  1. If anyone thinks American baseball can’t turn out exciting players, then they haven’t seen Corbin Carroll.
  2. Because he is held to no standard at all, this will promptly be filed under W, for Who Gives a Sht.
  3. If he were stateside his whole career he would not have been in the majors at 18, but he would have been as close to 4,000 hits as anyone.
  4. Yes, his pleasantness was good for fans to see, and even more so, good for the media to deal with. That alone will win him votes, I'd bet.
  5. CC has a ring and a Cy Young, plus four other top five CYA finishes. He also has six All-Star appearances and more than 3,000 strikeouts. For the sabermetric kids, he cleared the 60 bWAR threshold and his career ERA+ of 116 is certainly high enough to qualify. On top of all that, he was a pleasant personality and played his final 11 seasons as a Yankee. I think he's in first ballot next year, along with Ichiro and Billy Wagner.
  6. I didn't think Beltre was going to be unanimous but I did think he would top 98%.
  7. Which is why the whole PED thing is nothing but a cudgel to punish people who prefer to dance to their own tune than to that of Baseball and the running dog media.
  8. "FREEEEEE BIRRRRRRD!"
  9. I wonder how much the playing of first-shooter video games in which kids this guys' age take on villain roles with real-world impunity feeds some sense of invincibility among these young dumbasses.
  10. Well ... Nixon did try to make it close ...
  11. It does pass the smell test tho
  12. It's not about getting Republicans to watch the Daily Show and then turning them away from Trump. It's about getting the Democrats and independents who watch the Daily Show to get motivated to go to the polls.
  13. I love how Trump got momentarily freaked by a black guy coming up from behind him.
  14. Of course she will, because Nikki Haley is not a leader. She is a follower. If she's not explicitly following Trump like a puppy dog as a sycophant in his administration, she is following the whims of the mob whose votes she desperately craves as a measure of self-esteem.
  15. Even Obama can't campaign from the grave.
  16. Should I book it under the Yamamoto and Hader signings? 😉
  17. If only it did not make complete and total sense to the red hats ...
  18. Which is why he is shifting gears on attacking Haley herself and is now attacking anyone who might support Haley.
  19. I think of Morrissey as emblematic of the burying-crystals-in-the-garden-to-charge-them-with-the-Earth's-energy left. I should know. I had this one girlfriend ... Marianne Williamson is their candidate.
  20. Something here, in a big liberal city? Yeah, I can see that.
  21. Well, the media being the enemy of the people and all …
  22. Yeah, he's 30 and he's not going to become an on-base guy with power, but if they mitigate to the point where he's .320 vs .270 on base with the same SLG, that would work out fine.
  23. About time we started calling a spade a spade around here.
  24. Yes, and more: it’s also about the active effort to destroy the system and its government so they can solidify the whole system of grift as the permanent basis of power. By the way: nice one on the political assassinations coming from Inside the house. I got filleted on the old board eight years ago for perpetrating “Alarmist Non-sense” by suggesting that’s an example of where things would go with that guy in power. Glad to see I’m getting company on this one.
  25. I think you’re basically right, and I also think it’s more: it’s being seen to have committed to the choice, and once that happens, they can never admit they made a mistake because of how stupid it would make them look, so they double down over and over because better that everything literally go up in flames than to ever admit being wrong.
