  1. Is there a 1st baseman who is worse that Tork? One who plays every day? The Tigers have been very patient with him. I doubt many teams would be so patient. His value, right now, is worth nothing. I doubt we could give him away, find a team to take on whatever his salary is? Doubtful.
  2. I dont know, I'm not a baseball executive studying analytics. People in charge of the team are responsible for success or failures of the team. The last couple of years were pretty successful but that is NO reason to try to improve. And again....hitting and scoring runs were a problem heading into the off-season. That problem wasn't addressed.
  3. You dont seem to understand. Its not the use of stats that bothers me. Its the misuse of them. What possible analytic looked at the Detroit offense from last season and said we didnt need more and better hitters to consistency score more runs? Whoever looked at this team and decided we needed pitching was....wrong. spending millions of dollars on Valdez? We would have been better off signing a corner outfielder and a DH type. But yeah, losing that argument only means we have a team thats soon to be 10 games out of 1st place. Maybe when Javy, Carp and Torres get back, we'll make a run? Or...maybe not?
  4. The off-season. We needed hitting and spent, overspent, on pitching. We. Needed. Hitting. We. Signed. Pitching. Doesn't analytics say a team needs to score runs? Kinda basic baseball, no?
  5. They need a field manager because that's who you blame when a team goes south. NOT that I want Hinch fired but managers in general. They're hired to be fired, eventually. The buck stops with the skipper. You can't, fire 25 guys (26), as the old expression goes. A managers main job is the lineup card and pitching changes. Not scoring any runs and keep sending Short out there? Some people might say that's negligence and a firable offense. 😚😚
  6. Short term, huh? What did the Tigers have? A 15 game lead last August? Yeah, there were pretty obvious hitting (and scoring runs) problems. So we went out and signed...pitching and ignored the most obvious and bigger needs....because....analytics? I guess we can see who lost that argument....the fans. But it's OK...we'll win the division because....again...analytics say so. Stay the course and keep running out the same guys every day. Un-huh. And BTW? Who said anything about firing Hinch or Harris? We made the playoffs 2 years in a row and even won a couple of series. But making the team better is a goal that many would like to see.
  7. Mostly agree. If they can, find somebody with more upside than Jung though. If not, totally agree. This was something that should have been addressed last off-season, our collapse should have been enough of a reason to acquire some better bats.
  8. Analytics arent working. Maybe theyll win an occasional game or so but long term? Playing the platoon of using Short and an ineffective Tork will get basically the same results as the last 60 games or so. We are we, about 40 games under .500 since last fall? How much data is needed?
  9. So put Keith at 3rd...Lee at 2nd. And find a 1st baseman...Toledo or a trade? Waiver wire? Shake. Things. Up. No more Tork...no more Perez and no more Short.
  10. I don't care so much for ever using Short at...short (😁). I say use McGonigle at SS and either Zach, Keith or Lee at 3rd. Even with a LH SP against us, Zack or Keith have better chances of getting on base. My shakeup attempt would have Zack in RF, Keith at 1st base, the kid at SS and Lee at 3rd. We need a 2nd baseman from Toledo?? The heck with the lefty-righty splits, it's obviously not working. And Tork needs some time down in Toledo. So Perez, Tork and Short benched. Addition by subtraction.
  11. Is this his quote from last September? Or recent? It could be either....
  12. Run the same lineup out there and expect different results? Or shake things up and try to send a message? Bench Tork? Sit Perez? And please....no more Short.
  13. Who? Javy? Carpenter? The problem is mostly scoring runs, our pitching has kept us in most games. I agree, it's not on Hinch. We need a RH power hitting RF or DH. We didnt address our September drop-off in the winter and it seems to have carried over. Edit; oh, and it's time for Tork to make a Toledo visit.
  14. Philadelphia fired their manager and now they are red hot! Coincidence?
  15. Can't argue with that. Some of these Tiger games are unwatchable.
  16. Riley, McGonigle and.....Dingler?
  17. 4 runs might as well be 100 runs with this Tigers offense.
  18. Is it because Valdez is a ground ball pitcher and he wants his best IF defense? That is my only guess. We need to score runs and Short is pretty useless.
  19. Next year, Mize, Skubal and Flaherty may all be gone. JV may be pretty much done, he's a huge question mark. Looking at a trade Dombrowski made over 15 years ago doesn't make much srnse, Harris doesnt make many deals. And trading cost controlled pitchers is not something he'll do. Yes, we may have a surplus but that means Hinch may only use pitchers who are effective. If so, Bye-Bye Jack.
  20. Harris hasn't really made many significant trades. Small deals and waiver wire pickups, mostly. It would be nice to find a CF player who can actually hit. Or maybe a RF hitter. A RH DH? We need to start hitting and scoring runs. Trading pitching could be dangerous....too many injuries happen. DFA Flaherty....addition by subtraction?
  21. I predicted July 1st. Maybe it'll be even sooner? Mid-June?
  22. Lol...never trade pitching. I mean, who? Mize? You wont get much for a pending FA. Melton? Untouchable. Flaherty? Lol...you try to trade him...at his salary and his results? He's worthless.
