely (as Rod Allen would say) filthy when he gets it all going at the same time. Incredible talent. This chance only happens once every so often, maybe a lifetime. My Indian friends were talking about 1948 today. We are lucky, many remember 84, and maybe some 68. But this is when you leave it all on the line. Nut the **** up. And quit swinging at bad pitches.
  9. IMO, the worse drive in Ohio is going South 23 from anywhere. The road you need to take to Columbus. From about anywhere North. Just on the North side of Deleware (nice state park) is a traffic light. First light is Rt. 229. Rt. 270 is 43 miles away. I think I have lost count, but pretty close, there are 38 traffic lights.
  10. I don't know if this dip**** knows his role, or he doesn't know he is the Mark - using poker vernacular. When this whole ****house blows up, which it is about to do, someone gets the blame. It will be him. Someone has to take the blame, why not him? And hey look, we have Al Czervik from Caddyshack. So easy. You can't make this **** up. As the old Jerry Reed song said years ago...something about the gold mine and the shaft. I can't wait until the part of the movie when they bail out the banks, again.
  11. As you are driving south going through Findlay, watch on the left for about...5 huge windmills, not sure how many. There is a Whirlpool plant just off 75, I don't remember how much of it you can see, if any, but you can see the windmills. Whirlpool and a company called Ball Corporation financed them to feed their plants (only paid part of the bill). They go back to the mid or early teens. Whirlpool has a huge dishwasher plant there. I worked there when they were putting up the windmills. Once the large support was in place, you could see guys standing in the cavity where the spinning shaft will eventually be. Fun to watch it all go on, but...given hundreds of us had to get in and out from all over, it was a real pain at times. When they shipped in the blades traffic was a giant cluster. I wonder, if they were not so close to 75 if it would have ever had happened? Those blades are pretty long. They could never truck them to Cornhole. Funny town Findlay. They are on the I75 corridor, which is a good thing. That helped them grow. They also have Marathon Oil's corporate office, Cooper Tire & Rubber (who I think might have been bought out by Goodyear) as a couple big names. The downtown is small, but kind of neat. Quite a few food places to chose from. But they have trouble with floods. The Blanchard river has flooded ever since Moby **** was a minnow, and they never did jack squat. It ended up running places away from downtown because they kept getting flooded. It's a very wealthy town. There is a...I don't know what to call it...myth maybe. They said that Dave Thomas of Wendy's fame square hamburger was stolen from a Findlay restaurant named Wilson's. I don't know if that is true, but I ate there, and they are square. It was a long time ago, but I don't remember when. First famous person I think of is Ben Roethlisberger.
  12. Baseball and girlfriends are not a good match. Maybe for a while, but... At least way back when. They got a huge break today. Don't beat yourself. Back to the basics - as always.
  13. I know from reading this board(s) for many years, you said you played baseball at a higher level than most. I have to disagree here. No way, no how does that ball get by him. Period. Even if you don't get the out. At this level, they should know how the spin works. You can't let what happen, happen. Not trying to start a fight, just the old baseball guy in me coming out. That said, I feel for all those who couldn't watch. Major bummer. We got a gift when the guy became a sitting duck. FINALLY, a little something goes our way. I aged about 10 years in about an hour today, but I guess that's what keeps us coming back. When the game was over I headed to my watering hole, full of Indian fans. Giggle. Sat with one. First thing he says; you lucky *******. Yes, I suppose that's true. Well, maybe the guy shouldn't have ran half way to the plate so he is a sitting duck. NO, he was only a little bit off the bag says the guy. It would be really special to see this done tomorrow. The bucket list gets another checkmark.
  14. I was only 10. :-) The North coast of Ohio along Lake Erie is really pretty neat. Put-in-Bay, Kelly's, North shore stuff, Cedar Point, etc. Then there is the gazillion dollar drive. From mid Ohio along the lake to downtown Cleveland to a ball game. The money along that stretch of highway is really impressive.
  15. Good for you. You know they appreciate that stuff. They know there are only so many more days left, and each one precious. Any little thing like that is a blessing. Me and a couple of buddies took a trip to the Amish country in SE Ohio one time. Old people do that. We were coming out of a restaurant and I was holding the door open for a guy who looked to be in his 80s. The other two I was with were trying to figure out where we parked. I looked at this guy and said; We already lost the car and we ain't even started drinking yet. He got the biggest kick out of that. Probably made his day. It is really no fun getting old. Rest homes really really suck.
  16. There are about 8 of us, not all show up everyday, but enough. We love to hear the "work day" horror stories of those who are not as fortunate. It really means a lot to us old guys (from 65 to almost 80) to just get out and talk to people every day. The "youngin's" think we are a hoot. They are too. Funny, the bar owner is a long time rabid Tiger fan. I'm guessing he will watch the games at home this week. They have about 10 TVs at his bar. The Tuesday night the Indians scored 3 runs without hitting a ball out of the infield and Skubal hit that guy, some of the Indian fans said he did it on purpose and it got a bit ugly I guess. Glad I wasn't there. Good place to get your ass kicked. Speaking of ass kickings...Hello Tigers!!!! The stat guys might appreciate this, but I'm on the "reversion to the mean" train.
  17. What do we win?
  18. I peed in it. 🙂
  19. I live in the middle of Indian country about 2 hrs from Cleveland's stadium. 3:30 is my usual daily trip to see the other retired guys and have an adult beverage. Not tomorrow - no way, no how. Game will be on, place will be full - all Indian fans who are insufferable. Skubal has had extra days off. I expect him to struggle early. Arm is too live. Fastball will be good, but the other stuff won't do what he wants it to do. Especially that kick ass change. The pitch which sets up the others. Don't walk people. Hope he can settle down and get in a groove after a few innings. What to do with Ramirez? The Tigers have to put the ball in play. Hit the damn ball.
  20. Be glad you don't live in the middle of Indian country. Their fans are insufferable.
  21. Plunk him and save three pitches (I know the rule, I'd plunk him anyway.) 😉
