My own guess is that the two best suitors for both Chafin and Fulmer are the Mets and Blue Jays respectively, both of whom are angling for players on the Cubs (Ian Happ, Willson Contreras) who in theory could be packaged with relievers as well. One would hope that there would be movement whenever that unwinds, but it's still unsettling that theoretically both teams could resolve their needs without availing themselves of the Tigers BP options. Which could be used as yet another piece of evidence of Al getting played.

All the reporting thus far suggests that there hasn't been much of a market for Jimenez. But who knows, maybe that changes in the next eight hours. -
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/08/tigers-trade-rumors-tarik-skubal-andrew-chafin.html Don't know if Petzold has any inside info on this or if it's just speculation, but it is interesting nonetheless.

One of the beat writers suggested that the trade that the Braves was the only offer they were getting for Grossman's services, likely reflecting losing Adam Duvall for the year and being reliant on Eddie Rosario who has poor splits against lefties. Garbage is too hot of a term, but let's not gild the lilly on Grossman's performance either; the fact that there was only one team interested and that he brought back a lottery ticket tells one a lot about how teams view him.

Houston traded Jake Odorizzi for Will Smith last night, which probably reduces odds of a Greg Soto trade one would think
-
As we all know, he used a razor and he used to slice the garlic so thin that it would liquefy in the pan with just a little oil. It was a very good system
-
Yep, Anglin is the classic "lottery ticket" type player. And Grossman was a player who the Tigers were lucky they didn't have to DFA. I know we have the precede all discussions with a "five minutes hate" about Avila around here, but in general, don't have much to complain about in just getting someone for Grossman

Didn't have Hill on my bingo card. Would love to know why it wasn't Derek Law lol -
Stove is boiling lol

I don't think Soto ever gets a Hader return, but honestly, the return that Effross got back suggests to me that he'd return something nice if someone wants him.

Still waiting on Chafin to be removed from the restricted list lol -
Soto would never bring back what Hader brought back, but the delta between what Scott Effross returns (Yanks Top 10 Prospect) and what Soto or Lange could bring back doesn't seem like it would be that big to me.
-
Honestly, if these are some of the returns, you probably have to listen to offers on Soto or Lange if you get any.
-
That's an eye-popping haul for Hader
-
Curious to see what the return is... Found this to be interesting as well...

The discussion about money is important as well... Jobe was underslot iirc, so how does a different pick change the subsequent rounds of the draft last year? The binary discussions about whether they should have picked "x" player instead kinda misses all of that.

He strikes me as more of the "knife and fork" type in general lol

I didn't mind the trade at the time and am indifferent to it even now, but in retrospect it was kind of incredible how much Barnhart's acquisition was treated as a tremendous step forward at the position. Not just by the team but also by the media personalities who cover them. When Rogers comes back, hopefully sometime before the end of the year, they really need to let him go

I don't doubt that the team is more profitable now than ever, but doesn't it stand to reason that it could still be even more profitable fielding a quality product? It certainly would help the value of the franchise itself which, following the Forbes rankings over the years, for the Tigers, is heavily dependent on whether it's a winning ballclub or not.

Sure enough, Cody Stavenhagen this morning on his podcast suggested that some of the execs talking to Rosenthal about Skubal may have been engaging in some gamesmanship to basically put out there that there could potentially be other options should Luis Castillo exit the market.

Thought exercise for folks: let's hypothetically say that Chris Ilitch does in fact fire Al Avila in the offseason and replaces him with someone who ends up, similar to DD, positioning this team for success in a quicker than expected time frame. Aside from the fact that it would be an instance of Chris I not learning from his dad's mistakes (which he shouldn't necessarily be forgiven for), how would that otherwise be markedly different than how his Dad's ownership was? People throw out the Chris I-WCF comparison, but to be honest, back in 2001, someone could have easily drawn the same line between Daddy Pizza and WCF as well.
