  1. because it is the ultimate grift and he is the ultimate grifter.
  2. I share your characterization, but the fact that it was often unpleasant didn't mean I didn't learn a lot of things I needed to!
  3. As families get smaller and live social contacts keep decreasing in US society, I think socialization in school just gets more important. I suppose in a large family (which many home schoolers are) that's less a concern, but where does a kid learn to function in any kind of group setting if he's a home schooled only child? Nothing is impossible and nature may overcome any nurture, but it can't make it easier.
  4. If this is true you can take it to the bank Hinch isn't having him come here and I don't see any way Harris brings in a player over that kind of objection by his manager.
  5. no argument. With the new TB rule, you need even less time for only 35 yds
  6. now, if the Tigers can just get there with hitters. I came across some fan posts criticizing the Yankees org - complaining that when Judge slumped Boone and the Yankees just waited and compared it to when Freddy Freeman slumped with the Dodgers and they had all kind of analysis/help for him (I don't know the Freeman case so can't speak to how true it is, but apparently the perception is out there).
  7. I can see that. We saw it here with Justin and Max. And probably more so now with Judge having not performed well in the playoffs and Soto tearing it up.
  8. Putin's Russia. Everybody votes but it's strictly for show. Only Vladdy gets to count the votes.
  9. Right. Speaking of MS, they have some up with another new one that also really frosts me. At some point since the release of W11 they made Bitlocker the standard install. That's not that hard to turn off but bitlocker uses the little 16M hidden partition that MS used to install on any windows system drive. But now that bitlocker is standard, the windows disk manager will write the 16M hidden partition to every drive it thinks is empty - again, on start up of the disk manager and without ever asking. The problem is DM is too stupid to recognize some linux disk arrays and so corrupts them willy-nilly. So the work around is you can never start DM if you have a dual boot box, if you need to change the drive letter on a disk you have to use Diskpart from the command line. Unacceptable.
  10. Wasn't there a 'progress toward degree' requirement to maintain eligibility? I know - silly question.
  11. This just can not be stressed enough. A democracy depends on the public making decisions to the public good. If they either don't understand, mis-understand, or are allowed to be lied to without challenge about what is actually the public good, game over - everything collapses.
  12. well that would be a good thing!
  13. I don't know how you classify the 'earth mother' type. There is certain apparent cultural continuity to the 60's flower children but at this point it's different people and I think the motivation comes from a different place. Back in the day there was a set of beliefs that the earth/environment somehow had an inherent nurturing nature, so letting nature take it's course was always best. Of course that is a view that can only be expressed by children of privilege who were sheltered from ever actually experiencing nature's tooth, claw, and utter disinterest in the maintenance of human existence. Today's antivax types are more of a conspiratorial bent. The drug companies are making profits by not caring that they're giving our babies autism by mercury poisoning. So it's not even part of the same philosophy as the old hippy trope.
  14. Jeez. I hate all them all trying to tell me how to manage my files. I have my files, I have my filespaces in various places, I have sync software that puts what I want where I want it. It anybody messes with that it's the end of the business relationship. The other day I started up Windows backup just to see if anything was different in 24H2 and it started writing files to one-drive before it ever gave me a chance to configure what I might have wanted (end the end - zero). They can all go pound sand.
  15. sounds like a dog that brings you coffee.
  16. For starters they should not have re-signed Kane with Debrincat already on the team and Berggren being the next call-up. It was an add of something they already had way too much of - small forwards who don't play 200 ft and the money should have been used on something else. Not to mention that Kane isn't even Kane this season - 36 was apparently his 'sell by'. And whoever recommended Motte needs to sent to Medicine Hat on a one way ticket. We all know the wings are too small and play crappy D and Yzerman keeps deciding that more of that is somehow the answer. And at $6.25M Petry is also stealing their money every night. A terrible acquisition at his price and age. Those two alone are depressing sucking up $10M in cap - it reeks of a FO unable to find talent trying to gnaw the bones of old familiar players, more out of misplaced hope than FO acumen. I absolutely hate to see a team bringing in other teams' old discards. Never a winning formula.
  17. LOL - took me way too long to get it and I was trained to be a chemist who does plumbing (i.e. Chemical Engineer, )
  18. that one and the paypal phishing e-mails are getting crazy.
  19. I just wish the interface weren't getting progressively worse.
  20. hard to justify anything going on with the Wings unless we are looking at a stealth tank.
  21. I went to one Lions' game at Tiger Stadium on a wintry day - absolutely terrible. And to my thinking, you may not even want a half roof on an outdoor football stadium if it's just going to make the wind whip around on the inside more - getting the design right is critical. At Michigan stadium at least you might get the sun shinning on you on a cold day (the one nice thing about the student section being the north end zone!).
  22. Purdy not looking too pretty.
  23. probably why Goff loves playing for Campbell.
  24. I want to know more about how Savant does IF arms - esp the avg velo number. They seem to just take all throws, but if so that's a pretty meaningless number. A good fielder that comes up with the ball quickly shouldn't have to throw hard all the time, all that matters is how well can he get it there when he has to. I mean most guys don't play like Aurelio Rodriguez, who might just wait until the guy was half-way to 1st to uncork a 95mph throw over.
  25. old men ending up like children in the end. I can't wait to see what things will look like four years from now.....
