Still think Passan's blurb was interesting and advanced things a little more beyond what Rosenthal reported yesterday (ie. price exorbitant, multiple GMs expect him to move). Anonymous execs have been wrong before and may have their own motives for talking to the press tho.

It's definitely a case of tradeoffs as well... Luis Castillo or Frankie Montas may be better options, but they are also controllable for a much shorter period of time. Using the Cards again because they seem like a really good fit (at least to me), they could value Skubal's youth and controllability over a longer period of time, especially given the size of the market that they play in, the fact that their most useful starters (Wainwright, Mikolas) are guys who are closer to the end than the beginning, and just how they have generally operated in acquiring players over the years.

No, but I do believe there are clubs who would pay more than an 27 y/o oft-injured, past prospect status outfielder. And there are at least a couple of contenders out there where you could easily see Skubal penciled in and getting postseason starts. Cardinals come to mind, especially with all of their injuries and general mediocreness of their starting pitching

If, to borrow Jeff Passan's term, the expectation is that the price for Skubal is expected to be "exorbitant", I don't think Skubal for Kyle Lewis is gonna get it done.

I agree with a lot of what Chas said, but a lot of it depends on how much a team believes in Skubal as well. Even among competitive ballclubs, there isn't a "one size fits all" view on any player, whether it be Skubal or anyone else. Because every GM and every front office is different and values different things. (EDIT: Some of it may depend on how a ballclub builds their roster as well; someone like Skubal makes a lot of sense to a smaller market competitive club who values controllability and affordability over the long term.) Put another way, one GM of a competitive franchise looking to add a starter may feel he is too inconsistent, but another one may feel differently, or may place a high value on the fact that he is controllable over a longer period of time.

If we are being honest with ourselves, Skubal being dealt at all, regardless if he were to warrant a Gorman or Pages level prospect, is gonna be seen as the beginning of another "rebuild" for the fanbase at large and will be a PR debacle. Even if there is merit to the idea of doing it in theory. The Jeff Weaver deal comes to mind.... not well recieved at the time, but it did help improve the Tigers in the long run.

Admittedly was the one instigated the conversation about Candelario being a non-tender candidate, but the best case scenario would be for him to end the season strong and to justify another year. Not because he's the greatest player in the world, but because with all of their other position player deficiencies, they really can't afford to have to be in the market for a third baseman as well.

This definitely lines up with their draft strategy this year, where they abandoned their proclivity for starting pitching in favor of hit first college bats (Jung, Gold, Graham) in the earlier rounds.

To that end, I honestly don't have much of a clue as to how other orgs view Skubal. Probably colored a bit by my skepticism to Avila, it seems almost likely to me that the Tigers would have a higher view of Skubal's talent than outside orgs would, which means they probably wouldn't get an offer worth making a trade. But that's pure speculation and others may disagree. As an aside, this broad and largely negative reaction to Rosenthal's article is amusing given some of the commentary after Skubal's rough stretch last month, where (iirc) the common reaction seemed to be that Skubal was turning back into a pumpkin. I tend to think he projects to be a front of rotation guy, but he's still young and a five game stretch of bad starts will happen to guys as they are developing.

I agree with this. My point in highlighting the case in the NPR article from Texas has nothing to do with Jim Harbaugh or adoption, but it has more to do with the fact that these are direct consequences of what ending Roe V Wade has done. We basically have established law down here where doctors are risking civil or criminal liability all by using their judgment as to where the line between a child being viable or not viable is. And as much as we're told "the politicians will figure out the details", having lived here for 10 years, I can assure you that they will not fix this and, if anything, are probably good with it. Whether you agree or disagree with Roe falling, this is a direct consequence of it. Pretending it isn't happening doesn't change that
