It's wild. I feel like people think I'm saying Shep is better than Benetti, when it's clearly the opposite of that.

Totally. There's so much empty space to fill during a baseball game that isn't there in basketball, which is why a guy like Shep works in the later so much better than the former.

I think you're right, but even if you're not, so what? It's a long-overdue honor that will be fun to watch. I'm not sure why so many people are so motivated to ascribe bad intentions to a good action.

IMO, Shep's biggest issue was that he's just way to intense of a person to call baseball games. He doesn't seen capable of dialing it down below, say, 7 out of 10, and the majority of a typical baseball game sits between 3-6 on that scale. His natural setting is calling basketball games, which he's quite good at, I think.
