  1. Elite bat to ball skills. And I hear he is a cribbage savant
  2. Lions just signed DJ Reed 3/48!
  3. Saw this on FB, pretty darn funny https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1062039925968217&id=100064866573416&post_id=100064866573416_1062039925968217
  4. Scherzer is filthy today. 6 Ks through 3 scoreless innings. If he stays healthy, that 15 mil signing could be a steal. Of course he is getting paid by 18 teams this year
  5. Yeah, that sounds like what will play out
  6. 2 dingers on 3-3 night for Tork. One dinger opposite field, something he has been working on. Also, Mize, holy cow! If his command and splitter continue on that level it will be difficult to send him down. That's as strong as I have ever seen his stuff. And Montero did struggle badly first inning, but the next 2 innings he looked good, especially his change-up. He'll be back in Toledo but I see him getting a chance in the bigs soon. Maeda, Jobe, Cobb, Mize, Montero for 2 spots. Looks like Manning and likely Montero to Toledo. Good problems to have
  7. There will likely be plenty of slot machines, roulette kiosks and blackjack tables at the stadium, next to the in-stadium brothel and burlesque stage
  8. I recall toward the end of last season, with Maeda being used for long relief, Johnny K interviewed him and he was almost apologetic about his season. You could tell he felt bad about his overall performance. He seems to be a very humble guy. I have no doubt that he put in a lot of work this off-season to prepare. He still might be done. But right now he looks like their #5 starter
  9. Learned a couple facts about Hank Greenberg today. He served more months (47) during WW2 than any other player. Also, he was offered a contract by the Yankees out of high school, and he declined and chose college instead. He was intent on playing first base, and the Yanks had Gehrig. After his freshman year of college he signed with our Tigers.
  10. It is very hypocritical imho. Mays was temporarily banned from baseball just for being a spokesman for a casino, if memory serves. The NFL is worse - most every commercial is for gambling, with the obligatory "please gamble responsibly" bs. When the billionaires see how much more profit they can make with gambling sponsorship, the ethics line gets moved accordingly.
  11. Of "An occurrence at owl creek bridge?"
  12. I go ahead and pay the $150 because I watch a lot of other games too. And I like to use a voodoo doll watching White Sox games. I take partial credit for their collapse.
  13. I know folks are joking, but, Ben Malgeri, 331 minor league (highest = AA) hits, 436 minor league Ks, .736 ops. They must see something though, for him to be in camp
  14. Fun question, very difficult to research. I attempted and got up to 1958 then stopped. Arduous and time consuming, but fun. I did learn of some former Tigers I had never heard of. Bob Hazle was an outfielder who played in 43 games with Detroit in 1958 with no Detroit card. He only had 261 lifetime at-bats and had a career BA of .310 and ops+ of 134. Didn't get much of a chance. Makes me wonder how many players through the decades could have had a decent career but they were on the bubble and didn't get much of a chance? Also saw info on Coot Veal who played infield with the Tigers in the 50s. I have a ton of Tigers cards back to the early 1900s and have never heard of Coot, but he does have Tigers cards. And I saw that Joe Coleman (father of 1970s Tigers pitcher Joe Coleman) pitched in 17 games for Detroit in 1955. No Tigers card.
  15. Vierling is out with rotator cuff strain https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/02/matt-vierling-to-start-season-on-il-due-to-rotator-cuff-strain.html
  16. Well said. Reflects my thoughts spot on. Although it's Friday and my thoughts tend to also contain pics of animals in my thoughts on Fridays. Today it's a giraffe, and what you said.
  17. Pittaro and Lovullo, both earmarked for greatness by Sparky
  18. Just saw that Denver plays the Bucks tomorrow so like Boston they'll be on a back to back. If they beat Denver I think they'll truly be the talk of the league along with Cleveland and of course LAL
  19. Mankowski is on a few cards. Basher that he was. I may have once had his autograph
  20. It's rare to see such a young team gel like this. Like a well-oiled machine. Cade's pace and poise are a pleasure to watch. "The Pistons win again!"
  21. I'll throw out a guess, Joe Coleman (senior, not the 1970s pitcher). He pitched in 17 games for Det in 1955. I'm sure there are plenty of guys who played longer but it would take too long to research
  22. Don't have a guess - been thinking about players detroit signed and then traded in the first season. No luck. My hunch is it's someone from the mid 50s. It was common for some players to not have a card in every set. Now it seems like every player and their mother has a card in some set.
  23. Both are beautiful sets, congrats!
  24. You can get cards that have small pieces of game used bats and jerseys. I have a few of those for Kaline.
