  1. And next year the Tigers won't have Skubal or Mize. Say what you want about Mize, but he has been their 2nd best starter for the last few years. Valdez is going to age about as well as Cabrera did. Jobe is coming back from a serious injury, Melton is hurt, Olson's career is over. Flaherty will be back amd I'm sure Verlander will try to pitch another year if they will let him. I could see them fighting it out with the Royals for last place the next few years. They had the two year run of making the wildcard and it might be back to rebuild time.
  2. Exactly. If you are going to fill your roster up and give 350 ABs to guys like Zack McKinstry, Wenceel Pérez, Jahmai Jones etc you might as well just be resigned to the fact you are going to suck. Roster construction matters and Harris sucks at it. Honestly, one or maybe 2 guys of the Tigers 9 offensive regulars would play on Milwaukee. And they have a better pitching staff to boot.
  3. Because a home run gives you instant scoring. You don't need to rely on stringing two or three hits together by punch and judy hitters.
  4. The problem was the players available and that they probably didn't want to come to Detroit.
  5. McGonigle is a nice little hitter but isn't going to provide any power. He's on pace for 7 home runs. He's not going to be a game changer, especially with a bunch of guys who can't hit around him. The only reason I didn't like the Valdez signing is He's an average guy who relies on ground balls coming to a team with very limited range and defensive ability in the infield.
  6. I am of the mindset that players win games amd managers lose them. Just look at last year's game 7 in the world series where Schneider overmanaged his team into a loss. I know Hinch and Harris want to win with a bunch of fringe and role players to prove how they are next level genius, but it's not happening. Talent is the key factor in winning.
  7. I think Hinch's brilliance had a lot to do with garbage can lids.
  8. The lack of power is very concerning. It'll carry over to next year. Greene hasn't hit for much power this season. Dingler has solid power. Carpenter is not healthy enough to rack up a goodly number of home runs. Torkelson has power but it's tough to stay in the lineup with a .190 average. Everyone else on the roster will struggle to get to 10. Harris has constructed a roster with punch and judy hitters who, for the most part, have trouble even hitting singles. You can't consistently win with a roster constructed like that.
  9. But I was told Hinch is the most brilliant manager in baseball.
  10. Ramirez could be a HOFer just based on his games against Detroit. The offense is still on Harris. He hasn't added one solid bat since he's been the GM. But thank goodness we used the $13 million on Verlander and $30 million on Valdez. Terrible signings
  11. Working the count is overrated. Starters are done after 5 anyway and usually the bullpen is full of guys going all out for one inning Go up there hacking, Tork
  12. I will bet JV doesn't come back until after the all star break. Not like they actually want him back anyway.
  13. A home run contest to decide the game....kind of as ludicrous as soccer having a shootout at the end...not that I watch soccer or care about it at all.
  14. Its all about getting the games over quicker. Maybe play an extra inning and call it a tie? You could have a new pitcher stat, ties if you were the guy in the 10th inning.
  15. I've worked for several companies and think people are a bit wiser on what they say, but I don't really talk to any co-workers about personal matters or see any of them outside of work. I am 100% all business at work, and I work with about 75% women and the other 25% are IT developers...the majority have zero social skills, so I just keep to myself. But as I mentioned, when I worked at the casino sexual innuendo and straight harassment was the rule rather than the exception. I was a 22 year old fresh meat dealer just paying my way through college and could have went to HR every night to complain about inappropriate comments or actions from the women supervisors and managers. I imagine the male supervisors were just as bad to the younger female dealers
  16. He's looking good for free agency. If he keeps this up he will get a nice contract from a contender for next season.
  17. You would think with all the examples of people losing their jobs from sexual harassment or whatever term you want to use, they would be a bit wiser. I have to think since the Bill Clinton era that it is common knowledge that this kind of stuff usually comes back to bite you.
  18. The Detroit Tigers were the last team without an Intentional walk this season.
  19. Will anyone on the roster get to 20 HRs by the end of the season? It seems like Dingler will I'm starting to think only Dingler, Carpenter, Torkelson, and Greene will even get to 10.
  20. Maybe they can get the little Caesar's logo on the front.
  21. I think a lot of these players are playing at the level of their talent. Maybe they just playing above their skill level before.
  22. Max Anderson doesn't have the power to play 1st base. And the Tigers need Torkelson. If he doesn't improve, the Tigers aren't making the playoffs. So they might as well ride it out for the season and then decide what to do with him in the off season.
  23. The Tigers have their new ace going for them tonight. Let's go Keider
  24. It's crazy how a guy like Paddack just keeps getting chance after chance after failing miserably constantly. But Verlander might he back this season, so the Tigers still have a guy who can give up 6 or 7 runs in 3 innings
  25. Because Hinch is still at least 4x as smart as anyone else in the history of baseball. Don't think so? Just ask him.
