  1. I believe they’re getting hurt because they are trying to twist their arms and elbows into unnatural contortions to try to get swing-and-miss because any of the nine batters in any batting order can take pitchers out of the ballpark because the ball is juiced.
  2. Remember when it used to be kind of fun to see a position player pitch? Now it just makes me walk out of the ballpark.
  3. This from the front office team that put their eggs in the rebuild-through-pitching basket.
  4. I don't subscribe to PR accounts on Twitter so I wouldn't know.
  5. Who said I don't like Detroit? I didn't. I like it fine. I'm from there. Best pizza in the world, for one thing. Best potato chips on the planet for another. Also, I wasn't talking about the city.
  6. Literally all those Confederate states developed fascist Jim Crow societies post-Civil War for the expressed purpose of maintaining the social order they enjoyed under two-plus centuries of slavery, and the upper South weren’t remarkably better about it than the Deep South. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 removed the federal imprimatur on this system, but they’ve been fighting it in their own inimical way ever since. This fascism doesn’t apply only to black people, of course, but they do bear the brunt of it. Maybe MGT is right after all. They can have their own country if they want it and they are free to slip into literal second world status if they desire, but we get to keep all the military bases Gitmo-style.
  7. Albion’s Seed seems fairly similar to the book American Nations by Colin Woodard, same concept and broader in scope.
  8. You’re not thinking he’s on the inside, are you? What would be the point of the Kremlin agitating here? We’re a bunch of nobodies.
  9. Well, we’re chipping away at the moment, anyway.
  10. Maybe he’s anxious because he’s stuck in Detroit and he doesn’t want to play here? 🤷‍♂️
  11. Trade him for pitching. Either him or Kerry Carpenter. Although you'll probably get more for Baddoo.
  12. Already giving up on Austin Meadows, huh? Well, that was quick.
  13. Imagine this is Illinois and the state legislature expels a Republican lawmaker for taking to the floor with a bullhorn shouting pro-life slogans. Fox News would practically jizz their pants at the gift, then direct their hosts to have a non-stop harry conniption over it indefinitely. And rightfully so, to a point.
  14. This is like fascist middle school.
  15. I regard RatkoVarda’s statement as discrete, not associative.
  16. Peter Meijer must have a plan to steal the election, because unless he is now living in a history-free bubble, he’s willfully forgetting how MAGA candidates have been getting crushed for a few elections now.
  17. Red hats think Trump cares deeply about them because their media tell them every day how deeply Trump cares about them. Garbage in, garbage out.
  18. This skit ran on SNL just this past Saturday, and it is an instant classic.
  19. You're right, because as we have seen here before, the wooing of underage girls is a feature in some evangelical strains, not a bug. Beyond that, I wonder whether it's a 50-50 proposition that, if he were caught with child porn, or even if there were video evidence of him, like ... you know ... it would be caught and killed, and not just by the Enquirer. Can you imagine the immense damage to the entire institution of the Presidency, and to the legitimacy of the United States as a world leader, were something like that revealed? And if you think that something like that would never, could never, reflect on the presidency because it would be only a Trump thing, then I would think you're not giving enough credit to the worldwide agents of chaos.
  20. I still think Jonathan Schoop would have to have an utter Nate Colbert-style collapse for the Tigers to simply eat the remaining million-plus per month at any point during the season and call it a day. It's not even close to confirmed that his career is actually toast, which is what it would take, and really, he can slot into three different positions on the field if needed. The Tigers are going to give him every chance to shake out of his year-plus malaise, at least until at least end of July. If we can't move Schoop by the deadline—certainly a very possible outcome seeing that it's only contenders who would have any reason to be interested—I could see his playing time drastically curtailed afterward and his tenure with the Tigers grinding to an ignominious end. At that point, he'll either move on to the Nationals/A's/Rockies/Marlins/similar; go play in Asia, perhaps Korea; or return to the Orioles for one last hurrah (or at least one last "huh?!") as the Devil They Know to close out his career. After that, Jonathan Schoop will probably spend the rest of his life in Curacao, perhaps amusing himself by diving into a swimming pool filled with his money to start each day. One can certainly imagine a worse fate.
  21. Well, as you know, anything he says, Trump doesn't have to prove it—he merely has to say it.
  22. I think the current hope is that JHM learns 3B and becomes our everyday guy there, although because of his clanky glove that might be a bit of a pipe dream and may not still be operative by the All-Star break. Although he did have at least one tweetable moment there this week:
  23. “Your honor, I ask that you strike all references to my client’s so-called “threats” about tearing off the victim’s head and shitting down his neck, as it will tend to unfairly prejudice the jury against my client, inflame passions, prevent a fair trial, and taint any resulting verdict—he was totally joking and that had absolutely nothing to do with the victim’s unfortunate and completely-unrelated decapitation and impersonation of a toilet.”
  24. The only thing that gives me pause about Jake in terms of career longevity is that he’s already practically 28, and there aren’t many catchers that are really effective after 30. Flip side, he just spent a whole year not catching, which could help his longevity profile a little. But still, I wouldn’t pass on the best-player-left-is-a-catcher toward the top of the draft to save that spot for Jake for the rest of the 2020s.
