The set decorator of Cheers negotiated a deal where he got a royalty.  The bosses were not happy about that. Made good money for 10 years plus probably residuals.

When I was a kid I used to watch Emergency. I had to watch it on the little black and white because my mom couldn't stand the constant sirens. 50 years later, I watch reruns of the show and still remember the dialogue. Not saynig the acting was top notch. Their portrayal of women was obsolete, but still loved that show. That show was extremely influential in people wanting to become paramedics. That show actually saved lives. And Randolph Mantooth is a cool name ! R.I.P. Johnny Gage.

I just saw that! Several of the people I know who became EMTs, did so because of that show. May he RIP.

I guess he and Kevin Tighe remained very close friends the rest of their lives.   When Mantooth's ranch had a fire and Mantooth rushed there, Tighe was already there saving some of the animals.

Mantooth did quite a few of his own stunts too,  I think Tighe did too.  They walked away with some injuries too.  If it was close enough to see their faces it was them.

At first the LAFD did not want anything to do with paramedics.   The resented them, but  some of the higher-ups realized things were evolving and FD's would have to do more than put out fires (since fire prevention had improved so much).   After Emergency came out thousands of people around the country wanted to become paramedics but had no place to apply, but after a couple seasons of the show medical training exploded for fire and rescue personnel - a direct result of the show.     So it's possible you or someone you know may have been saved because that show was around.

RIP Sam Neil.

Great actor.  I believe the first time I saw him was as Damian in the third Omen movie.  A weird benchmark despite other memorable roles.

Nothing good happens on a motorcycle at 4:30 AM.

Eddie Vedder took a liking to Glen Hansard many years ago.  He opened for many Eddie solo shows and was on stage with Pearl Jam often.

Sad.  He became a father for the first time just a few years ago.

I would not have guessed he was 80 but u also forget it started like 27 years ago.

What's surprising is that in the show Big P*ssy and Tony were supposed to be friends, very close in age, but Vinny was 15 years older than James Gandolfini, but man, James looked a lot older than he was.     He was only 38 when The Sopranos started.

I don’t know about the time, but I’m thinking of Duane Allman and Berry Oakley

And I’m missing a chunk of my leg because of a motorcycle accident.

don't know about Oakley but Allman's accident was during the day in traffic.

Berry's was nearly in the same spot as Duane's and also not overnight as he hit a city bus.  He walked away, initially, but died a few hours later.  They were also the same age.

I've seen speculation that Oakley was not in a good place when he died and that may have contributed. I have no view on that, but Allman's death seemed purely accidental.

Hayden Panettiere 36 probably died from an overdose. She had Narcan on hand that can reduce a death from opioids, but apparently she was too high to use it.

She was a child star and had a lot of attention her entire life. I have really fond memories of her from the 2016 interactive video game Until Dawn I played 10 years ago with my son when he was 14 and it was a real bonding experience for him and me so this feels sort of personal in a unusual sort of way.

Her filmography list on Wikipedia is extensive for someone so young. She was strikingly beautiful, but also had a kind of inner spark and sense of presence that was infectious in a good way. I guess you never know what other people are going through. Maybe this is a lesson about cutting other people some slack

I used Vicodin for 2 years - every day.   Now, I didn't abuse it.  I took the number I was supposed to (3 per day, but I took them all in the evening after work), but I understand how one can get hooked on opioids.  You get that inner euphoria feeling from it -- that warmth deep down in your chest, but also, for me, it allowed me to do normal things without back pain like walking my dog.  Doctor cut me off because I was only masking the pain and not fixing the problem.  I went through a profound depression for a couple of weeks, but I wasn't willing to do anything illegal to get more (and I didn't have the money).     I started using Kratom a decade ago and it  helped - and they kept making it stronger and boy am I hooked on that - and they are making the strong stuff illegal now and I am slowly weening off.  It's cost me a fortune (and now I have a massive car repair bill - today!).    I don't know if she had a painful injury or just emotional pain, but opioids help both - dramatically.  Same thing happend to Amanda Peterson, though she was 43.
