Totally. Just initially, BP days or BP openers strike me on the face of it — which is often deceptive — as operating out of an admission of weakness rather than an affirmation of strength, but I know this is not logical and I need to get over it. It is in fact, very smart. Actually, what the Tigers are doing is like in the American Revolution where we at times wore down the British troops in something resembling guerrilla warfare by refusing to fight the enemy on their terms instead fought them on our own where these tactics were a part of a larger strategy. So BP days or openers are great. I just wish they weren’t necessary.

I can’t see any practical reason aside from sentimentality to acquire JV. He’s been gone for eight years. That’s a lot of water under the bridge. I still have affection for the guy, but he doesn’t seem like one of our own anymore. But if he entered the Hall of Fame as an Astro, it would be very painful. I’m suffering from pitching chaos fatigue. What is demanded of pitchers now blows their arms out. You can’t demand that they stop throwing so hard or throwing sliders. Expanding the roster so you have more relievers is a Band-Aid solution but I don’t know if there is any solution.
