  1. Javy or Vierling. If Meadows tanks, they would be the placeholders until Max Clark is ready. Prolly in 2027, if there's ever baseball and no lockout.
  2. Many of us said they wouldn't sign with Detroit because we were too cheap. We were wrong.
  3. Riley had injuries his first few years but has seemed to overcome them. And I remember, years ago, the Tigers giving up on a young Carlos Pena. And he went on to hit a massive amount of home runs....for other teams. Parker is going into his age 26 season. Giving up on his defense and speed right now may be a huge mistake. Give him every opportunity to succeed. If not, we have other options.
  4. Correct. Its human nature...with higher expectations comes greater disappointment. But this pitching staff, if it remains somewhat healthy, may take us on a deep and fun playoff run. And we also seem to have some depth, Harris has done a really good job of building a very good starting pitching staff as well as, what could be, a shutdown bullpen. With 3 relief pitchers, who all had 20+ saves last season, we may be able to shorten games up. Get a lead after 6 innings and a high % of the games will end up in the win column. Let's go!!
  5. I have to admit I was wrong about Chris Ilitch being cheap. Harris said when he approached Chris about the prospect of possibly signing Valdez, Chris was really excited, fired up and "as passionate as it gets." If true, I couldn't have been more wrong. And glad I was 100%wrong.
  6. Because Meadows is still a really young player? And his defense is outstanding. As well as his speed, the guy is a racehorse. Sometimes it takes a few years for young players to "figure it out." Giving up on him too soon could be a mistake. But I agree, if he doesn't hit, at least a little, he may not stick around too long. We'll see, there are other CF options, if need be.
  7. OMG....LOL funny. The Trump administration is rolling back pollution regulations...including car tailpipe emissions. The article I'm reading said multiple agencies are taking the case to court, including EarthJustice, an environmental group and The American Lung Association. Trump's reply? "Don't worry about it." Seriously, what an uneducated idiot. No sugar coating it, the man is a complete fool and he's putting millions of lives in serious danger. From not just the air we breathe but also serious climate disasters. We need to elect democrats at the midterms to impeach this idiot and his entire corrupt administration.
  8. I don't have any stat to back this up, just a (failing) memory but it seems like Jack had many starts where he would give up multiple runs in an inning after throwing several innings and not giving up any runs. I never thought it was mental or lack of concentration but yeah, you make a good point.
  9. Maybe there wasn't people on this message board saying we'll get the same JV as the 2011 JV but I've been hearing some casual fans (and un-informed media) talking with unrealistic expectations. Verlander is 43 years old for goodness sake. He's not a crafty leftie like Professor Rogers was. He'll have flashes of his old self, hopefully. But people who really know the game know not to expect 200 innings with 200 strikeouts.
  10. Maybe he'll let Skubal know how much happier he was playing for the Tigers and how he wished he never would have left? And Skubal will SEE the love a returning hero gets coming back to Detroit? And Skubal will tell Scott Boras to take a hike? 😆
  11. How many starting pitchers do you want? We already have about 8 or so. 😅😅
  12. They gotta sell more merchandise. Different City Connect uniforms every season from now on?
  13. We just need to cherry pick stats and point out a few that Jack was better at and then somebody else can find a few Mize was better at. Its just one of the problems with stats, people use a few to bolster an argument. Basically, I dont care. I just didn’t like watching Flaherty and wondering which inning he would have a meltdown. He would look great for several innings and then suddenly give up multiple runs. Usually in a close game that would destroy any chance of winning. Mize did start out the season strong and seemed to get weaker deeper into the season. Either tired or just not used to pitching so deep into the season. It seemed like Hinch knew, he pulled him after only a few innings in a playoff game. But I'm really rooting for him to be a solid #3 this season.
  14. Was Flaherty better? JV? Mize looks like the Tigers #3 starter, if you want to compare last year's stats. I dont think Hinch trusts him too much either, quickly pulling him during a playoff start.
  15. It would be the perfect time for Mize to have an outstanding season. He could possibly make several extra millions of dollars, going into his FA year. Of course, if there's a work stoppage....
  16. So...are you saying JV is an early season favorite to win the Cy Young Award? 🤣🤣🤣
  17. #35....Justin Verlander.
  18. To be fair, many fans (and media) are dreaming about vintage JV coming back. Unrealistic expectations.
  19. Yeah, that makes sense. Maybe not to start the season but first chance he gets to reset the rotation. Except, I think it may be Mize in-between the lefties.
  20. He definitely is going to be a huge fan favorite. Sellout crowds in early season starts. If he has some success, it may continue into the summer. But what can we expect? 5 to 7 innings per start of a 4 ERA? A 125 to 150 inning season? I hope nobody expects vintage JV, they will be disappointed. But, we may see flashes of his old self. Limited flashes...
  21. Olson is out for the year with shoulder surgery. Wow, he was hurt last season and tried to rehab it without surgery. Didn't work...
  22. Last season was his first season back after fullly recovering from surgery. He was an All Star pitcher. That's his track record. Flaherty is way too inconsistent. He just seems to be going along and has an inning where he imploded. And JV has had a hall of fame career but is in his twilight. Mize is going to have a monster season. Book it...
  23. Doing the math for MAGA supporters;
  24. The main difference i see between Rogers and JV is Rogers helped influence a very young pitching staff. With the exception of Melton, who is the young guys JV can help? Do Not give advice to Takik Skubal, he's a finished product.
