  1. This Eduardo-Will Smith battle was a beauty. Luckily the liner he laced went right out to the right fielder. Run scoring notwithstanding, not the worst outcome.
  2. To me, the difference is that the way Fetterman dresses is not a hypocritical betrayal of the way one purports to govern. It merely offends sensibilities. If I’m with the guy, I could live with that.
  3. Wow, good move.
  4. Oops, they fixed the problem. What a shame … 😁
  5. Same look for the bottom of the first, too. I like it! Game looks bigger on the screen without all the graphics. There is one graphic, though, the strike box and pitch speed. Nothing else. Nice.
  6. Wow, I don’t know what you guys are seeing, but there is a completely clean screen for the top of the first inning of this game. No score box, no crawl, no graphics of any kind. Throwback.
  7. Batting thirrrd, the big man, Miguel Cabrera.
  8. Lots of reasons Montreal got forced out of baseball: uncertainty created by fluctuating exchange rate; the worst stadium situation in baseball; weird local broadcast situation; small market size coupled with limited nationwide appeal potential across two countries; outlier with French language; and most of all, provincial and local governments totally unwilling to give them billions in tax dollars in breaks, abatements, and outright payoffs. One other thing, and I heard this from a fan at Stade Olympique, so grain of salt applies here: it’s pretty well-accepted in Quebec that Bud Selig believed he had a birthright to receive an NL expansion franchise in 1969 for Milwaukee, but he lost out on it to Montreal, he had to accept an “inferior” AL team from Seattle as a consolation prize, he never forgave Montreal for any of that, and as a result, had a personal agenda to drive the city out of baseball for good. I don’t know if I believe it on its face, necessarily, but in my opinion, it falls well within the range of plausible.
  9. Did you go to any of the World Series games in 2012 and 2006? If you went both years, did the 2012 games feel as big as 2006? I decided to not go in 2012 because i didn’t feel it as much that year and I did six years before—although during the playoffs the following year, I was definitely planning on making my way to a World Series game if we’d’ve beaten Boston.
  10. So much for the Rays moving to Montreal, I guess. I found it interesting when, last week I think, Oakland was being talked up along with Nashville as the next logical expansion franchise! I mean, I get why they would prefer to move the A's to Vegas and do the Oakland expansion team, rather than keep Oakland and expand to Vegas, because it's a humongous windfall for a guy who's already in the club. But SFO is not a top four market along with NYC, LA, and Chicago. It's a #10 market, which means it is smaller than two other former two-team DMAs, Philly and Boston. I get that Oakland has an MLB history (as does Montreal, FWTW), but fewer people in a market generally means less media revenue for both teams there, and especially the Oakland subregion which, with only 1/3 the population of the whole SFO DMA, is slightly smaller than Milwaukee, the current smallest MLB DMA. In any event, I would bet the San Francisco Giants ownership will have a lot to say about whether there should an expansion team plopped into their DMA.
  11. Absolutely this. The 2012 team had the seventh-best record in the American League. Not the seventh-best in baseball—seventh-best in the American League. Expand out to all MLB and we were tied for eleventh-best with our old buddies, the St Louis Cardinals. Twenty thirteen was far and away the best team of that era, if looking at nothing else but runs scored versus runs allowed, and it just goes to demonstrate once again the crap-shoot nature of October (and, now, November).
  12. I'll grant that funny is subjective, but also, this seems very personal for you. I really don't want to get into a public spat here. If I upset you so, then my counsel to you would be to put me on ignore. To do so, go to your own profile by clicking on your screen name next to your avatar, top right of every page. Choose "Ignored Users". Once there, in the box under "Add new user to ignore list", type "chas" and my icon should pop right up. Click on that, and you'll see three box choices: posts, messages, and mentions. Choose any or all that suit you and click Add User. That should do it. Or don't do so, as you see fit. Either way, take care and best of everything to you.
  13. I was being jocular. Are you upset? You seem to be taking this hard.
  14. I have a 40-ounce Stanley Cup! I like it better than the hockey version! 🦆🦆🦆
  15. This reads to me as though clock management was at least some of it.
  16. Maybe if they were red instead … 😉
  17. Hell yeah that’s progress!
  18. I know someone who’s available. 😁
  19. Sharp observation.
  20. Nice start for SGL. Looking at his minors numbers this year, he had elevated FIPs, including 5-plus in Toledo, mainly because he gave up great gobs of bombs. As a result, his xFIP, which is FIP adjusted back to league-average home run rate, is sub-4. I don’t know if that explains his dominating his first two starts. But it is a data point.
  21. Manning has shown flashes of Skubality, he just hasn’t been able to string together a bunch of them in a row. He’d been better of late, but it’s still fair to say that you never know which guy you’re gonna get when he starts. I’m mildly surprised to be reminded that Mize started 30 games and tossed 150 innings last year, because I think of him as being a healthcare disaster. I think his impending return will be one of the top stories going into 2024.
  22. I don’t think anyone has argued that Avila could never ever make a good pick. After all, his background is scout. The problem is he couldn’t lead the development of them, because that’s not what scouts do.
  23. Yeah, his upside here is Kevin Federline.
