  1. I'm wary of reading too much into the ERod extension situation, but I definitely do think people underestimate the idea that he would stick around under the right circumstances. Especially given that the org did right by him with whatever happened in 2022 in his personal life. I do hope they work something out. He's a positive to have with this young pitching staff for a few more years.
  2. And getting maximal value means taking risks, sticking your neck out. And that comes with a downside. It's hard to strike that right balance of needing to acquire talent and not just being rolled by orgs into accepting inferior talent. It is entirely possible the Dodgers were the only ones who were offering what they felt he was worth.
  3. There you go
  4. Is this the same Lynn Henning who invented the AJ Hinch opt out clause out of thin air?
  5. I'd like to hear an explanation from JP Morosi... he had a .000 batting average this cycle
  6. Same Gorosh who was arguing to keep ERod about a month ago...
  7. Maybe most of us realized it... the folks on Twitter, OTOH
  8. The reporters are interesting and all, but I sometimes think that they can be as in the dark as we are about this stuff
  9. Maybe they weren't? The Tigers, particularly under Harris, really don't have any info leaks... I'm assuming the leak came from the Dodgers side and, subsequently, maybe they were the ones exerting the Lions share of effort to somehow make this happen.
  10. Baltimore makes a lot of sense
  11. They don't leak information easy, so it's plausible for sure. IDK what will happen, but there are other teams in the market who haven't made moves yet. We will see.
  12. Deals have been resurrected from the dead before too, hence why it can be a useful negotiating ploy. Especially for a team like the Dodgers, who are pretty desperate for pitching Not saying that happens here, obviously...
  13. If they could get him extended, I could live with it... but it really sucks if he opts out after not having the chance to move him. I do think he genuinely likes the Tigers tho
  14. Desperation in the air...
  15. And if Jack Morris were still here..... (ducks)
  16. Just let it go, man
  17. That should take care of the logjam
  18. My position on the discussion with Candelario has been pretty consistent dating back to when they made the decision. For everyone else's sake, I'm gonna get off Candy's Wild Ride now and wait to see which dominoes fall among players actually on this team right now.
  19. I think you and I both know that previous years performance tends to weigh heavily at the negotiating table. The term "contract year" exists for a reason, after all.
  20. I think Torkelson should be open for the right asking price, yes. Riley Greene is probably the only untouchable player on the roster IMO.
  21. I wasn't aware that Spencer Torkelson was up for arbitration last year.
  22. It's a fake
  23. In the context of making a non-tender decision (and knowing there were likely conversations between the Tigers and Candy's agent at the time, undoubtedly), I doubt the decision to tender or non-tender exclusively comes down to a what the projection system says. Put another way, both sides are going to use the leverage they have in a negotiation.... and Candy's most recent season being an unmitigated disaster would undoubtedly have been a point of leverage for the Tigers.
  24. Sure. But in terms of a valuation on Candy's worth, there isn't a GM in baseball who wouldn't have factored his horrendous 2022 season into the decision to tender or nontender.
