  6. I think the bigger problem is that third party votes don't really have a lot of value in a first past the post system, particularly when votes are allocated by the Electoral College. I doubt Amash changes that. I would love to have a voting system similar to France where it's based on popular vote and subject to a runoff when the top vote getter is below 50%... it would ensure more options for the public and that whoever wins would be the consensus choice. But that will not happen here.
  7. Situation: 2 Men On, 2 Out, Bot 7th, Baltimore up 2-1, Lance Lynn wavering having thrown over 100 pitches, White Sox pitching coach Ethan Katz at the mound for a visit. Orioles Announcer Kevin Brown: "So, is this a wise move to stay with Lynn here versus a pitching change?" Orioles Color Commentator Jim Palmer: "Probably not." Result: Infield Single, HBP, Pitching Change (Jose Ruiz), Bases clearing double, 6-1 Orioles More brilliant managing from Tony L
  8. Again, people need to realize that not every election is gonna have the perfect candidate in it. Most dont, tbh. And the fact that it doesn't have the perfect candidate doesn't mean that it is worthless to participate in it. That doesn't mean that pressure shouldn't be applied to candidates to do what they can to advance an agenda or to be better, but when the rubber meets the road, in any election, you get to live with one of the two people for 2/4/6 years. And it stands to reason that people should want a say in who that person is. Regardless of how good or bad the options are.
  9. Idk about that... are all those corps that have relocated to Texas or Florida gonna just leave over this? Maybe a few employees start looking elsewhere. But I doubt it is much. People generally don't move purely for political reasons and I doubt that changes here.
  10. "We need to overturn Roe so the US can more closely resemble France...." Also:
  11. Cisneros made a good effort. I probably would have voted for her tbh. But the Speaker of the House isn't why she didn't win enough votes in arguably the most consequential part of the district. And tbh, I don't know if she would win in November... that part of Texas is culturally quite conservative
  12. Have you considered that Cisneros lost because her message did not resonate with much of the district that she represents? Particularly those living in Laredo and along the border? People talk as if the Democratic Party is magically pulling strings to get candidates elected, yet at the end of the day, it's the voters who ultimately decide these elections. It was the same damn thing when Biden won the nomination.... for some reason, people seem to just want to marginalize the views or feelings of the voters who maybe aren't hard core progressives and just treat them as sheep being herded by the national party.
  13. As I've gotten older, I've realized that most elections are like this for me. Depending on which primary ticket I take (because, if we are honest, taking the D ticket is a waste of influence in most elections where I live) I may end up choosing between two candidates I agree with on just about nothing because one is clearly better than the other at least temperamentally. Because whether I love either candidate is beside the point... I'm gonna spend the next four years living with one of them, and I want a say in which one it is. When the Texas State Rep. who was made famous isn't year for putting together the list of books to ban decided to run for DA in my county, it was my duty to go out and vote against him in both the primary and the runoff. Not because I loved his opponents (trust me I dont), but because the alternative did something deserving of being retired (which he was). In other countries you see this as well... in France, where many political parties do not see eye to eye with the current government, what did almost all of them do when they were eliminated and it became a choice between Macron and Le Pen? They put down their swords, sucked it up, and worked to ensure Le Pen did not win. Somewhere along the way, and I remember this from when I first started voting, it was sold as this idealistic thing... but the reality is that it isnt. The experience of living where I live has driven that home... sometimes you have to choose options you do not like. Democracy isn't sunshine and rainbows where there's always a perfect choice on the ballot.
  14. "Its got a chance".... 😆
  15. Nobody hits 450'+ jacks like Neifi lol
  16. Did not do much there lol
  17. It wouldnt be the Democratic Party if it wasn't a circular firing squad lol
  18. Can you detail how Elizabeth Warren would have? Or Bernie? Or another D? The dynamics of the Senate are what they are. They have a 50/50 majority that hinges basically entirely on a Senator sitting in an R 30+ state. They were lucky to even have a 50/50 majority even, it took until the Georgia runoff to get there. I dont like it anymore than you do. But literally the only answer is to elect a big enough majority where you can make these changes. Its an unsatisfying answer, but I dont know what to tell you. I wasn't the one who built this ****ty governmental system we operate in.
  19. This is spot on.... the anti-abortion stance of the party and its legacy followers is in direct conflict with the younger, more hard edged folks attracted because of Democratic "cancel culture" and excesses. (Ie. Barstool/Joe Rogan types) I dont know how much of a difference it makes, but the tension does exist
  20. One of those moments where I love living in Central time lol
