Worst case is a torn pectoral. That is what kept CJGJ out most of the season. Not sure he would need his upper body supported if he got the wind knocked out of him. Could also be a fracture of some sort.

I read it was after a hit; I wouldn't think a hit would tear a pec, more likely a tackle where it gets stretched, but who knows.

Anzalone is worthy of a new contract, but given all the young players the Lions signed and still need to sign, I think he is one of those players you have to let walk that you would like to keep. He's the wrong side of 30 and the Lions have some young LB who can take over.

The more critical injury "bet" right now is to keep Davenport healthy all or at least 90+ % of the year...

I wonder if Levi just walks away from football? At best he will probably only get a vet minimum contract next year.

I would have no problem giving him that vet minimum deal next year, and I would expect that we do. He was very productive when he was on the field. Doesn’t hurt anything to roll the dice as a depth piece. Just not for even $4MM this time around.

Time to get Suh out of retirement...

When's the last time Suh took an actual snap in the NFL? I still want to bring back Za'Darius and I wouldn't be against giving Matthew Judon a look either.

Scuse my language. But someone needs to tell this pussy to put his pads on and play like a man. Dude signed a contract, gave his word that he'd play for a specified time for the amount of money HE AGREED UPON! He needs to play his contract out then go after a new one. Lions should sue him for being an ahole. I get that this is what happens. But if a dude signs a contract, he should know wtf the definition of a contract is. Man up Ahole Anzalone.

Actually, Campbell said Anzalone is dealing with a hamstring injury and will be practicing once cleared.

Does that mean teams can no longer cut players for underperforming?

If this were any league other than the NFL, I'd agree with you, but so long as teams can cancel a contract for under-performance, I'm far more open to players who over-perform their deals to hold out for more.

I agree with you for any sport where a contract is guaranteed for the player as well as for the team. If a team can't cut a player for under performance and not pay him, then a player should live up to his deal even if he over performs. But in the NFL, where teams can and do cut players all the time before they aren't living up to their contracts I have no real problem with a player trying to "cut" his team when he over performs.

The extra game will allow the backups to get plenty of tape. I think Hooker may get moved if he looks serviceable this preseason.

That doesn't make sense when a team is Championship caliber.

MUST have competent backup QB or two because injuries happen. And we don't want our season derailed by a Goff injury and subpar backup QB play.

Now... that being said... if Allen shines brightly and some team makes a stupid offer for Hooker... maybe...

But I still think that won't make sense until after the season plays out.

Isn't Allen a FA after this year? He might be the one that gets traded...

If you have two QBs go down, it’s just not meant to be, and anyone you put out there is meant to hand the ball off. I seriously doubt they would roster three QBs heading into the season.

Allen provides next to no trade value, even if he performs well. We found him on the trash pile heap of washed up NFL QBs, of which there will always be a steady supply. Could he garner a conditional 7th? Maybe. But who cares at that point, it’s effectively a preferred release.

OTOH, if they’re comfortable rolling with Allen as QB2, Hooker may garner some more serious trade interest. He would have been a 1st round pick were it not for the injury, and he’s now got two years NFL tutelage under his belt. If you can get a 3rd or 4th round pick for that, you have to seriously consider doing it, before he walks in 2027 for nothing.

Hooker is never going to be the QB1 here. Why save him for a day that will hopefully never come, if (and only if) you have another capable option you trust to lead the ship if Goff goes down?
