It’s interesting to me how Britain uses red for labour and blue for conservatives, which kind of makes more sense, since red is associated with socialism and communism, which is closer to labour than to conservative.

I don’t think there’s any really great answer here, which is why I think they might hang with Tork and hope for the best for at least a few more weeks. He’s at about 50 wRC+ for the past week, which is awful, but probably not much different from what we might expect from a freely-available replacement. Maybe all he needs to do is pop a couple in the next couple of weeks and we probably won’t be talking about this much for a while.

I’ve have seen and heard a lot of demonizing of college students in general because of this—you know, those entitled little ****ers getting daddy and mommy to plunk down six figures to send them away hoping they’d get a business degree and a job that would pay them enough to get them out of the house for good and, bonus, pay for their end of life care. Who do these little snots think they are? They should go out and get a real job and see what it’s like to work in the real world for a change. Know what I mean? That’s the kind of thing I’m talking about. But probably far less than 1% of college students are even involved in these, and I just think politicians are stunting off this for likes from their base.

I think it’s really difficult for someone to overhaul his approach in the middle of a season at the major league level, and that’s even assuming he’s willing to try, which, I’m not sure exactly where Tork’s head is on that. Sending him to Toledo should probably be in the cards, but Mark Canha is the only guy on the team who can hold down first, and we’d probably have to bring up Keston Hiura, who ain’t exactly setting the International League on fire, especially lately. And how long would Tork have to stay in Toledo to get himself right? Because I don’t think it’s gonna happen in a week, and if we send him down for a week then bring him back and he’s still sucking or worse, it’s gonna make us look like an organization of chaos. It’s probably gonna take some time to fix him. Yeah, it’s a bit of a quandary, all right.

You won’t be able to use a VPN on your phone since phones typically use geolocation, but try using the VPN on a laptop. I can make that work on mine when the Tigers play Chicago teams. Also, I have VPN set up for my router and I can fool my living room Apple TV unit (although I can’t fool the basement Apple TV and I don’t know why). But if you and other Michigan residents can put a VPN on your router, you might be able to see Tigers games on your smart TV or OTT device.

Still not worried. People don’t pay attention to politics until October. Once they do, enough of them will come around. Not all, but enough. We’ve been seeing that dynamic in elections since 2018.

It's almost pointless to complain about Chris McCosky because he can't be saved, but his unabashed man-love of the players is not only unprofessional and antithetical to actual journalism, it's also creepy in a weird, stalky kind of way. My time at fantasy camps has taught me that players generally like anybody who is fawning and fanboyish with them, so he's probably well-accepted by most, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that he genuinely creeps at least some of them out.

I don't think either "throw strikes but don't give them anything to hit" nor "work the count but don't give away pitches" is contradictory in the least. A good pitcher can throw strikes without giving a hitter anything to hit, and a good hitter can work the count without giving away pitches. It's just that pitchers and hitters who aren't good are those who can't make that work. Which is why Bouton complained about it. 😁 I tend to think that Hinch is as at least as savvy as you and I when it comes to understanding that a well-hit at 'em ball results from a good process that needs to be embraced and repeated, almost regardless of the outcome.
