Still waiting on Chafin to be removed from the restricted list lol -
Soto would never bring back what Hader brought back, but the delta between what Scott Effross returns (Yanks Top 10 Prospect) and what Soto or Lange could bring back doesn't seem like it would be that big to me.
-
Honestly, if these are some of the returns, you probably have to listen to offers on Soto or Lange if you get any.
-
That's an eye-popping haul for Hader
-
Curious to see what the return is... Found this to be interesting as well...

The discussion about money is important as well... Jobe was underslot iirc, so how does a different pick change the subsequent rounds of the draft last year? The binary discussions about whether they should have picked "x" player instead kinda misses all of that.

He strikes me as more of the "knife and fork" type in general lol

I didn't mind the trade at the time and am indifferent to it even now, but in retrospect it was kind of incredible how much Barnhart's acquisition was treated as a tremendous step forward at the position. Not just by the team but also by the media personalities who cover them. When Rogers comes back, hopefully sometime before the end of the year, they really need to let him go

I don't doubt that the team is more profitable now than ever, but doesn't it stand to reason that it could still be even more profitable fielding a quality product? It certainly would help the value of the franchise itself which, following the Forbes rankings over the years, for the Tigers, is heavily dependent on whether it's a winning ballclub or not.

Sure enough, Cody Stavenhagen this morning on his podcast suggested that some of the execs talking to Rosenthal about Skubal may have been engaging in some gamesmanship to basically put out there that there could potentially be other options should Luis Castillo exit the market.

Thought exercise for folks: let's hypothetically say that Chris Ilitch does in fact fire Al Avila in the offseason and replaces him with someone who ends up, similar to DD, positioning this team for success in a quicker than expected time frame. Aside from the fact that it would be an instance of Chris I not learning from his dad's mistakes (which he shouldn't necessarily be forgiven for), how would that otherwise be markedly different than how his Dad's ownership was? People throw out the Chris I-WCF comparison, but to be honest, back in 2001, someone could have easily drawn the same line between Daddy Pizza and WCF as well.

I'm younger than most on this board in all likelihood and really started watching and being cognizant of this team around 1996-1997. Those early years, deep in Mike Ilitch's first few years of ownership, was my introduction to this franchise. I am appreciative of everything that came after 2003, the run to the series in 2006 and the dominance of the early oughts, but I won't ever forget those first few years watching this team. It was as bad, if not worse, as it is now. I agree with you on Avila needing to be shown the door, obviously. But the bigger thing is point is that the owner only matters insofar that he is signing checks for someone who knows what they are doing. David Glass, who was a terrible owner, hired Dayton Moore, who was the right guy at the right time for the KC Royals, and that was enough to win a WS. That's it. Owners really are only as good as the personnel they hire. As his dad proved, moving on from bad personnel can change the entire outlook.

In other words, prior to his dad hiring DD, he was his son. I dont know if Pizza Jr. will ever figure it out, but his Dad wasn't a Saint either, particularly for those of us who don't care as much about the hockey side of the business. The franchise was arguably worse when DD took over then than it is now, and Senior deserves credit for that.

William Clay Ford's problem wasn't ignorance... Plenty of ignorant owners have won championships over the years in the four major sports. Georgia Frontiere and David Glass come to mind. And lack of confidence isn't a factor either. He just didn't want to fire his buddy. Ilitch Sr. Wasn't much better for this franchise on that front until he hired DD. And in present day, we are kinda left hoping that hiring AJ serves a similar purpose lol

Mariners using a 30 year old making his ML debut in the 10th inning of a tie ballgame against the Astros. May we interest you in one Joe Jimenez?

One thing that probably hurts Skubal's market? The fact that the Red Sox and Giants now appear postured as sellers at this deadline. Adds guys like Eovaldi and Rodon to the market, one would think

Watching the Astros-Mariners game right now and reminded that the Astros announcer, Todd Kalas, is the son of Harry Kalas, who did radio for the Phillies and was the voice of NFL Films for years. Like his dad, he has the deep voice and is pretty enjoyable to listen to -
I wonder if CBS still invites this chud onto the Face the Nation? Vile

Not AJ's style to be this explicit, but they earned it today! -
Still think that the best overall pairing for a Skubal trade are the Cards. They really could use Skubal, and they have a lot of what the Tigers do not have in terms of major league or cusp of major league bats. But I dont think it's happening, not should it

The Tigers should be on Peacock more often, makes it so much easier to avoid watching lol -
